I don't really understand how Speed could be considered derivative of Die Hard. It's not as if "terrorist takes people hostage, lone hero must rescue them" is this unique premise that Die Hard has a monopoly on.

Wasn't Under Siege 2 (the one on the train) supposed to be a Die Hard script or something? [edit: wiki says not, just inspired by] They all swapped scripts so many times it's hard to keep up.
PS/The best die hard clone (via speed) is of course Father Ted.

Kal has pointed out that nearly all the Die Hard sequels started out as something else.
2 was just plane terrorists 3 was Lethal Weapon 4? 4 was some hacking terrorist thing called Firesale

I don't know about that, but I think Die Hard 3 was originally a Lethal Weapon script.

And 1 was based on a book that was a sequel to a book that became a Frank Sinatra film, and he contractually got first refusal on the lead before it went to Willis.

Yeah it'd been knocking around since the 70s. Think every fucker got considered, at one stage. McQueen, Reynolds and Redford are names I've seen wafting around.

I tried one of those. Lasted 5 minutes. Too many quick cuts and OMG MOMENTS. I think it was Josh Gadd? That guy from Beauty and the Beast.

Speaking of Speed, I had an accidental Keanu marathon recently. I watched Point Break, Bill and Teds, Dracula, The Matrix and Parenthood in fairly close proximity and was like 'these are all really great movies', so I had a quick look at his filmography and, whatever you think about his performances, hats off to his agent because for a ten odd year period from the late 80s, he had a proper hot streak that would stand up to pretty much any other actors CV. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keanu_Reeves_filmography

Keanu was very busy in the early days, just stay the fuck away from Chain Reaction, it's a film so bad I wish I'd asked for my money back.

I watch Dracula fairly regularly. It’s aged fantastically well. The more I watch it the more I’m convinced the hammy acting was entirely intentional and Keanu was actually brilliantly cast. If you imagine that film with a competent actor doing a good English accent it honestly wouldn’t work.

Yeah, it really has. With all the in-camera stuff, it looks so theatrical, really timeless stuff. I absolutely love it. Pretty much the only thing that ages it, maybe, is that Annie Lennox song that plays in the credits.

Coppola knew how to put a film together.
Well… Jack is up for debate.

Saltburn - 8/10
Really enjoyed that, although it did make me want to be stinking rich and I'm not sure that was the point. Also Barry Keoghan is objectively a very ugly man, so him being portrayed as master seducer of both sexes was a bit weird...
Oh and the icky bits were very icky.

He might not be "conventionally good looking" but Barry Keoghan is hardly ugly by any measure

I’m not sure I saw him as a master seducer. I just think the society he embroiled himself in were just very very dtf.

His insta bio = B R A N D O ❤️☘️
And the whole thing is him giving blue steel.
I like him in pretty much everything, especially Banshees, but I did find him hard to take as the lead in Saltburn.

He might not be "conventionally good looking" but Barry Keoghan is hardly ugly by any measure He's vertically challenged and unquestionably ugly, even with the millions of pounds of Hollywood glamour poured on him.
