Yeah there was a lot of hype and raving about scream 2 at release. It really was just riding the wave of the first one. It came less than a year after it, so people were still pumped. It could take a year for a film to go from cinema to home video in those days. Away from all that hype tho: meh. Not as impressive as how quickly they managed to throw together Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles II: The Secret of the Ooze.

Twisters in a cinema, not a 4DX one unfortunately.
It's Jaws if tornadoes were a big shark but this isn't sharknado. Been a long time since I saw the original film but I'm pretty sure this is better. Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell are pretty good but the destruction is the real star of the film, things get smashed without any sign of a kaiju. One part of the film was clearly inspired by a rather famous photo from the aftermath of a real tornado too.
Enjoyable nonsense and certainly something to see on a big screen.
To save anyone Googling afterwards, there's five oil refineries in Oklahoma, that doesn't seem that wise.

Just booked tickets for that for Friday with the kids. They've ever actually watched a disaster movie before, and I figured this would be a fun and noisy flick for a family Friday off! Glad you had fun with it.

Two polar opposite films for me in last few days...
Appropriate Behaviour - 7/10
Bisexual Iranian-born New Yorker breaks up with her girlfriend and has a bit of a meltdown. Felt a bit like an extended episode of Girls. Quite funny in places though.
A Quiet Place: Day One - 5/10
I really like the franchise, but thought this was deeply mediocre. It doesn't flesh out the lore like prequels often do, which is fine, but then the entire setup is much worse than the original films. The action is pretty bad. The set pieces are frequently over too quickly, so no tension builds, and often shot with deliberately tight camera angles to hide the horror off screen. It felt quite cheap to me, despite some decent effects. There's also a really irritating amount of time given to a cat (and I am a _deeply_ crazy cat person) and I also found the protagonist's major illness a distraction more than an effective emotional device, which I think was the point there.
First time I've watched a film in the evening in a mainstream chain cinema for a while. You get what you pay for. In this instance, half the cinema eating loudly; a cunt who walked in 45 minutes into the film, sat down, walked out 1 minute later; doors left open so you can hear a vacuum in the corridor; and another pair of cunts who came in 30 mins into the film talking constantly and seemingly brought a picnic in or something judging by the rustling. Gahhh.

A Quiet Place: Day One
Heartwarming tale of a young cat trying to navigate his way through an apocalyptic world. Occasionally aliens.
Emotional support kitten/10

Predestination
Time travel shenanigans, but a decent take. I think I'd seen this before, but I kind of guessed a few twists, but it has - and the name of the film makes this explicit so it's hardly a spoiler - one of those predestination paradoxes that is kinda neat but also makes no real sense if you pick it apart.
Time travel films are inherently dumb but this dresses things up in a slightly more interesting way.
8/10

Tomo that sounds standard cinema etiquette to me these days! Although admittedly that's midday showings of kids' films during school holidays...had many a cinema picnic when they were young, killed two birds!

*somebody* i don't know who because i can't find the thread now, but anyway ONE OF YOU recommended The Highwaymen on.... netflix? or prime? one of those. it's woody thingy who used to be in cheers and kevin costner who used to be in dances with wolves. dances with wolves was so long that kevin costner is actually still in dances with wolves. anyway, The Highwaymen. catching of bonnie & clyde dramatisation that's good. woody & kev are really very good. it could do with ~20 minutes being cut from the running time but i have the attention span of an eight year old after downing a liter of sunny D so i may not be representative. it's not as long as dances with wolves.
it's good. watch. hire me to write film reviews

When I was a kid I thought Highwaymen were super cool. But now they've become a bit of a joke. It is a shame.

Why is Daredevil and Wolverine coming out in the middle of the week???

