Seinfeld’s observational style is obviously a trope now (‘what’s the deal with…’ etc) but that’s just about what’s in fashion. He’s unbelievably slick and he knows his craft so damn well. He’s one of the greatest of all time for good reason. He also manages to be funny without being mean which is a rarity. It’s telling that everyone else in that group has had various punching down problems.

Seinfeld’s observational style is like the stand up equivalent of when someone wants to draw a wrestler character in anything they go straight for Hulk Hogan. Its the standard and trope but only because he was so big he made it that way.
Style-wise Mcintyre is maybe closer but I’d say our Seinfeld is Billy Connolly. Every storytelling comedian of the last 40 years is basically doing Connolly.

I'm not familiar with Seinfeld's stand-up work, apart from the bits they used as intros for the sitcom, but I like the guy anyway.
I *love* the show, and always appreciated that it wasn't the vanity project it so easily could've been.

Pretty sure Seinfeld and Gervais are kind of friends. I like Jerry. Sure, he's the Michael McIntyre of the day, but I think no one was doing that kind of thing back then. At least nowhere near as polished or confidently as Seinfeld. AN ACCEPTABLE ANSWER 😄 Jason Alexander was 75% of the comedy in that show. I genuinely think a teeeny bit less of people if they say they’re not fans of the show, but Larry David’s particular style completely hits the spot for me.

Hey I said I thought the surrounding cast were better than Seinfeld. What is this, the Jerry Seinfeld Appreciation Forum?!

Is it ok to say Kramer was the least funny one?

Is it ok to say Kramer was the least funny one? He was however the most racist one.

That can’t be true because Julia Luis-Dreyfus is at least 60% of the comedy. She remains by far the best female character in any American sitcom with the possible exception of her also in Veep. Hugely under-appreciated when it comes to these discussions.

Yeah, I always found Kramer annoying. George and Elaine definitely made the show, but I liked Jerry too. Kramer just being the weirdo neighbor just felt like a sitcom trope, though they gave him much more attention than a show like that normally would. But yeah, that show is the GOAT.

Kramer is obviously the broadest of the bunch but it wouldn’t quite work without him.
It’s interesting when you watch outtakes/bloopers and he’s by far the most serious of the four. Never breaks, gets annoyed at the others constantly breaking etc.
Jerry Stiller is my favourite of all. That man is just so fucking funny. He could literally do or say anything and it’s funny. I don’t know how they ever got through his scenes.

For me, the show would've been significantly weaker if any of the core foursome were removed or recast - yeah, Kramer could definitely have been annoying if they'd leaned on him too heavily, as sitcoms often do with breakout characters, but I don't think they ever fell into that trap.
That said, George Costanza is my spirit animal.
Such an amazing secondary cast, too, especially Jerry Stiller and Estelle Harris. *Perfect* casting.

Didn't Seinfeld date a teenager when he was like in his late 30s?
There you go, back on topic.

Hanging out in the park to meet children?
Short of having puppies and a van that said "free sweets" on the side, it's almost cliche

Yeah. That one gets brushed aside a fair bit. I think because she turned 18 so soon after people let it slide

I think I remember Andrew Tates' brother being a bell-end on Shipwrecked on Channel 4 years ago. Ha, when Andrew Tate started to seep into the mainstream a year or so ago I saw his picture and it was doing my head in who he reminded me of. Then I heard him talk, straight away I thought it's that nob head off shipwrecked. Turns out he was his brother
