The Iceman 7/10
Shannon is very good but the film doesn’t really say much other than killer man loved his family and killed people.

Saltburn. Nowhere near as good as it thinks it is. I really enjoyed the first half. It completely falls apart at a certain key point, totally shark jumps, and then doesn’t know how to end and goes on forever. Final scene was laughably awful. 6/10 What was awful about it? Was it the big swinging cock? [\spoiler] No, it was just shite.

Happiest Season - 5/10
Tonally weird with one of the most saccharine finales I think I've ever seen.

Porco Rosso 9/10
I’ve never paid proper attention to a Ghibli film, I did for this one and loved it.

The One - 7/10. Jet Li kills 122 other Jet Li's and only has one left to get all their power. Great fight scenes. Statham is doing Statham. Going to watch Hero tomorrow.

Tbf I review movies by reading plot summaries on IMDB. The Wikipedia ones are too wordy.

I'm glad people are finally recognizing that Die Hard 2 is great, though ranking it below #1 is going a bit far. Happiest Season - 5/10 Tonally weird with one of the most saccharine finales I think I've ever seen. Yeah, it's odd isn't it. The central couple just really doesn't work, and everyone I know who watched it thought the Kirsten Stewart character should have gone off with the Aubrey Plaza one.
Mackenzie Davis' character is just really annoying. Which is a shame as she was great in that Terminator movie and apparently in Station 11.
Should have been much better with that cast.

Yes, it really should have. At times it seemed as though it was going to subvert the formula, then we get a rote final act. It's so jarring that I wonder if there were script shenanigans somewhere along the line.

It's A Wonderful Life. 9/10. One of those films that I'd seen a lot of in clips etc and knew what happened, but had never sat down to watch. Quality from start to finish, Stewart is of course excellent, as is Donna Reed. It's not even that schmaltzy really. Loads of cinematic techniques that must have been groundbreaking at the time. Marvellous stuff. (Fashionably late etc)

I'm so incensed by this I've fucked up 2 posts. Well, if it helps... Die Hard 10/10 Even better than I remember. I can't really think of a single flaw in all honesty (apart from Helsinki Syndrome). It's a perfect action film Xmas movie. I'd forgotten how much I love the rapport between McClane and Powell, and how comically bad Dwayne T. Robinson is at his job (the main reason Roger Ebert gave it a bad review according to IMDb trivia).

If Dwayne was anywhere near competent Mclane wouldn't have had to do half as much of the shit he did.

Yeah, I haven't seen the review, but it seems like an odd thing to mark the film down for. Along with the Johnsons, he's clearly comic relief and as you suggest a constant reminder that McClane is on his own.

I tried Evil Dead original on prime. Man, that is a film that doesn't need HD.

Until someone mentioned Kristen Stewart I’d completely forgotten I’d seen Happiest Season. I think I sort of liked it but agree there’s that pivotal moment that anyone in their right mind would just say “you know what? Fuck this shit” and write the whole thing off.

An incompetent police chief in Los Angeles is so unrealistic, Ebert was clearly right!

Ebert's point was more that the deputy police chief didn't really need to be in the movie, because he performs no purpose except to be completely wrong about anything and everything. You could take out that character and still be left with a tighter, better thriller with John McClane killing a bunch of terrorists.
Which you can agree or disagree with (I kind of disagree), but it's a bit more complicated than "incompetent cops are unrealistic!" or what have you.

I also like Agents Johnson and Johnson. It's the cliche of the higher ups getting in the way of the maverick hero but I fucking love it. ALL OF IT. Still can't believe User Freddie gave this film 7/10. I mean COME THE FUCK ON.

Even better than I remember. I can't really think of a single flaw in all honesty (apart from Helsinki Syndrome). Isn’t that just a weird joke? The host immediately qualifies it as ‘as in Helsinki, Sweden’.
