Thats obviously not the point. This trial is being used as a stick to hit the entire movement with.

That’s great and all but you appreciate that nuance is being taken dramatically out of context and weaponized here, right? Regardless of whether you’re Team Depp or whatever, the case is being seen in many circles that have money, power, and influence, as a direct referendum on MeToo as a whole, not just this individual case in context.
No matter what side you’re on, there’s no winners here.

I mean if nothing else, all the media attention this case has got has highlighted what a circus the justice system can be. It's not about credible evidence or facts, it's about discrediting your opponent, smearing their reputation, highlighting what a prick they are and hoping this leads a jury to making an emotional choice rather than an objective one. Exactly this. I've had my fair share of Amber's, from gaslighting and cheating to physical abuse and stalking. A male friend of mine recently had the police involved due to his mentally and physically abusive girlfriend, who eventually stopped him leaving the house. But none of the above would excuse abusing the woman in question. We didn't write abuse on walls or mirrors, we didn't even go trashing the house in a drunken and drug fueled rage, which personally I feel is a form of intimidation and abuse in itself. The focus seems to be how awful Amber Heard is.. How she lies, how she too takes drugs, allegedly has a personality disorder and even prostitutes herself out Elon Musk. She might well do and be all those things and might have been a cause or trigger for Depp. That doesn't make any form of abuse from him any less wrong. Just feels dangerously close to justification from all sides. I've been in an abusive relationship too, mate. Gaslighting, punching etc. It's horrible. The worst bit for me was if I ever reacted, which narcissistic people love to provoke, they live for it, and they will never ever let you forget it. If you shout in frustration they make you feel like you've lost it, and that you're the one who's escalated things, and make you feel endless shame and guilt about it. Reacting and shouting, I can totally see it being abuse. But if it's in response to abuse, I can't quite go along with that notion. Obviously if it escalates to outright physical abuse, but so often there's cases of women who've hit their husbands because they couldn't take their abuse any more. I more often than not had to leave the house, like how Depp says he does in the audio recordings, but even that was me abusing them apparently. I believed it for a while until I got help.

No matter what side you’re on, there’s no winners here. On the contrary I've seen a crazy amount of support mostly from women who describe themselves as feminists. Unless they're all alt-right men using puppets who will eventually unmask themselves in some planned coup, I've found the misogynistic view to be in the minority. But then I'm not going on twitter where it might be different.

Perhaps it's worth noting that you might not be the most objective observer of this? However, just because you see your own situation or some similarities thereof, mirrored in this, it still doesn't absolve either party, or make what was said in an opinion piece defamation, nor does it justify the circus (which, as noted, can be seen in and of itself to be a perpetuation of abuse) and the behaviour of some of the people desperate to see a clown car crash. The fact remains that this trial is widely seen as damaging to people who are actual victims of abuse, which should be concerning to anyone who considers that they are or were that.
I suspect that whatever the result of this case, it will be appealled and that neither of them will ever see the damages they're seeking. He won't get the massive Disney roles any more, she might not get some of the roles she might have, but both of them will continue to work; the lawyers will rub their hands together and the odd folks on either side who are cheering their protagonist on like a team sport will claim victory and see their positions as vindicated.

I don’t think it even matters what the verdict is at this point.

Indeed the respective 'tribes' made their own verdicts from day one. The only winners here are the lawyers with their paychecks.

Are they going to award them the same amount of money?

Is it always this boring? What’s going to be even more boring is that there’ll inevitably be an appeal regardless and then we could have the whole thing start over again as there’s a chance the VA Supreme Court could throw it out saying it shouldn’t have been filed in VA in the first place. From both a legal and a cultural viewpoint this is a bag of shit for everyone concerned.

Well, there we go. Found in Depp's favour, unanimously. I'm not surprised as I just didn't find her credible at all at any point (and I watched more of the court case than I'd care to admit - and not just selective edits on social media) and it was quite fascinating that there appeared to be no witnesses whatsoever to all the claims she made. The one that stands out in my mind is her saying Depp launched a kick at her back in front of a bunch of people on a plane ("in my BACK!" followed by peculiar grimace) yet there doesn't seem to be anyone that can validate the claim. Same for a bunch of other accusation.
I know that's anathema to some people, that you just HAVE to believe someone that claims to be a victim of abuse. Well, no, you should take claims as seriously as is reasonable to do so given all the other information that's available opposing those claims and be mindful that some pricks do make stuff up, unfortunately.

I have to say, I do judge people for becoming invested in this but lord have mercy on anyone outside the court chanting ‘Johnny! Johnny!’ at someone who isn’t even in the same fucking country.

I though he was awarded 15 million but has to give her 2 so 13 for him. Not really surprised it went that way, I mean when you present your own evidence that makes you look like a psycho you've definitely screwed up.

15m to Depp, 2m to Heard. Although they didn't tell the jury punitive damages max out at 350,000, so Depp's actually awarded 10,350,000. The jury wanted to punish Heard with 5m punitive, which is quite a statement.
Interesting result.
But what do they know? Eh?
