They weren’t going to win any awards but I enjoyed the last Mortal Kombat and Resident Evil films for what they were worth. Deeply, deeply flawed as they were.

I liked them both too, they're not great movies but *whisper* the stories of both games are shit as well so what do you expect?

I heard he was going to be the new Mario. And the new Indiana Jones. And the new Ethan Hunt. And the new Johnny Cage. I hear he is going to be the next James Bond and will be taking the character's voice back to its Sean Connery roots.

Chris Pratt is also someone I would fail to recognise on the street. He's just so bland. At least Paul Rudd has some kind of charm.

He’s been in a few good movies, it’s just they were all before Guardians. Things like Moneyball and Her.

But seriously, the existence of Chris Pratt has made me appreciate Tom Hardy more. Yes, Hardy is terrible at accents, but he's usually terrible in a funny way.

Really enjoyed it, it's not what you expect from the trailers (thankfully they don't really give a lot away), but it's really well done, entertaining and whips along at a fair pace.
82/100

Chris Pratt was great in Parks & Recreation but even I’m surprised he’s gotten so much work.
Passengers will probably go down as being one of the most embarrassing films of the 2010s.

Doesn't he basically wake JLaw up to finger/ seduce her?

The whole Michael Sheen bar sections are clearly evoking The Shining. I'm sure there was at least a draft of the script that had the Pratt character as a more overt villain, although I suspect it likely got as far as filming before it was changed.

Doesn't he basically wake JLaw up to finger/ seduce her? yeah he condemns her to die with him because he was space horny. The film tries to posit that Pratt wakes her up because he falls in love with her tinder profile while she’s in cryostasis, but you don’t pick out Jennifer Lawrence over everyone else from a sexy space Argos catalogue and say you fell in love with her personality.

It's been a while since I saw it. But if he never woke anyone up the whole ship would have been destroyed anyway?

The movie then tries to justify him being horrendous by eventually giving them a problem only two people can fix so he would have had to wake a second, presumably less sexy person up anyway.

Should have just warmed her up to room temp. Kept the head in stasis.
Worked hs way round the ship. Would have been a legendary swordsman.
Once they arrive on Planet X. Boom 10 thousand kids and no responsibility.

I didn’t hate it and appreciated them trying to be faithful but it was like a high end fan film in a lot of ways. It is still the best live action Resi adaptation by some distance though.

Been a while since I reviewed, but plenty of films.
Die Hard (1988) - 100 - still a glorious romp. He may have made some duffs, but In 4 years John McTiernan made Predator, Die Hard and The Hunt for Red October which is an amazing run.
Glass Onion (2022) - 60 - the cast were clearly having a lot of fun and I enjoyed bits, but it's heavy handed in it's satire, and isn't a satisfactory mystery.
A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (2019) - 80 - creative, funny, beautifully made.
RRR (2022) - 95 - off the charts bonkers and hugely creative.
The Menu (2022) - 70 - some solid performances, an entertaining setup, but nothing amazing.
Crank (2006) - 70 - first time watching, entertaining, over the top.
Avatar (2009) - 60 - hadn't watched since the cinema and I remember why. The creativity/imagination is great, but the story and dialogue is very average and it's all just a bit dull (visuals aside).
Avatar: The Way of the Water (2022) - 50 - it's a very good tech demo, but it's somehow even duller than the first (despite being almost a remake). The big set pieces looked great on a technical level (went to the Empire Leicester Square IMAX), but the action somehow felt bland and not well choreographed - sure it wasn't masked in shaky cam, to it's credit, but they just weren't fun or exhilarating.
The Adventures of Tintin (2011) - 80 - in stark contrast to Avatar2, the action in this is sublime and even though the animation looks a little dated, the framing and pacing was excellent, giving the whole film a sense of adventure and peril.
The Fabelmans (2022) - 85 - solid performances all round, emotional without unnecessary schmaltz, and surprisingly funny in places. A love letter to film which clearly lands with the Oscar crowd, but it's a solid film in it's own right and a really enjoyable coming of age story.

I remember going into Passengers thinking it was going to be some kind of space/sci fi horror.

Why couldn't they just go back to sleep? Well I find that once you're up, you're up, so you might as well just get on with the dishes or something.

Why couldn't they just go back to sleep? Been a while since I watched but didn't the cryo systems require someone to finalise the process so one of them couldn't go back? It seems a common fault in not well written science fiction stories that incredibly complex systems like that have a honkingly obvious flaw.

Seems like an obvious issue that would be solved very early on if it was a real technology.

The Woman (2011) A pretty disturbing/humans really can be the worst type of film. Basically a family kidnap a wild cannibal woman, and things get weird. Fun isn't the word, but interesting and at times very intense. 7.5/10
Sissy (2022) Two childhood best friends are reunited. Starts off a bit too Means Girls, but in 2022 where they are all bitchy influencers. But takes a dark, and gory turn. A decent watch for horror fans I'd say. 6/10
Plane (2023) I haven't watched too many Gerard Butler action thrillers, but this might be similar to a load of them. I thought it was pretty decent though. Not exactly original, felt like an episode of Homeland. And what is up with Butler's accent? Sometimes sounds really really Scottish, sometimes doesn't sound Scottish at all.... The character in this was Scottish. 6.5/10
