Tbh, id rather just get the vinyl album out, put it on, and just look at the inlay pictures while listening to Richard Burton providing his dulcit tones.
In fact, I'm going to do that to readdress the balance.

Seeing all the press around that Jodie Comer flood film makes me wonder if anyone will ever adapt The Death of Grass. I remember of all the apocalyptic fiction I’ve read the existential crisis of that one was probably the scariest at the time*
* this was maybe 15 years ago when WW3 didn’t seem so likely

FFS, where did you get the vinyl from?? Literally anywhere. It’s one of the most common vinyls there is. You can get in new anywhere and all record shops will have several secondhand copies.

Spy Game
I miss Tony Scott, had a better hit rate than his more famous brother for my money.
This has aged surprisingly well. Great cast, superbly paced, great score by Harry Gregson Williams.
There's an absolutely superb moment near the end when a realisation for a certain character dawns and it hits right in the feels.
7/10
Tonight is either Escape From New York or Christine time. The wife has never seen either. She utterly dissed The Fog last time we sat down to watch a Carpenter film so a domestic could be on the cards.

Resident Evil The Final Chapter
Horrendous again, obviously. I’m not sure its worse than the last two but its terrible in new ways that the other films haven’t been.
Out is the early 00s music video sheen and Snyder grade uses of slow motion, in is a Walking Dead all brown colour palette and every action scene having a hundreds of incomprehensible jump cuts.
They also tear up whatever flimsy lore the series had to finally create a reason as to why anything that happened from Extinction onwards happened. Its a stupid reason and the way everyone acts is very dumb. I’d go into it all but Angry Joe does a much more comprehensive job over on youtube.
After watching I’ve done my usual dive into IMDB trivia and discovered that a crew member was killed onset by one of the Hummers in the film. Then in a separate accident a stuntwoman broke her back in five places, lost an arm and suffered a de-gloved face. They paid her off with $33k but she later sued them and rightly won fuckloads more.
In conclusion fuck Paul WS Anderson, even if he did make Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon.

simple - I read Death of Grass a few years ago and agree it was terrifying and has aged very well. I want to see the End we Start from, looks right up my street.

From what I remember, the CGI Resi films fare a bit better
Event Horizon is very good

Alright Simple, your mission is almost at its end. You must now watch Welcome to Racoon City and tell us if it is in fact an improvement. You have achieved the title of Gerbil King. Now go, for the great sphincter is about to close…

Psyche!
I watched Welcome to Racoon City first.
Its really like a high end fan production and makes some bizarre decisions along the way but its probably my favourite live action Resi film.
The CGI ones are largely ok but all but one film in the CGI continuity are direct sequels to RE6 with all its cartoony nonsense intact. The one that isn’t was realised between 5 and 6 if I remember correctly.
If you want to relive my week its four of Anderson’s films plus WTRC are on Netflix and the second and fourth of the six Anderson films are on Prime.
The Netflix tv series is a standalone continuity that is also mostly bad and features a dance sequence. Although Lance Reddick has a lot of fun being Wesker.

I actually quite enjoyed WtRC too. Some bits were almost actually good.
But the PW Anderson films are the ones that seem to win out with the guilty pleasure crowd. Which is a shame because they all are very shit.

I can understand the first one having an audience and the second one maybe being a so-bad-its-funny but after that its just a wave of shit.
Its crazy that 4 and 6 are the highest grossing and the whole series made over a billion dollars at the box office. I don’t really get how the audience didn’t completely collapse after the first few.

I actually have a soft spot for Apocalypse. It's short, paced like a rocket and even though it's objectively shite it has an everything *and* the kitchen sink approach that makes it immediately more entertaining than the others.

I know the outbreak story, mansion and Racoon City is what the series is known for but I wonder what the case would be for just going nuts and doing a standalone RE4 inspired movie or anime in the style of Netflix Castlevania.
Or go the other way, strip it right down and do an RE7 one.

The kitchen on netflix..
I love Kano, I love top boy.
This was like a boring episode spin off that I should have turned off half way.

Off piste a bit but the final season of Top Boy was appallingly shite.

I still need to watch that. Keep putting it off every time someone mentions that it's shit.
The previous season felt like an ending of sorts, so I might just leave it at that and keep my memory of an almost perfect show.

It's far far from shit. It's pretty excellent, just not as good as the other series. I'm pretty sure before I watched it the few reviews I read were all glowing and sending it was an excellent finale.

Ford vs Ferrari (Disney+) - 3.5/5
Pretty great! Helped massively by having two incredibly likeable leads and absolutely stunning race sequences, they are beautiful. I didn't like how it ended, but that's life.

Nonsensical and rushed and a terrible disservice to the characters and world that was so carefully curated over the previous years of the show. I wish I had never seen that last season.

I thought the last season of Top Boy was great, yeah its not as good as the previous seasons, but they set the bar so high that even it's worse season is better than most stuff on TV.

In conclusion fuck Paul WS Anderson, even if he did make Mortal Kombat and Event Horizon. I maintain that Resident Evil is a good movie. Just not a good Resident Evil movie as it has next to nothing to do with the source material. VHS 85 Another fairly rubbish entry into the series. A couple stories that were decent, one where a group were getting taken out on lake was gory and good effects, but overall not that good. 5/10 Possessor Decent, but could have been better I think. Obviously it is a bit strange as it is Brandon Cronenberg, but a bit half baked over I thought. Could have done with a bit longer run time. Strange future hitman stuff is certainly interesting. Think I prefered Infinity Pool though. Some very gory parts and some graphic nudity. 6.5/10

Top Boy felt a lot like someone had seen Gomorrah and gone “let’s do that but in London”. The final season of both were similarly flawed (and plotted).
