Secret spy or assassin is so played out it's getting tedious. Someone should flip it on its head like the person you thought was a really successful cake maker is actually some Wall Street scumbag hedge fund trader and their family is left reeling by this shocking news.

True Lies did it best. Having Bill Paxton as the Not-Spy is a genius move.

That Bill Nighy scene in the bar is excruciating.

And he gets one of the creepiest lines in a mainstream action film "I got a little dick. It's pathetic!" You're right. Very creepy.

For some reason I had the urge to buy Final Fantasy The Spirits Within on 4k, despite me as a young adult panning it upon release. Also out of curiosity as to how it would look in 4K. It's actually a fairly decent sci-fi film. I remember a lot of people saying it has nothing to do with Final Fantasy, but I think it is.. planetary spirit fighting Earth's planetary spirit.. sounds fairly Final Fantasy to me. Worth a good re-watch if you haven't in 20 years or so.

I remember enjoying it at the time. I think people were disappointed because they basically wanted what Advent Children became so couldn’t really accept it being its own thing.
Costing eleventy squillion yen and nearly bankrupting Square probably didn’t help either.

The Marvels (Disney+) 5/10 It’s sorta competent but still a bit shit. I really don’t like the marvel things where people wave their arms around and fire magic things around (much like a lot of the last phase or so), it’s just really boring and looks stupid. I didn’t care what was happening to anyone once, it was mostly one mediocre set piece after another with nothing interesting happening.

If you think it's one of the best sci-fi films ever made, maybe you should watch some other ones.

You should have been able to rewind time so Max never said that ridiculous view on the film.

Like, I understand that she doesn't care what anyone says. But sometimes people are right and you should listen to them. She's 18, her brain isn't fully developed yet.

I watched it in a small movie bar in China when I was backpacking, and slightly drunk, so I have kinda weird memories of it.

The Marvels (disney+)
Fun movie and one of the more entertaining recent MCU products. After the miserable grind of Secret Invasion, the self-importance of Loki and bailing on Echo its nice to watch something that doesn’t feel like homework and has some likeable characters who look like they’re enjoying themselves.
Kamala and family really steal the show. Wonder what people who didn’t watch her tv series thought.
Blue Jay (netflix)
This has been saved on my netflix list for years. Very much the opposite of an MCU film. Its basically a mumblecore movie, just a couple of characters chatting in black and white and reminiscing about their past together. Its really good and exactly the sort of thing I’d have been all over in my sad indie phase (aka my mid-late 20s).

Paprika (at the cinema)
Yeah, so this is what I wanted Inception to be. Absolutely fucking mental. I know Satoshi Kon has been dead for a while now, but watching this on a big screen made me mourn him all over again.
Loses a point for a pretty meh kind of ending. It's like they escalated to a point and didn't really know where to go from there.
9/10

Broken Arrow 7/10
This film couldn't be any more 90s. It ain't highbrow entertainment, but it's still entertaining. Travolta very much steals the show. Christian Slater isn't exactly action hero protagonist material, but he does fine. The dialogue is mostly awful throughout.
