You might be the killer
Its not a bad slasher film, its friday the 13th meets the Mask its not going to be this amazing film but its worth watching if you have nothing else to watch and like that genre of horror (its on tubi which is free) The main cast of Fran Kranz and Alyson Hannigan do a good job with what they have
6/10

Some of Resurrections I quite like but there's so much wrong with it, the third act is just terrible.
It's weird that the best thing to come out of the movie is the Unreal Engine city demo.

It feels like the first half is the movie Wachowski wanted and the second is a begrudging “fine here’s some Matrix but I’m not making the fight a big one”

In A Violent Nature I like it in theory. But it's not that good. The dialogue is really bad and some of the decision making is stupid even for this kind of thing Am I missing something about how the girl is still able to stand up with a hole through her stomach and a broken neck? Starve Acre Better. Enjoyed this one. Setting anything in the north makes it weird and creepy by default. Doesn't really go where you think it is either, which is cool. I did find the rabbit and lack of eyebrows a bit distracting though

I remember so little about Resurrection it’s almost worrying. I think I remember it starting ok and then it falls into a big vat of blah.

Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2021) ***** Aw, man. This is Paddington levels of good-natured adorability. An ingenious mockumentary about a tiny talking shell and his nanna, abandoned in a house that's become an Airbnb. Marcel's good-natured optimism and desire to always do right by others is earnestly handled as he's placed in a series of emotionally challenging situations; despite the inherent silliness of the concept we totally buy Marcel's character. It's all so extraordinarily well done, and like Paddington, Marcel is the sort of character who brings out the best in others. It's a marvel of technique and style and, above all, performance; both the animators who crafted Marcel's every minor tilt and shrug, and Jenny Slate bringing his idiosyncratic voice to life. I adored it. (Sky)

In A Violent Nature - 3/10
See, this is more offensive than Terrifier for me. Both films are very similar - mute killer terrorises a bunch of people exacting grotesque levels of violence. Here we're in the woods rather than suburbia.
Art the Clown at least has some kind of pizzazz. Here we've got reheated Jason Voorhees shot with an arty camera angle and lengthy fixed frame images. Terrifier lingers on the murders, but one scene here in particular involving a woodcutter is far more cruel. It doesn't have the knowing wink to the camera like Terrifier.
The main problems though are that it's really fucking dull and the script is absolutely atrocious, made worse by terrible actors. I see a sequel has been called - 90 minutes felt overly long here, so no idea where they're gunna go next.

I really liked it, it was like Friday the 13th as directed by Terrence Malick. Or a nature documentary.

Should've got Attenborough to narrate it. Would've helped enormously.

Second viewing of Wild Robot, as the kids thought mummy and granny should also see.
Definitely a classic. Love the art style, the music does a lot of the work actually, the comedy is laugh out loud but still subtle.
The big bang end / violence is perhaps a bit over done, and probably ups the minimum viewer age.

MADS - 6.5/10
A Shudder low budget French horror/thriller that tries and mostly succeeds at getting the story across in a single take style. Starts off with a young lad stopping off at his dealer's place for a few party treats and trying out a new drug, then just escalates in fairly unexpected ways.

Voyagers 5/10. The whole story was ridiculous and stupid and they even had to show the eventual arrival of the ship But there was some decent acting and some tension from time to time.
But yeah, it's basically just Lord of the Flies in space

Yin Yang Master Zero: Japanese wizards flap about trying to solve the murder of another wizard. Looks good, actually shot really nicely but it really didn’t need to be two hours and the arse is dragged out of the admittedly expensive looking royal court scenes.
Still, worth a watch if you like that kind of thing/didn’t get enough of killing funny hat magicians in Nioh.
6/10

Rebel ridge - 6/10 (maybe a 7)
A bit like first blood with some current day social commentary. Well acted and shot, but it really needed some proper retribution for the bad guys (like first blood). It just frustrated me more and more when I realised he wasn’t going to really hurt anybody.

The big bang end / violence is perhaps a bit over done, and probably ups the minimum viewer age. The storm at the start was enough to scare one girl and her family out of our screening. The constant onion chopping from about half-way through was the bigger distraction for most people from what I could tell.

About Time (Netflix) As it’s about to leave Netflix I thought I’d watch it again. I remember liking it when it came out but I really liked it this time, was a lot more poignant now I’m a nearly 50 (in two days). Great performances from a great cast, thought Uncle Desmond stole the show and good writing and locations too. Miles better than Love Actually

Drive (Amazon Prime) Another rewatch but one of my favourite movies. Again great cast, great performances, great locations. Killer soundtrack. Miles better than The Fast and the Furious

Oddity
A very simple horror movie with a small cast and a lean, refreshingly straightforward plot that involves the supernatural but somehow feels quite grounded at the same time. There's no gore here but there is plenty of slowly building tension and it effectively maintains a dark and spooky atmosphere throughout. A few cliches but it makes good use of its limited setting. Just a very competent movie, can recommend.

Joker: Folie A Deux A largely unnecessary film, but still I enjoyed it as an accompaniment to the first film. It solidified my opinion that he was never the joker, and this all played out in his head as a fantasy..] And you could look at it as play on what is happening in the world at the moment, especially with Trump in power, why do we gravitate towards people who do heinous crimes and martyr them? I get that it isn't The Dark Knight. It is a deeply dark and depressing film. Perhaps they leant too much towards the songs.. could have stripped it back a bit, but again that leans more towards what I said about this playing out as a fantasy. I didn't think it took a lot of thinking, to get an idea of what the film was about, or at least have an opinion on what it was about. It being a courtroom drama with a bunch of singing is giving it a complete disservice and I would question whether you actually watched the film properly.

And to all you superhero buffs. I watched The Suicide Squad 2021 fairly recently, which was reviewed far more positively. And I would say that was largely unnecessary and at times quite boring.
I honestly think in 5-10 years time, there will be a re-review of the two Joker films and they will be lauded for what they are. Whereas films like The Suicide Squad, is just another BOOM BOOM BLAST will look rather dated.

The Suicide Squad was relatively made to look like Citizen Kane just by its tangential connection to Suicide Squad., though.

The Suicide Squad was relatively made to look like Citizen Kane just by its tangential connection to Suicide Squad., though. Yeah, I think the reaction to The Suicide Squad was just mild pleasant surprise that it wasn't an absolute crime to the art of moving images. It was still barely middling and no one was really talking about it after a few weeks. Whether you like them or not, both Joker films are massively more interesting than The Suicide Squad. I was pretty down on Folie a Deux, but warmed to it more as time passed. I still don't think it was a good film and I would rather the first film was just a one and done affair, but it had some merit.

Yeah, I think they will look back more favourably at the Scorsese films the first one rips from and better musicals, and say why did we need these at all.
But then, I liked The Suicide Squad, and even thought Birds of Prey was fun.
Edit: In saying that I thought Phoenix was immense in Joker.

I would like for there to be no more Joker movies (or movies with Joker in them) made by anyone for the next 5 years. Just... enough already. Make things about other Batman villains, give me a Calendar Man movie. Or Hush or something.
