raeHave you watched it since that first time at the cinema? Would be interesting to see if your thoughts on Sicario are the same on a rewatch. Amazing film.

For new TV owners - how about Tom Hardy Mad Max? Especially with a good sound system...
Top Gun 2 would also be epic.

Wasn't he in 2049 for just one scene? Bautista might have had more screentime than him.
Been a while since I've seen it so might be wrong.

Nah, I've not seen it since the cinema. I was on a date that didn't turn out well at the time either so maybe I've done it a disservice.

Sicaro was not what I expected, going in. A rewatch made it make a LOT more sense. Once you realise it's meant to be a bit disorientating, it's, ironically, clearer.
Though I didn't think the traffic jam sequence was as tense as other people did.

Sicario is probably my favourite Villeneuve movie too, I loved every minute of it and have watched it multiple times. I like all his other films, but I have to be in the right mood for them. Apart from Enemy as it just fell apart in the final third and made no sense at all.

The Holdovers 10/10
Caught this with the family after seeing Da'Vine Joy Randolph win a BAFTA t’other night. It was superb. It’s about a group of students at a posh American school who stay on campus over the Christmas holiday for reasons. Paul Giamatti plays the despised teacher responsible for them, Da’vine is the cook.
I can’t spoil it, there’s issues for everyone and not much happens in some respects, but there’s seismic shifts in other ways. Very highly recommended and just a lovely film

Poltergeist - 9/10
Watched it with my eldest. It’s still a fantastic movie and she loved it, I always forget the clown scene is at the end as I was waiting all movie for it thinking it was earlier on. Possibly the best jump scare ever. Obviously very dated but it’s got real heart too, I know it’s listed as tobe hooper as director but it couldn’t be anymore Spielberg if it tried.

He juggled that with ET, right? Spielberg was a machine back then. How he did it, I'll never know.
Is there a reason why Hooper gets the credit?

Someone posted a link to it earlier, but Netflix released the film Nimona free on YouTube and it's really good. Definitely recommend. Very pretty animated movie with a lot of heart and a nice twist on the usual messaging. I think it got nominated for an Oscar.
Ps/ thanks to whoever posted it originally. Was just what i needed for being sick in bed today.

Bill in the rain I think it's one of the best animated movies to come out of America in a long while, so I'll add my thumbs up. Apparently Disney killed it when they bought and closed the studio that was making it, so it's a good thing it was revived and seems to have been quite successful.

Ha anyone seen that new Charlie Kaufman animated kids thing on Netflix yet? I lined it up once I realised why Netflix kept pushing it to me but work/life has been getting in the way. Need a day when I’m WFH with no one else around because it looks like the sort of thing my son will hate and I’m not confident enough to watch it solo while we’ve got builders in.

I enjoyed it too, started watching it within five minutes of realising it existed, and I'd never heard of it before reading the article on ComicBook that mentioned they'd made it free. Laughed out loud a couple of times, and the sound/music design was stellar.

Something to do with Spielberg being under contract for ET, so he brought in Hooper as a big named director, who then mostly sat around and watched Spielberg direct it. He had input but not much.

Bodies Bodies Bodies
I really liked this. Comes from a similar place to Bottoms, and is similarly smart, knowing and original while also playing to genre tropes, this time teen one-by-one horror. Very much sticks the landing also. Very good fun.
8.5/10

Blade Runner 2049 (4k Blu-Ray) - 4.5/5
Ok, so it's not Villenueve's worst film, it's really good, obviously. I feel like I have a negative view of it because there's something about it that's not quite right. I believe it's the fact that I hold the original in such high regard, and the ending in particular (directors cut) had the magical combination of ambiguity, hope and sadness, that it will forever be this perfect thing in my mind. This sequel robs me of that a little bit.
The story is good. The visuals, sound and music are phenomenal. The whole experience is jaw dropping at times. The original is beautiful in its own way, but this is spectacular, whilst also feeling true to the world. Kal said this doesn't have the iconic lines of the original, which is true, but it has some seriously iconic shots. Villeneuve doesn't really do talking anyway, but Love has the best lines and her delivery of 'bad doggy' gets me every time. The pacing is kind of fine, but there's just elements of the plot that feel a bit workmanlike, you just have to get through the mechanics so the story can move forward.
One of the wildest sex scenes ever too.
Top tier science fiction, and I love it.

Seriously do not click this if you've not seen it there being no actual threat but their own imaginations was excellent

I really should rewatch 2049. I thought it was excellent when I saw it, and I went in expecting the worst, but as others have said somehow it didn't stick with me like the original and I've never really been bothered to give it a second watch. I should though (perhaps not right away as after next week's Dune IMAX marathon I might be all Villeneuved out).

I thought Bottoms was a bit shit. Watched it because of all the praise on here and Mrs Hermit says she's never trusting your reviews again.
