I really don't think he's presented as a criminal mastermind as much as an opportunist with zero moral compass. But for me it's clear his primary motivation is his infatuation with Felix, but once he's gone he's happy to just take the life he used to have. Say what you like about it but I can't remember the last time a film has generated so much water cooler discussion.

It's heavily implied everything has gone to plan from the very start.

Yeah, the montage at the end debunks that theory.
The more I think about it the more I like it, but it's very flawed.

I'm probably the only person who hated the 4:3 aspect ratio. I can't understand why somebody would try and make a film look like a 1990s TV show... You understand the basic principle of different shape frames allowing different approaches to composition right?

Mmmm, I don't know if it does. He's not planning on taking over the castle when he's pretending to be broke in a pub or puncturing tires. He takes the opportunties that are granted to him as they appear. Edit: Not to say there isn't premeditation. There's a lot of it. But the motivation changes as the film progresses.

Sorry when you said you couldn’t understand why someone would use a different aspect ratio, I took that as you not understanding why someone would use a different aspect ratio.

It works in saltburn and doesn't in the justice league for that reason, I think. It made saltburn visually interesting but it just felt like it had happened by accident in the justice league and was kind of pointless.

I was complaining that the choice of aspect ratio was terrible. Still not sure if you are being sarcastic again though…

I spent a lot of time watching it thinking that scene or shot would have benefitted massively in 16:9. Each to their own though 👍

I suppose it is one of those things that may or may not click with the viewer, so it is ultimately a risk. It gives you more room in different spaces and allows you to concentrate the scene more which I think was to its benefit. Whereas we just got a lot of sky in Justice League.

Given your entire cultivated persona is that of edgelording literally everything, that’s a little rich.
But as it goes I genuinely thought you might not understand the point of aspect ratios.

Saltburn was very ‘vertical’. The high ceilings in the manor, the maze walls etc. It was also intentionally done to give the whole thing a bit of a ‘painting’ quality and a lot of the shots were tableau-esque. It was probably the best thing about the film.

Maybe they filmed it in IMAX, since that's basically 4:3.
TBH, I find I don't notice either way after a few minutes, assuming I'm absorbed in the movie.

I'd have thought Clem would be all over a nostalgic ratio given the kick he's on currently.
Fwiw, it seems to me it was almost certainly designed to be that way from the start, and shot accordingly, rather than a gimmicky after thought. I can't criticise the cinematography at all as it was great.

So that's 3 Tit times now or 2 if we pretend your first post was in good faith (which it wasn't). I'm not sure why you have such a problem with me (and half of the rest of the forum too) but lets just leave it now eh.

Rust Creek Girl gets attacked by hillbillys in the Wilderness, and has to survive the forest, with some not that interesting twists. Not a patch on Wolf Creek. Mostly because the hillbillys are more unscary dumb idiots, than crazy sadistic mad man. Was an OK watch though, with nothing inherently bad about it. Just not all that great either. 5.5/10

I'm probably in the minority but I found it gave it more of a made for TV look. Plus I felt all the outside shots in the second half of the film would have benefitted from some nice wide camera work.

I wish more films would change aspect ratio from scene to scene. Keeps you on your toes.

I find it super jarring when it happens in an imax filmed movie like interstellar.

You get the odd film that actually does it for narrative reasons like Boogie Nights or Grand Budapest Hotel, but yeah, the IMAX thing is annoying. I think the home versions of Nolan’s film have all been tweaked to remain consistent in ratio.

For whatever reason Interstellar retains the imax ratios on blu ray. It honestly prevents me from watching it more often, pathetic as that sounds.

I’d need to watch it to check (and I absolutely will not) but I think the spectacularly badly titled Last Train to Christmas starring Michael Sheen played around with aspect ratio as the film unfolded, for reasons which will become clear if you see the film.
It’s a bad, bad film. But there were interesting ideas that belong in a much better film.

I know my Blu Ray of The Dark Knight switched to IMAX ratios for the relevant scenes. I don’t mind it personally but I have watched with friends who hate it.
