Isn't that a euphemism for masturbation?

It's a euphemism for sucking off your future self.

Spoilers dude!
PS/ Wouldn't that count as masturbation?

Well going back to the Latin root of the word, it’s “manus”, meaning hand (and “turbo” - meaning wahey!) so no, that doesn’t count.

At least now I have a clearer image of what kind of training Jean Claude does in the bath.

It makes me feel bad. I just eat magnums in the bath.

It made the Heath Robinson discussed elsewhere seem both quaint and primitive.

Anyway, enough with the dodgy self gratification, let's talk about Babes!
One of my son's fave books is The Sheep Pig, and Channel 4 have Babe and Babe 2 on at the moment, so we watched the first one.
It's not bad, although I must admit to getting a little bored in the middle. It's a pretty basic story, and having read the book there weren't any surprises. Cute animals and good performances though. Hadn't realized it had Jim Henson animatronics mixed in with the real animal footage.
It's pretty dark in places, what with the number of references to people eating animals. "Christmas is carnage!" I guess that's what you'd expect when the screenplay is co-written by George Miller.
I think Miller directed the sequel, Pig in the City, and I heard that one goes pretty dark too, what with the Mad Max style gangs of animals. (or something). Not sure if that'll match up to the sheer horror of cooking and eating cute animals though.
Not bad, but more for kids than adults, and a bit hard to get the right age range.

Wonka
Way too many musical numbers, but otherwise very enjoyable. Answers the old question of what if Paddington but replace the bear with a chocolate wizard and make it a musical by Neil Hannon. It’s good, but less than the sum of its parts.

Slacker (youtube)
I haven’t seen this in easily 20 years and I’ve obviously misremembered quite a lot about it. For some reason I thought the vignettes had a vague linked narrative like Clerks has. Each vignette is decent in isolation but every single person being basically the same character does make it drag at times.
Feels like more of a DIY demo/curiosity than fully fledged film but its worth checking out in that regard, or if you just want to sit with a vibe for 90 minutes. The more conventional films it influenced like Clerks, Ghost World or Tangerine might make more sense to a modern audience though.

I love Linklater but I never really liked Slacker that much tbh. Like you say the films it influenced were mostly better. It has its moments and one or two very memorable characters but it’s always been a bit if a slog even when it came out.

All Quiet on the Western Front
Brutal and chilling. The soundtrack accentuates the horrors of war so well.
Love Saving Private Ryan but that had rays of hope and sentimental bits this just skips to show how savage war is.

TMNT: Mutant Mayhem (Paramount+)
Pretty good origin story; the obvious comparison is the Spiderverse films, both in style and tone but I didn't think it was a patch on those. Enjoyable enough but more one for the kids.

Zodiac
Needed something familiar for a sofa day with a bug. Long film worth drifting in and out of.n
Solid B tier Fincher and manages, weirdly, not to feel its length. Probably helps that a good chunk of scenes are barely a minute long.

7 feels pretty low for Zodiac imo. It's in the top tier of Finchers for me.

It’s not my favourite Fincher film but it’s definitely very good.

Blackberry - came for Dennis Reynolds at full throttle for an hour and a half (and that didn't disappoint) but enjoyed everything about it. Serious levels of arrogance if that's truly how it went down.

I love Fincher and that sort of subject matter, but I found it dragged and got a bit bored and frustrated with it. Of course it doesn't help that the story in real life pretty much peters out.

I haven't watched it in a long time, but I really loved Zodiac. I don't really mind that the real case didn't really go anywhere and that the film reflects this. It's kind of the point.

Great film. I didn't know the story at all, just saw the good reviews so went to see it.

Yeah I think the last scene of Zodiac kind of sums it up. It is needlessly long BUT it does benefit from lots of zippy scenes.
However, it's a story that doesn't really suit a film format. Fincher did an admirable job but not a great job.