Don't think Thursday (for the UK) is middle of the week, comes out Friday in the US.
Deadpool & Wolverine - in a cinema, obviously.
0:05 Thursday counted for that UK release date and that's where I'm just back from, no spoilers here but I very, very much enjoyed it. Plenty of surprises and not just from the cameos. I will never not be able to hear NYSNC's "Bye Bye Bye" without thinking of this movie. I meant it when I said I wouldn't post spoilers. Completely unrelated to the film but the roads are really quiet at 03:00 and yet some stupid moggie decided to run into the road in front of me when there was only about two cars on the road within 200 metres. I braked hard, not enough to kick in the ABS apparently, cat jumped back on the pavement, phew. Fuck knows if it stupidly tried to cross straight after, that other car I mentioned was about 100 metres behind me so may have run out of lives in the end but I was long gone. Damn this non-spoiler section is rather long!

Been catching up with the relevant films for DP & Wolverine recently, so glad to hear it has been worth the effort (and with some of those films, it has been an effort). Gone through the original X-Men trilogy, Origins and the first two Deadpool films. Just have Logan to definitely watch and maybe The Wolverine, if I can be bothered.

Deadpool & Wolverine
Just got back from seeing and glad I missed all the spoilers twats are posting on YT and other places as it was great to see the story and characters for myself. tbh they messed up putting a character in the "final" trailer as it would of worked better without spoiling it for the viewer
Really enjoyed it, DP2 didn't quite work for me and was not as good on 2nd viewing but lots of references, making fun out of marvel and others. It didn't feel like it was bring back Logan for member berries. Hard to talk about the film without spoilers and I know some will click on them and ruin the film for themself.
9/10

For those who have seen D&W - how much does it benefit from a recent rewatch of DP1&2 and/or X-Men. I've seen them all but not for a while.
Or is there a good YouTube recap that doesn't spoil anything in the new one? (I've only watched the original trailer, avoided the more recent ones)

I watched both DPs in the last couple of days, I wouldn't say it's in any way essential but why one minor character being told to not say anything would probably be missed if you've not seen DP2 recently.

Can someone change the thread title, I dislike it immensely. Mostly because I can't get hold of a copy of "The Last Film" to rate with my terrible opinions.

Fucking bollocks, as the Redditor points out with the new bowling alley opening up right next door it seemed like that would help it.
Well my cinema viewing is going to plummet now, there's a Vue in Farnborough (so it's not too expensive) but unless I park a long distance away that'll make it a lot more expensive. I certainly wouldn't be walking to it like the Aldershot one.

Dante 01 (2008):
It takes place on a space station. It's kind of a small prison meant for medical experimentation on the inmates and one day some unknown confused new prisoner arrives. As it turns out he is some kind of miracle healer and there isn't much there aside from that.
The atmosphere and some of the special effects are good and the acting is decent as well (not that I'm much of a judge of that). But the story is basically just a bit of station and prisoner "politicking" plus a Deus Ex Machina reviving whoever is killed. It made it feel like nothing had any impact and there is also no real pay-off or explanation for his special abilities. It also really hurt the suspense, the mystery that they basically all immediately accept him as something special and barely question his healing/reviving/Virus-sucking abilities and the movie asks absolutely no interesting questions about any of it.
6/10

Now they finally made a worthy 80s action film.

Deadpool & wolverine
Fucking brilliant. So funny all the way through and pretty epic in places. Far better than I was expecting. They really pulled it off.
If you dislike deadpool 1&2 this won’t convert you.

What didn’t you like about 2?
I preferred 1 but thought 2 was also excellent.
I spent 2 hours with a stupid grin on my face last night and the packed cinema was lol all the way through. The action is great but it’s more focused on the comedy and characters. Hugh is excellent as Logan and they bounce off each other so well.
Feel good movie vibe to it as well as I left the theatre feeling happy and my partner who never wants to re watch movies said we should go and watch it again next week.
I’ve seen some average reviews but they seem to be from old boring people who were expecting Shakespeare.

Yeah, noticed that it had quite a low score on metacritic so skimmed a couple of reviews. You have to wonder if these people watched the previous two films.
Puerile? Yeah, no shit, Sherlock.
