Oh christ I remember the weightlifter one. Thought I had blocked it out.
Yeah I tried to avoid all that stuff too but unfortunately still saw some of it (like Budd Dwyer shooting himself). Really wish I'd avoided it all altogether though, and never understood the ghouls who got off on sharing it and making light of it all.

I remember working with a referee who was mentored by David Ellery, we built a fake email address for Mr Ellery and then sent it to my referee friend saying what are your thoughts on new FIFA regulations coming in for the new season with a link that would take him directly to meatspin dot com.
I couldn't keep a straight face as I watched him open his email, it was the perfect reaction. Can't believe the shit we used to get up to.

I spent time on consumption junction dot com and thought I was edgy.
Also all the talk of Nuts and Zoo made me remember liking Bizarre magazine. I genuinely thought I was above those silly lad mags that were just page-3 for a younger generation - but Bizarre was basically Nuts/Zoo for goths. Fortean Times, but with tits every other page. Not a phase I look back on fondly, but it was so normalised, even in the circles that considered themselves less normal.

Urgh, I've just remembered, off the back of someone referencing it back on the EG forum, I accidentally saw more than I wanted to of 'two blokes, one hammer' (or some similar title, I can't remember. I don't want to remember...). Absolutely don't recommend googling it. I only did because I wanted to read about what actually happened (and not see the videos), but then ended up on a spoof Wiki type site which was embedded with animated GIFs of some of the godawful stuff.

Though in the 90s a "friend" did replace the boot up splash screen of my PC with hardcore bestiality porn at a time when I didn't know a thing about BIOS etc. That was fun. |
