You guys are making me very confused about whether to go see Alien: Romulus. It seems to be either the best Aliens movie since Aliens, or the worst of the lot.
I think I'll watch Twisters. I hope Twister3 is ok.

I enjoyed the Alien Isolation phones getting a cameo in Romulus. I think it would have been a better film had it had the courage to drop a few of its references. Maybe Rook could have been David, to perhaps be slightly less ghoulish? The effects weren’t great… And maybe not make Andy like Lenny from Of Mice and Men in 2024?

The A:I references were about the level of subtlelty it should have had for the rest of them. Or maybe they should have leant into those more too and had someone be like "HELP THE ALIEN'S IN HERE WITH ME AND I AM ISOLATED, SAVE ME"

The first 5 minutes will give you a good indication of whether you like Alien 3 or not.

And Alien Resurrection is fun because of the absurd plot and the set design is fucking epic thanks to Jean-Pierre Jeunet.

Resurrection is like an insane graphic novel that somehow got a movie adaptation

Considering the quality of deep fakes that I'm told people post on 4chan, for free, you've got to wonder whether the team doing the headwork in A:R are paying the producers for work experience.

Do they actually use the whippet in that one? If so, I'm in.

Given the absurdity of everything, and her anti gun stance that screwed over alien 3, they should have Chekhov's Basketball'd the hell out of that.

Deadpool & Wolverine (2024) - 70/100 - I enjoyed the first couple of Deadpool movies, and Jackman has always made a great Logan/Wolverine. It's well enough put together, I enjoyed the cameos (having avoided nearly all spoilers) and it's a loving tribute to the Fox universe, but I'm just a bit over the MCU from over saturation. It wasn't great, but it was fun.
Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F (2024) - 60/100 - Had a few beers and put this on with limited expectations. The story is serviceable, the action is fine, and it rattles along at a decent pace. It looks the part, the updated soundtrack works really well, and the cast are generally great - both those reprising their roles (even if showing their age - some more than others) and the new characters. It's not going to win any awards, isn't really a patch on the first 2, but I enjoyed it and it does feel part of "the universe".
Going to see Alien: Romulus tonight

I saw a movie that isn't Alien Romulus!
In Vitro
An Australian science fiction thriller set on a rural farm in the near future, with a farmer who is attempting to clone cows. Directed by a couple of guys as their first feature, and they were in attendance! They were nice!
Anyway, it has some neat ideas, and a couple of interesting developments part way through the story. I did get a bit annoyed at a couple of the jump scares, though, I felt that they were unnecessary and distracted me from the stuff that was actually interesting about the movie.
Good for a first effort, I hope they make more things!
7/10

Furiosa. I was expecting it to be disappointing but thought it was great. Watched in two sittings, it looks stunning and it rumbled along at a good pace. I think this and FR sit nicely together, not sure what all the crying was about. 7.3/10

There was crying? I thought it was pretty universally agreed to be great. The only disagreement was whether it was better than Fury Road or not.
Bit like Alien3 and Aliens.

Sorry, wasn't trying to bait. A mate of mine was saying it was disappointing and got flack on release. I didn't read anything about it on release myself so just took it there had been internet moaning. Glad to know there wasn't! Anyway! Tis good. I liked the Dementor, a lovely ott baddie.

Most of the flack it got seemed to be from people who wanted/hoped for Fury Road 2.0 and another non stop action fest as best as I could see.
And some of the suspect CG too I think.
