Ha. I rewatched Dog Soldiers a couple of weeks ago.
First time I've watched it in years, and I was a bit worried if it still holds up....and honestly I think I like it nore now than before. The low budget is more than just it's charm. I just can't imagine how it's work any other way. It's just so well put together and Sean Pertwee seems to having the time of his life.
The Chekhov's Gun thing with the silver dagger doesn't quite work because he uses it on a wolf that really didn't need to be there and the main wolves were dead by then. Also, why does the explosion only explode upwards?
9/10. Probably my favourite low budget UK horror ever.

Candyman (1992)
It's aged incredibly well and has lost none of it's effectiveness. Watched it with the boy and he absolutely loved it.

Love Candyman. One of my favourite horror films. The theme is amazing I don't think the remake was all that, mainly because I can't really remember anything about it
Might have to watch it again now. And Hellraiser

I wasn't a fan of the new one. It's not a terrible film but I also can't recall much about it. Part of what makes the original so great is Tony Todd's great big booming voice and the Philip Glass soundtrack. I actually read (if IMDB can be trusted) only last night that when shooting at Caprini Green they had to cast actual gang members in order to be allowed to film there, and on the last day of filming a sniper fired a bullet into one of the production vans. I think you can still feel that authenticity oozing out from it.

Hellraiser is another one that I watched not too long ago. It's not aged quite so well but it too is still a brilliant film. Always irked me what they did after that with the Cenobites, essentially making them campy standard monster movie villains instead of what they are in the first film.
Mind you, Clive himself has also shat on them from a great height. Read the Scarlet Gospels recently... Yikes.

We all know how you feel about remakes. But yeah I can't really be bothered to watch it as the original is just perfect. Anyone actually seen the remake of Hellraiser? I heard it wasnt terrible.

Remake of Hellraiser is a bit of a guilty pleasure of mine. It's not amazing but it's quite decent and I think it's worth a watch.

The Hellraiser remake is OK. Not terrible. The setup is completely different, with some rich guy in a weird mansion. I didn't like the new cenobite designs as much as they look a bit too clean
I wish there were more good Clive Barker adaptations

It's one of those series where I sometimes get the bright idea of watching the entire series thinking that eventually they'll be so bad they're good, like Nightmare on Elm Street. They do get bad. Just bad. That goes for both

Reminds me I need to rewatch Nightbreed, which from memory isn't good but is very fun. I haven't seen it since I read Cabal either so interested to see how it stacks up.

Can't even stomach the fourth which, from memory, I gave up on first time around. The third is such an obnoxious cheesefest. Didn't rate the second much either but it at least feels like a logical follow-on from the first and you can't fault it's ambition, even if you can fault it's effects.

I do like Hellraiser 2. The labyrinth and new cenobite are really cool and it has a similar nasty tone to the first. Third one is when it starts going silly with novelty cenobites, then they humanise Pinhead and make him boring
It's crazy how Nightmare on Elm Street basically turns into a comedy

I quite liked New Nightmare though. It makes things darker again whilst going a bit meta.

I haven't watched that one for ages as I always get fed up with them before that point. Might do a rewatch up to Dream Warriors then skip to New Nightmare

To be fair I haven't watched that one since the 90s so god knows if it's aged well or not.

There are many horror films that give me the chills. Hellraiser is one of those that certainly does.

I've never been able to say Candyman in the mirror 5 times. Just in case
Someone go and do it. I dare you. And tell us what happens

Dog Soldiers was the last VHS I bought alongside 28 Days Later. 28 Days Later has such an interesting look to it because I think it was shot on digital rather than film but like 2003 digital so its got a funny filtered noisy grain look to it that film-films from the same period don’t have. Solid pair though, a good uni night in.

The movie was OK but I was absolutely infuriated by the two kids.

I vaguely remember Hellraiser 2 just being them wandering around a maze for what felt like forever.
