Rat king crown by burner. Wow so heavy I love it. Spotify just played it for me after the metal I was listening to ended. I assumed everyone would know it but they only have around 10k listeners on Spotify.
Edit..linky

In Flames just dropped an album being hailed as a return to form fairly universally. I haven't made my mind up yet but it's at least got some metal in it compared to the last few since everybody left.

Wasn't there just album supposed to have some melodeath on it? Did hear a single from that and it seemed reasonably melodeath, at least compared to their recent stuff.
Not really listened to them since , I dunno, Come Clarity. and not really liked them since Clayman.

I went and listened to the later album stuff last year when they released I think the first single off this. It's objectively metallic but a lot of it in a big 'simple groove riff with a couple of twin harmonies and then the pop but not good enough for pop radio chorus' way. Each album doubtlessly has a song or two that's passable, but this is being written up as back to the glory days.
It's not bad. Certainly worth a listen. Still very chorus driven but they are putting more work into the drums and guitars in the verses and intros etc than they have in later years.
EDIT: The impression I get is it's their version of what happened when Soilwork did The Panic Broadcast. Like a realisation fans wanted a bit of effort putting in basically.

This ones alright, Come Clarity is probably the closest comparison

The Atlas Moth: Atmospheric Sludge/Stoner Metal
Some kind of supergroup if I remember correctly.

Seeing Gojira next week. Interestingly the Cardiff show looked like a much more sophisticated setup than they had in the earlier shows (Dublin/Belfast/Glasgow/Newcastle), hoping the London show is the full thing. It's in Alexandra Palace, which I've never been to before and heard is a bit of a crap venue.
Still, it's Gojira so whatever happens it should be epic.

Off to see Dawn Ray'd in a few weeks.
The patched-up vest I wear to gigs has a Mgla patch so I might cover that up lest I be harangued by Radical Anarchist Black Metal types.

As Elden Ring gets confirmation of an expansion, here's one of my favourite drummers right now, Jared from Rivers of Nihil, blast beating his way through the main theme

Same vibes as their last song, feels like couple dad's just jamming. Lacks a certain something.

I don't dislike it, but it's that suits combination of "jamming" and being a bit too cleanly produced. If you're going to do something that harks back to your influences it needs to just be dirtier and chunkier, a bit more lofi.
It still wouldn't be amazing but it would definitely help.

Loving Phobophilic
I'm quite picky with my death metal but these guys scratch the Blood Incantation / Tomb Mold itch nicely...
Also the old-school-Baroness fan in me is really enjoying Tuskar (late to the party on this one, I've missed them live at several festivals too).
Also, reporting back from the Gojira show at Ally Pally - they are the best big live metal act today, no question. Alien Weaponry were shit though, I have no idea what excites people about them - bland nu-metal vibes tarted up with some (admittedly novel in the metal world) Maori vibes.
Next live shows for me are Lamb of God (with Kreator and Sylosis if it actually happens this time), then Warbringer/Hellripper. Looking forward to both!

That new Metallica song reminds me a lot of their Death Magnetic sound

Rediscovered Borknagar after many years. A good mix of proggy folky black metal.

Shameless self-promotion here, as my band released a new single today, from our upcoming album. If you want to hear a death/grind band doing doom, it might be something for you. Not sure how well spotify embeds work here, but it can also be found at forcefedhorsehead.bandcamp.com/track/the-black-sun-2

Pretty decent album. Very on the nose political lyrics which will probably annoy some folks but I'm largely into that, and some good riffs. The tracks do start to blur together over the course of the album but there's a few real standout moments. Not hugely original I guess, just good Kreator esque thrash.

Really enjoying Glorious Sunset by Hundred Reasons. Easily as good as Ideas Above our Station. I’ve listened to it a lot since it came out. It really is on another level compared to the three albums after Ideas.

Another one by Abraham. I just wish they had cut down a few of the songs on this album a bit. Almost 112 minutes is clearly too long and a few of the longer songs can't really justify that length. Still, considering the length it's still surprisingly consistent.

New Pupil Slicer, seems relatively more accessible than the mathy first album. Or maybe that's just me. Anyway I like it.

I dont hate new Opeth but hearing Ghost of Perdition come up in my playlist made me have to go back and listen to all of Ghost Reveries again. So good.
