I think we can’t be puzzled why Rebel Moon got made when every single one of us watched it. That’s all Netflix care about, time spent on the app and even if its hate watching or bemusement Snyder still earns them millions of hours of views.
And at least two thirds of us will be back for Rebel Moon 2 at Easter when they actually start the main quest after doing all the companion missions in part 1. Who knows, maybe in part 2 some of the party members will get lines and take part in the story. Or at least they might in a director’s cut.

I’m not watching it. I liked Dawn of the Dead, 300 and Watchmen as much as the next person, but beginning with Sucker Punch, it was easy to see he doesn’t have a creative bone in his body. Will gladly save my three hours and do anything but watch this trash.

I would still pay my subscription even when I don’t watch anything on Netflix.

I dunno why you're all watching it. I guess if you're signed up to Netflix then there's no reason not to watch whatever they put in front of you, but you don't have to! The best thing about it is reading all the reviews that complain it's a rip off of A Bug's Life

My trick, is that I try to limit my movie watching to movies that I know have at least the potential to be good or entertaining.

I mean, this is a large part of what reviews are for. You read a review, go "oh no that sounds fucking rubbish" and boom, two precious hours of your life saved.

I know (or knew) him from when he was a rapper. It’s incredibly strange to me that he somehow became a Hollywood actor. It’s so random. Killer cheekbones and a Lahndan accent!

Yes Rebel Moon was bad, it was clearly going to be awful from dirt sniff onwards. But I wasn't disappointed/miserable/incensed when it finished, it didn't distract me from life saving research or completing my thesis.
It filled the time I had allocated for aimless streaming. I'll probably watch the sequel.

It's not about using all your spare hours to cure cancer, it's about using them to do something you are more likely to enjoy than watching a movie you know will be boring and shit.
But hey, it's your life.

Netflix was getting my subs money whether I watched Rebel Moon and hated it as I expected to, criticising something without watching it is for people who complained about Life of Brian back in the seventies so you've got to do your part. Netflix knows I watched it, they also know I thumbed it down as well. I'll possibly have the longer cut on in the background when it shows up too, I doubt I'll put much effort on concentrating it.
Rebel Moon was a car crash movie, you shouldn't look over the motorway divider to see what's happened on the other side but it's pretty difficult to stop yourself.

I usually go by that approach, but I've really gone off some big blockbusters, that rate fairly high. Like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was just OK to me. I thought the first had a better plot. Not sure what it really added, than much more of the same.

IMDB can be helpful, but I find a lot of interesting things get low IMDB ratings because they're too artsy/weird/difficult/etc. So I prefer looking at the RT average, and reading a couple reviews from people whose tastes are similar to mine.

I've recently seen "The Act of Killing", a documentary film about the mass murder committed on supposed "communists" after the military putsch in Indonesia in 1965. It had an interesting premise in that the actual perpetrators of these murders were encouraged to make a film about these events, and the actual film we as spectators are watching, is kind of a "behind the scenes" of this process.
While it has some interesting scenes that allow the spectators to get a glimpse into the horrors of the actual events of these days, the film is simply much too long.
It is kind of chilling, though, that the criminals of this era and the organizations they used to commit those atrocities are still in power today. Also, they managed to establish a strange mystification for gangsters and corruption in the general populace.
2/5, could be much better if it was compressed a bit.

I dunno, I saw The Act of Killing last year, and I was too busy being disturbed to be thinking about how long the thing was.

There are always outliers of course, and it is very much a flawed approach. There are many films that I adore that don't score highly for whatever reason. So recommendations is also a factor - including in this very thread.

The Lodge - 8/10
Good film on Netflix shock!
More of a gruelling drama with horror support than a straight up horror movie, but pretty engrossing throughout. Worth a go if you ever feel like you’re feeling too happy.

I dunno, I saw The Act of Killing last year, and I was too busy being disturbed to be thinking about how long the thing was. “It was kind of chilling though” suggests the film didn’t land for him as it did for most people. I’d have gone for something more “emotionally devastating” or “soul-wrenchingly disturbing” myself.

Worth a go if you ever feel like you’re feeling too happy. Yeah I watched this recently and thought it was really good. It spends a *little* too much on the build-up I think. It just about gets away with it by just nailing the eerie foreboding tone in every single minute of it, but that does also get a bit monotone beyond a certain point.

Public Enemies
I love this era and gangster stuff set around it so surprised I'd never seen it. There's one stand out shootout but it's all a bit bland playing it too straight. Characters aren't really fleshed out and neither is the setting or story. Watching this you'd never get why Bale made it big either, very forgettable performance.
Tommy guns will always be cool though.
6/10

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Well I rather enjoyed that. After what some of you were saying I was expecting disappointment, but it was fun and many Nazis were taken out. Muchos better than Crystal Skull.
The de-aging was incredible.

When I was about eight the class three years up did a school production of Bugsy Malone. I had a crush on one of the girls who was cast as a showgirl and sat through most of the play with a wicked erection.
All this and more in my upcoming memoir.
