Enjoying this album, doom metal, but there's a NWOBHM influence as well as the usual Sabbath worship, so it kinda stands out

At Vader tonight, in a tiny rock club, should be good.

This is a very good album. Death / thrash with hints of punk and doom.

Saw Bolzer and Abduction last night.
Both were pretty great.
Abduction, who were the support act, were frankly amazing. They really deserve to be bigger. Very tight, their black/death mixture isn't the most technical but they performed it extremely well.
Despite the relatively small crowd - maybe only 20 people in the small venue at the start, though it did fill up as they played - that still went for a good theatrical stage presence, all in masks, the singer in a face obscuring robe.
Bolzer were also very good. Pretty incredible how a two piece band can get such a rich sound - probably some playback for sure, but most of the noise was live. Very powerful sound.
Anyway was a fun evening.

New Pupil Slicer album out today. Really liked on first listen, not always the case with this kind of genre. Wasn't expecting the album to have so many serene moments and it's to its benefit.
New Sylosis song too, really good.

Shape of Despair: Funeral Doom. No pun intended, but they can be a bit monotonous sometimes. It's like a razor-thin edge and they are often in danger of falling off on the wrong side.

The Pupil Slicer album is pretty good. It's a bit less mathy and chaotic than the first, but in a really good way.
I mean that mathcore basis still underpins the album, but there are more straightforward sections too, and it gives the album a really good flow. It does branch into other genres a lot, but of shoegaze, but of 90's rock, bit of black metal. And I'm all for that.
Seeing them later this year, think they're supporting Employed to Serve. Or it might the other way around.

Deafheaven last night. Not much of a fan, but they were pretty good.

That Pupil Slicer album is a grower. The way the album just flows together is more important than any single song, on a first listen it's a bit bewildering but repeated listens really bring out the nuance. And this track is the keystone to the entire thing. More Blackgaze than Mathcore and it's just powerful.
I am really keen to see how / if the band can do all this shit live. I have doubts tbh but as long as they try.
I also really love the Silent Hill quote in the lyrics.

More metal-adjacent, but I found them via a review on Metalinjection...
Vulture Industries are super excellent, catchy hard/goth rock that I currently can't get enough of.

Prog death metal with some added vocals and hurdy gurdy from Anna Murphy for good measure.

New Rivers of Nihil song without the previous front man. In short, don't think you have to worry too much.

New Kvelertak and Baroness in one day... Happy times!
The baroness track in particular is excellent, love it when every musician in the band adds something interesting like this. The production is decent too unlike their last couple of albums.

Wild that a band who just played Coachella, with a vocalist who has pink hair, just released one of the heaviest songs I've ever heard:

Not really feeling the KSE vibes, not enough melody and there isn't a biiig chorus. It's an obvious leap but it's closer to Black Crown Initiate, given the new guitarist/vocalist came from there.

Haha, yep you're right sorry - it's not at all like KSE, my bad I think whilst writing that the vocalist's screams reminded me of Howard, but the overall song not at all

I suspect that this thread is a bit targeted towards more extreme forms of metal, but if you are in the mood for some quality Power/Epic metal, you really cannot do wrong with Sacred Outcry's latest opus, Towers of Gold:

Crystal Lake back with a new vocalist. So far so familiar, but prob a good thing. Ryo was pretty great but it's better to have stepped away and be in a happier state of mind than he was. Will give this guy a fair shot.

Out of "new" metal bands (for me that would be bands formed in the 21st century) Leprous are among the best. They seem to go from strength to strength with each album and on stage they are fucking awesome; watched them 4-5 so far, each show better than the last! Einar on vocals has a unique sound with all the "aaa-aaa-hhh" melodies and Baard is a beast on the drums!!
Love them!!!

New song and video from Graveripper, taken from their upcoming first album. It rips. Their earlier EP, Radiated Remains, is apparently currently free on Bandcamp until September, which also rips. I highly reccomend it.

Will give this guy a fair shot. It's weird because I think he sounds great, but the song itself is very meh - kinda the opposite of what I was expecting Bodes well for future songs maybe. He's barely even in the second half of the song?!

That's kind of the mystery of Crystal Lake because there are a lot of songs in their discography I think are just ok, nothing too special. And they either vary from Parkway Drive esque metalcore to hardcore to deathcore, so you never quite know what song you will get. Anticipating the next one!

Can't believe I've been sleeping on Dark Angel until now. I mean, I knew them by name but never checked them out. They're great! Sadly, guitarist Jim Durkin passed away earlier this year. Rest in peace.

Anyone going/been to see Maiden on this tour?
I'm going to the o2 tomorrow, seen a few videos but blimey their age is catching up with them these days, I do miss the energy of the early 2000s shows (not old enough for the true original era).
That said, I'm massively looking forward to it, looks like they're wheeling out some proper classic songs.
