But but taxpayer funded safe havens for perverts! At least have some offshore billionaire covering up your sleaze, not the British public

I don't get people who buy porn. An ex used to do design and make up for some very soft porn. One of the models has actually appeared on a C4 doc. People who buy it aren't paying for "porn" as such - they're paying for someone to create something for THEM. Some of the best paid ones are much softer and appeal to middle aged blokes with the cash; old school spanking with school canes, feet/ stockings, etc. But it's the fact that someone accepted their kink and made something to suit it. Artisanal porn. For the first half of this post, I thought you were referring to commissioning porn. “The pope and a lady ninja. Don’t ask questions.”

The Sun is just channeling old fashioned homophobia isn't like? The pre 1990s version that liked to conflate being gay with being a paedophile.

Don’t ask questions.” One of the ones I just couldn't get my head around was a video where a woman in jeans and high heels couldn't get her car to start and was late for a meeting. She had to really ham up the worry and concern. I don't think it went much further.

That’s the general assumption although the gender of the sun’s alleged victims hasn’t been confirmed - a few men who’ve had DMs with him in the past have been posting their chat history on twitter Plus occasionally some of the small Twitter accounts dropped the ball in their observations by referencing "him", like this lady who is... *Googles*... a former "Home Secretary" whatever that is?

Ironically, what we seem to be seeing now is people who were closeted thanks to coming up in an era of rampant homophobia getting outed in another era of rampant homophobia.

The circus surrounding this, the witch hunt on Twitter, playing the game of who the BBC Presenter is, naming people who had nothing to do with the story at all, without even knowing whether the "guilty" party had even done anything wrong, it all makes me embarrassed to be a human being.
I am willing to send nudes to a consenting news presenter if it will help to bring down the Sun.

The whole sorry saga is sad as fuck. Everyone has been lapping this up. Social media and the gutter press at its absolute worst. I was a bit surprised how quick the BBC were to throw him under the bus. Not saying they should leap to his defense but not only did they suspend him, his very own work colleagues at BBC News actively went out seeking other potential "victims" willing to make similar accusations, seemingly relishing the chance to stir shit up further and make it a bigger story. Reporting salacious details in their overly formal and morally smug way. An especially harsh response given the way the story broke and the continuing lack of evidence presented. I get that there's a Yewtree/Saville climate of fear around this kind of thing but it seemed like a massive overcorrection to me.

Or Sun columnist Rod Liddle: It’s funny him being somewhat in the limelight again. Anyone lucky enough to watch RTE champions league coverage in the 2000s knows he was a wrong’un

It's all so depressing. At worst, he's a bit of a shitty husband who has led a lie all his life. But even that's desperately sad and he wouldn't be the first or last.

A mate of mine, late 20s, finds this all incredibly salacious. He thinks there's more to come, that he's a paedo, that he has a duty of care to the public.
I've tried explaining that if we apply that to him, we apply it to all public sector workers but it's not going in. Rather surprising.

It's different nowadays, I remember in school in early 2000's anything you didn't like was classified as being "gay" so there's some progress. But instead, the focus is now shifted towards transgender people are now pedophiles.

‘Trans people are pedos’ is the successful gateway back into ‘The entire lgbtq community are pedos’. It’s why the right drove it so hard and here we are.

I've tried explaining that if we apply that to him, we apply it to all public sector workers but it's not going in. Rather surprising. The depressing thing for me is that it doesn't feel that surprising. I feel like most people aren't that bothered about the details, consequences or harm this kind of gossip creates, because there's no personal cost to them dissembling whatever they feel like to make it more 'interesting'. I'm not even convinced the more legit reasons for worrying about such things (as paper thin and pre-emptive as they are in this case) are even really at the forefront of the minds of the public. Its just something fun to talk about for a couple of days until the next bit of carrion is thrown their way.

Yup, and the general public are not cottoning on to why the Murdoch run press have led the conversation this way. I am sure they couldn't give 2 fucks about Huw Edwards or the other party, it was too good an opportunity to put the boot into the BBC.

It’s the small businesses that sell pictures to BBC presenters for crack that I feel sorry for. They’ll all be vape shops by next week.

I wouldnt go that far. Start with the billionaire class and work your way down. I reckon we would only have to cull about 2000 people to make real, effective change.

It’s in all of us, to an extent, social glue. But, boy, some have been disgusting. If you’ve never had the (dis)pleasure of the tattle.life forum, you’re missing nothing- some people weren’t sleeping and up at 5 a.m. to continue the fishwifing.

I was talking to my mum yesterday, who had been talking to my sister (who is so far down the right wing online rabbit hole there's absolutely no coming back) about the whole thing. She was trying to convince my mum to stop paying her TV licence (predictably, she's a 'defund the BBC' nutter).
I did try to explain that the whole movement is just an attempt to justify the Tories selling off chunks to the likes of News Corp, Legatum and US media, but it honestly doesn't even seem to even register. The 'scandal' is all that matters.
It's really easy for these bastards to find an emotional anchor point to sway people into what amounts to rejecting their own best interests (also see: Brexit).
