Found it a bit try hard with all the GAMING REFERNECES to GAMING and GAMING CULTURE and GAMING JOKES. It's hard to watch anything with gaming references if you know anything at all about gaming. I know it's a small thing, but the idea that nobody ever went backwards off the start line in Ready Player One annoys me so much.

Hot Shots part deux 6/10. 25 years ago I thought this was hilarious, now not so much. It has its moments. Agreed, although I still think this was great:

National Lampoon's Vacation
Chevy Chase is such a weird sex pest/10
Not a patch on Christmas Vacation, but still got a few chuckles out of me.

Jungle Cruise - 7/10, I took the kids to watch it yesterday, was pleasantly surprised, it helps that I like all the actors involved, even whitehall. Basically ROTLA mixed with the first pirates of the caribbean. Its a bit too long, but a good romp recommended

Bone Tomahawk - 8/10 Good fun even with the surprisingly long run time. The old man banter managed to hold up. /That/ scene gave me a wry smile it was so mad, like preparing a fish . Found the opening shot more disturbing tbh.

The Dry
it's a 'my gf quite fancies Eric Bana who is vastly better looking than me but is quite a good actor so i'm not bitter about her sliding off the sofa every time he's onscreen as i also quite enjoy his films and this one is a decent way to pass the time/10'

Free Guy
I really enjoyed i(didn't like internet "celebs" cameo but very minor) but its fun and does not ram game references down your throat. I don't think it would of worked with out ryan reynolds in the main role and Jodie comer is also really good and her character is very likeable. TW becomes a bit of panto villain
8/10

V for Vendetta (2006)
A rewatch in 4K, which isn't revelatory in terms of quality but is still a nice upgrade nevertheless.
I was considerably prejudiced against this on release as I am a massive AlanMooreMasturbator and I still take umbrage at most of the changes the Wachowskis made (fuck off v speech at the beginning - I know someone who's never made it past that point because they thought it was so cringeworthy, which it still is).
It still has powa though. The Evey torture sequence, which is almost spot-on from the graphic novel and retains (mostly) Moore's wonderful dialogue (which still makes me cry, but I cried when I read the graphic novel because I'm such a pansy but mostly because Moore's writing is so wonderful) is perfect,as is the sequence where Finch describes subconsciously nearly understanding all the pieces in the narrative which are foreshadowed while V sets up his dominoes.
Those scenes have real oomph which no amount of shit Natalie Portman accents or naff Stephen Fry scenes can take away. And even the hit-you-over-the-head ending is more effective than I remember, and is moving.
8 eggy in the baskets out of 10.

If you are a fan of the original comic and are in/can get to London, then you might like the Cartoon Musuem's V for Vendetta exhibition. Not massive but some nice original artwork and some nice insights into the strip and the film.

Body Heat
Horny 80s film. Mustached man goes to see married women's wind chimes. Unzips. Gets himself into some bother. Soundtrack includes delicious sax.

Beckett: 7/10
Really pretty good homage to 70s conspiracy thrillers. Has David John Washington scarpering across Greece being helped and hindered, but mostly hindered, by a bunch of Greeks as he avoids a bunch of cops who want to kill him because he found out something he shouldn't while on holiday. Strange, slightly cheap 70s feel to it, right up until he wanders through what seems to be an all-out riot in a city square complete with riot-gear cops, rioting Greeks, and smoke grenades galore, which all felt quite high budget.
Anyway, I liked it way more than I expected to.

The Lost Boys
Always worth a rewatch, while I prefer Near Dark as a film this is just so much fun to watch. Wonderful cast, decent story and an excellent soundtrack. Needed more sax guy (RIP dude) and Gramps.
They're only noodles Michael.

A Dark Song
On a roll with horror films recently. Another great one. Found the ending quite disarming

Black Widow
It was ok-ish I guess, I'm a big Marvel fan comics first before movies buy this felt like a box ticking exercise to a degree, very safe and the usual big thing exploding at the end. I felt as if this movie needed to come out a long time ago as honestly I didn't really care what happened between Civil War and Infinity War. Meh.

Anyway, I liked it way more than I expected to. We thought this was really mediocre! Throwing in the US as the conspiratorial bad guy as well was really quite weak / obvious - and quite preposterous. There was also a really obvious play, to try to call the kidnapped kid's father, as he was definitely going to be trustworthy. Main dude does a good go tho at a John McClane - getting shot stabbed beat up etc.

Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country - 8.5/10
Not much to say. It's pretty good. Well, that alien lady in the prison camp was... wow. Not sure how I feel about all those Shakespeare quotes, that's such a tired cliche in Trek I could do without it.
Star Trek 7: Generations - 4/10
It made me chuckle that the first Trek movie made by the TNG showrunners starts with lots of technobabble and historic roleplaying on the holodeck. But those were probably the better parts of this movie. Rubbish.
Star Trek 8: First Contact - 7/10
It's not an incompetent movie, clearly a lot better than Generations, but by trying to be more appealing to the masses it's just too filled with tropes and cliches without doing much interesting with them. Borg queen is just cringe.
Only Insurrection and Nemesis left to go. Pretty sure Insurrection was crap again but then Nemesis confirmed the rule that the even-numbered movies were the good ones, right? ...right?

Nemesis is the worst of the proper Trek films, IMO by quite a distance. It might even be worse than the first reboot film.

It is the only one I ever rewatch. I don't quite get the love for 2, it is not bad but I don't see the brilliance others seem to.

6 is excellent. It's really got that Wrath of Khan vibe. Not much really happens in it if you look at it, they have dinner, it kicks off, Kirk and Bones away mission, murder mystery on the Enterprise with Spock, quick scrap at the end. Imagine them commissioning that script these days?! That would be like 10 minutes of a modern star trek movie.
But that's why it works. Characters and dialogue are allowed to breathe, it's really excellent. Doesn't have the action or stakes of Wrath of Khan, but it's still brilliant.
Generations was the first ST movie I ever watched in the cinema. I really loved it at the time as a kid but in hindsight.. bit shit innit.

I like the Borg queen!
But Zefram Cochrane? I hate his hat, I hate the stupid jukebox and I hate that 3 people are building a spacecraft while living in a tent. All of those scenes including drunk Troy are awful.
