This is pretty sweet, big slabby death metal, with a hint of hardcore. (but not what I'd deathcore)

New Rivers of Nihil. I heard it earlier and just recently now and I still can't tell if I like it or not.

New Sulphur Aeon was released on Friday. It's more blackened/less brutal than previous albums but very very good.

Funeral Doom apparently. Would have thought that it is some kind of Black Metal, considering the vocals and how depressing it sounds.

Nice new surprise (to me anyway) split album from Dream Unending and Worm.
At first listen, Worm are killing it here... In the past they've been described as various combinations of blackened, prog, funeral doom... all of which are apt at various points on this recording.
New Lowest Creature is also doing it for me nicely.

New Kanonenfieber, FFO World War-themed, slightly-melodeathy black metal.

Go Ahead And Die remains the best original thing Max Cavalera has done in 20 years

I know power metal doesn't get as much love in here, but I'm enjoying this discovery at the moment. Like being in the mind of a very happy serial killer.

Slower is a doom metal Slayer cover band, with members of The Year of the Cobra, Kyuss, Monolord and Fu Manchu. As someone who a) likes Slayer and b) likes doom I think this is pretty fun.

I recently ran across this song in Shadow Warrior 2. I did always ignore the arcade machines, but the Serious Sam one plays this song, which is apparently from Serious Sam 3.

The new Green Lung album came out today. Instead of all out Sabbath and Dio worship the more melodic stuff makes it sound almost like Ghost doing NWOBHM at times.

Dying Wish is classic metalcore with a bit of hardcore for good measure. Their new album came out yesterday and I'd recommend it if the above sounds good to you.

This is fun, not really familiar with the band but saw they were playing in my town in Feb and the name intrigued me. I think I'll go along. (UK crossover thrash)

Not sure, think I like this. It's a bit overblown maybe? Some of the orchestration is quite nice though.

Oh yeah looks like I'll be going to Arctangent again this year. Such a great festival!
Just seen Hulder is playing the UK next week, pretty keen for that. She seems to have nailed the right balance of rawness and musicality, I'm pretty fussy with what black metal I enjoy.

It's coming up to that time. What are everyone's recommendations for albums of the year? These are the ones that stick out to me
Ontological Mysterium - Horrendous Shades of Sorrow - Crypta War Remains - Enforced World Domination - Blood Command Blossom - Pupil Slicer

Pupil Slicer - Blossom, for sure
For me personally I'd also standouts include:
Hellripper - Warlocks Grim & Withered Hags Graveripper - Seasons Dreaming Death Krigsgrav - Fires in the Fall VHS - Quest for the Mighty Riff Urne - A Feast on Sorrow
And not exactly metal but metal-adjacent
Zulu - A New Tomorrow Poison Ruin - Harvest

Yes to Hellripper, Enforced and Horrendous.
Also Tomb Mold.
And think I'm going to add Marthe to that list too...

Couple of my mates released their debut album last month and I'm stoked for the guys that this is a metal tinged, hardcore banger.
