There is a guardian (Petridis) review of Beautiful Future which nailed all of my 'maybe they are just a bit shit?' feelings towards them at the time. A band youre supposed to like but feel a bit guilty that you only like the singles.

That statement was a hard read. I've no doubt there is truth there but like anything, we have one side of a story here, and not even a first hand account at that. I do still believe BG is a massive cunt mind you and if it all played out exactly as stated there then that is horrendous, but there would surely be contracts and legalities involved in the share of profits from recordings etc and it's never as straight forward as two in the band just suddenly refusing profits to another founding member. Either way I've never been a fan of PS and Gillespie is a cockend either way.

Whilst it's seedy as fuck, it seems that on both occasions noted where consent wasn't granted Lindemann accepted it. It says he reached angrily which is concerning but it also sounds like he didn't force the issue.
So I dunno, whilst there are concerns here, without more detail it seems a bit early to get the pitchforks.
I'm not saying it's all fine and dandy, but based on what I've read it's not the worst thing I've heard about with bands.

The whole situation is just tawdry and nasty regardless of anything illegal. Even if there was no spiking and nothing done without consent, it’s still all pretty fucking dirty. It’s still an abuse of power and position to have impressionable young women sleeping with you.

That is a concern, but who was spiking the drink and whether that was done with Lindemann's knowledge are both good questions that haven't been answered.
It's not even totally clear if there has been drink spiking, and in the recent case the woman took a urine drug test which came back negative. Not sure how good those tests are - it was pharmacy bought so maybe not the most reliable - but I'm waiting for more concrete information before condemning anyone.

Again though, regardless of the alleged spiking, the whole thing is manky. This row zero thing. Young girls getting essentially messaged and cast to be right there down the front to be letched over and go to the pre and after parties where there would be a ready supply of drink (and lets be honest, it's fairly obvious why there is a ready supply of drink for them). In all fairness, I'm quite happy condemning someone over that, because it stinks. Who directly is at fault at the moment is up in the air, and I'd rather not have Lindemann as the architect behind it, I've followed this band since my teens, but he's involved in some capacity, which is unpleasant to consider.

It probably shouldn't be seen as totally fine in this day and age but I suspect it's pretty common, but they're hardly the first or only band to act in such a way and on the scale of nastiness I've heard rumours and stories of much worse behaviour. The Warped Tour, for example. All of which is to say, I don't support this behaviour but if we're going to condemn one band there wouldn't be many bands left to like. |

Band members and old friends or not, I think it's a bit unreasonable to absolutely assume they should be paying for him beyond any contractual obligations, with the detail we have. We have little or no idea what has gone on in all this time, people can fall out very very badly, particularly where money booze drugs or fame is involved (not saying they are all the case here on any side necessarily, just we don't know, and they are pop stars), who knows where the fault lies, if any. Can definitely say that the financial burden of caring for someone with any sort of mental / dependency issues that mean they can't support themselves, even short term, can quickly become far more than expected, even for popstars. [Personal PS angle - one summer 30odd years ago of shouting along to Loaded, couldn't have named the members for a bet. The whole fucking point of that summer and the ones around it were that it didn't matter who made the music, just that it kept playing. Still finding out now in a lot of cases] |
