Okay mad clown puppet is giving me rage. I have died now 5-6 times to him which is more than the whole rest of the game. Looks like I need to channel my inner sekiro to beat it...

If you haven't already, run past him to activate the stargazer and do it from that side. Much much easier when he's solo and you can surprise him too.

Yep it worked. Went parry mode for the first time in the game and beat it second try (after 6 ish deaths).

Yeah, once you can reliably parry the extending arm he's very easy to get into a stun.

This game is so much better later on. The first few chapters were pretty boring and easy. The last maybe three chapters have been great and it's now much creepier/more atmospheric.

The screams of a later area put me in mind of oolacile. Wonderfully creepy.
Although hit a wall with wanker of illusion. Decided to farm for a bit. Helps that I can buy three full dark moonstone from polly, so I fucked off to get ergo and I’ve now upgraded my puppet ripper from +3 to +5.
Will try illusion twat again later.

There is a cheese for walker of illusion if you can't be arsed. I don't think this has been patched out but it's been a week or more since I did it. When you start it's just standing in the centre of the room. Bait it to come at you e.g. chuck some throwables - it's weak to fire iirc. Run back partially down the ladder and watch it. As it starts to go back to the middle of the room, before it gets there, climb back up and just pelt it with throwables. It will stand still. If you have enough, you may be able to finish it there. If not, you'll certainly deplete most of its health. When taking it on, just keep circling it to remain out of reach of attacks.

I killed her quite easily, second time, because I think I lucked out with the right loadout. I had the fire grindstone and the twin dragon sword and she seems very weak to that dodging to the side attack it does. I was constantly getting behind her for massive damage.

I have a +3 twin dragon sword. I'll maybe try that as well. I just keep getting caught in her attacks.
It's funny that I'm this far into the game and I still don't really feel like I've nailed the combat, or I'm playing it like the devs want me too. Run of the mill mobs go down so easily I don't really need to do anything other than wail on them. The bigger stuff I always struggle. End up just back stepping and doing charge attacks until I bring them to their knees... And lobbing stuff.
It means enemies like this are owning me as I still haven't even gotten to grips with the dodge properly!

Might be worth a cheeky respec. I gave up on being able to parry consistently quite early so took guard regain, damage reduction and health perks and put a decent amount into stamina and carry just so I could block and dodge all the time without getting winded. The 'increase damage after a perfect parry' amulets and perks seem pointless if I keep dying when I try.
Aegis is also pretty good to just hide behind. Its like a second health bar in a clutch situation.

Do you know what, I have Aegis unlocked and levelled a bit as well. Not even tried it yet.
Yeah what I also did when farming was put on my heaviest frame and defense stuff. I've been putting a fair amount into capacity anyway so I'm still at 49%.
Right. I'm going to try getting behind her and dodging her attacks, using Aegis for backup, and seeing what extra damage this +5 Puppet Ripper can do.
I'm level 67 at the mo as well, so not sure if I'm under, about right, or over for this part in the game. Can always grind for levels a bit. That's not beyond me.
Not enjoying this area as much as it seems a bit full of one / two shot enemies and big damage sponges. I'll be glad when I'm clear of it.

Think every game like this is gonna have this "issue" of common enemies not really posing much of a threat, at least in late game, where boss characters pose a much greater challenge that it feels like it might take longer than it should. Its like Armored Core, the smaller enemies go down in one bullet almost that you wonder why they're even there. But understandably you need to get the balance right of that feeling of making progress and getting stronger while also posing enough of a challenge to keep you on your toes. Think the game has been OK in that regard, some of the beefier common enemies like the clown puppet and shovel fucker command your respect. And common enemies get buffed up later with the monster growth coming out of them which adds new attacks and has a greater challenge.

Personally I'm finding the weaker mobs TOO weak and the tougher ones TOO tough. I would bring the big bois down a smidge and the weak bois up a smidge. It's more imbalanced in that respect than any other souls-like I've played, and I've played a lot.
That's a minor personal criticism though, and I should add isn't detracting from my experience at all. After a lukewarm start I'm really taken with this game. It's superb.
And look, I have just as many other niggles with pretty much every other one I've played.
What I am stunned at, is how the game looks so fucking sexy yet runs like an absolute dream. There's some witchcraft at play here.

Its only really in the last biome that the game throws consistently beefier enemies. Champion and field boss are pretty common and you start to get a decent fight.

Definitely now I’m at area 9 I’m seeing enemies which are basically smaller versions of bosses more often, and more elites which don’t respawn.
In terms of visuals, I think it isn’t just the art - though the art is very well done - but the game is also unusually well put together and programmed. 60fps on Deck while still looking really good is my favourite part of the game because it just plays so well for a portable game in this genre where scrappy performance is so often the norm.

I'd, also, add that by using a tried and tested game engine such as Unreal 4 (instead of the newer, shinier, but still in development Unreal 5) they managed to realize their vision perfectly without the technical hiccups LotF is demonstrating.

This is also true. LotF has so many irritating graphical issues that I really hope they fix (if they take time out from fucking about with the bosses and weapons long enough). It looks beautiful but in motion on PS5 there are constantly bits of geometry that just... disappear. The frozen area is the worst, with bits of trees popping in and out, a whole wall disappearing and reappearing at one point.
Wheras this... I mean, it's fucking flawless. I've seen nothing in 20 hours.

I think the main way the game could be improved would be by not having an insufferable rage-inducing CUNT of a final boss

Can't wait to meet him. Curious to know if he's worse than Isshin or Radagon / Jelly baby beast.

Just a side note: I've beaten this final boss, I have beaten Malenia, I have beaten Radagon/Elden Beast (twice actually)... I still have not beaten Isshin, that skinny m/f

I gave up on Nameless and just took the chicken out ending. I found it really hard and I’ve was eventually able to do Malenia without a mimic ash (after a silly amount of tries and getting lucky with minimal water fowls)
I will go back thou at some point
