New Hatriot album out now. Had not heard them before but it was a solid listen, just Bay Metal inspired thrash and deathcore. The bassist/vocalist is the son of Exodus' frontman too.

Some good Swedish in Swedish, although you probably know most of these, and it's debatable if the punk stuff fits this thread: Totalt Jävla Mörker (hardcore punk) Dia Psalma (rock/punk) Gravkväde (black metal) Gösta Berlings Saga (synth/prog) Lastkaj 14 (punk) If you go for punk there's tonnes and tonnes and even a typical Swedish punk genre (trallpunk). I've never quite warmed up to his music, but Bergraven uses Swedish. Never heard this before. And yeah there's certainly more out there but compared to other genres it's not much. Don't know if this is true for German or other languages but trying to be "epic" or edgy or singing about Satan or fantasy stuff in Swedish makes everything sound very silly, so it often doesn't match well with metal lyrics. At worst you get absolute embarrassments like Sabaton (who'd be embarrassing in any language to be fair). I can do Black Metal in Swedish if it's Finntroll or something though. Or Sportlov.

The thrash/hardcore punk crossover supergroup project with Mike Patton, Dave Lombardo, Justin Pearson and Michael Crain have a second album coming out. It's one of those projects who aren't really metal or punk that make deciding which archaic forum thread to post in tricky. On the basis that the metal thread is more recently updated I'll go with that.
First album was decent, I like this new track too.

I know what you mean, but I wouldn't dare generalize about it. It often sounds odd to me at first, but it really depends. When Valborg switched to German at some point it was quite offputting, but nowadays I don't mind anymore.

Phil Anselmo is a cunt so I thought I'd look into the other guys from Down and see if they're OK. They're... not. Whats up with Pepper and the boys?

If you'll excuse a bit of metal-related vanity, I've developed a hobby of making "battle jackets" and I just finished work on this thrash/crossover themed jacket, and feel compelled to show people. Now just need to actually go to some gigs so I have an excuse to wear it.

You'd get more on if it had sleeves 😁, or is it leather jacket underneath for full combat prep? It's fun seeing them, as I had a denim jacket in my teens that I adorned with patches and it brings back a lot of nostalgia for me. One back patch at a time obvs, as I wasn't that zealous, although velcro might have been been an interesting option in hindsight for the back patches. I got quite good at sewing them on at one point and even kept them for posterity. Behold...

Don't know the general consensus on Alter Bridge here, but I've been enjoying their latest single:

Don't know the general consensus on Alter Bridge here, but I've been enjoying their latest single: Got a couple of thier albums (III & Blackbird) and I quite like them but I find the guitar work pretty forgettable. I don't know if it's just the mush of downtuned guitars in with the bass, or like this single (which seems on par), the way the vocals and drums are pushed to the fore but I find some of their stuff quite unmemorable despite some great vocal performances etc. I wish the instruments had more room to breathe in their productions. Maybe that's just me though 😕. Kinda feel the same about djenty stuff too. It just sort of washes over me.

To be honest, I haven't actually paid attention to their stuff, but given how much I liked this song and his live vocal performance on "Words darker than their wings (live at Royal Albert Hall)", I think I'll hit spotify and work back their catalogue.

Based on this single, I'd imagine you'll like the 2 albums I've mentioned, as it's more of the same. Words Darker Than Their Wings is the last track on III, and is pretty great. I like the way it's a conversation between 2 people.

I'm probably being harsh but Bower is a bit of an apologist for Phil ("It was just a joke" sort of shit) and Pepper seems a pretty fundamentalist Christian (could be wrong, I only did a quick read, but his shtick seemed to be that he wasn't interested in politics because he believes in the Bible). Didn't find any dirt on Kirk.

Didn't find any dirt on Kirk. I mean, I know it shouldn’t really be a surprise with them all being good Southern boys but it’s a pity they might be endorsing dodginess. I bloody love the COC albums Pepper sang on, Deliverance through to In the Arms of God, as well. And some Crowbar. Less so Eyehategod admittedly.

I like all of the NOLA stuff - and I'll still listen to it occasionally - but my personal politics are now very, very far to the left of that shit.

Valborg: Progressive Death Metal/Doom Metal. Fairly early song.

I've been trying to form a coherent sentence for 5 minutes and are getting nowhere.
The salient points are: Dave Hunt (vocals of Mistress) and Mick Kenney (drummer of Mistress) formed Anaal Nathrakh. Anaal Nathrakh are a band I'm slightly obsessed with.
Anyway, Mistress were concurent with early Anaal Nathrakh. This is one of those songs. I like this song because I believe it's about the film Dead Man's Shoes. Which I also love.

I went to see Rammstein play live tonight. I'm not a big fan but it was mostly a night out with friends. Was an okay gig but the sound in the arena was pretty bad and some scrotumface tried to start a fight with me which was less fun.
What really puzzled me was that half the audience seemed to watch large stretches of the show through their phones. I don't think they were all recording, the people next to me weren't at least, just holding their phones up in photo mode and looking up at the screen instead of the stage. Like periscopes. I haven't been to a big concert in ages, is this normal? Is it how short people make up for being vertically challenged? Can people not cope with reality anymore unless it's viewed through a rectangle?

Anyone doing Bloodstock and/or Arctangent this year? I'm in for both, going to be a hell of a week.
ATG is looking the best musically, but Bloodstock is always fun.

I don't know if these guys count as metal, but exploring the bands playing Arctangent, I've come across Slow Crush, who are excellent. Feels a bit like if you crossed Deftones with Nirvana or something. www.youtube.com/watch?v=jGL-sa4m7-Y&t=342s

Stumbled across on bandcamp.Sludgy noise rock. Kinda Godfleshy, kinda Killing Joke. Oh, shades of Big Black too. Old school Korn riffs rumble up very frequently. But spoken word vocals that descend into screams, and slurred clean singing that you might find on some grunge tracks. It's unhinged, violent, intense, but also vulnerable and human.
I fucking love it. Somehow it's the sound I've been looking for without even realising.
I really love this.
After listening to the album (that was literally an instant purchase) I think this is the just the most cathartic thing I've heard for a very long time. It sounds like how the world makes me feel.

New In Flames stuff isn't totally pants, first time they've done anything thats held my attention for a bit since... I dunno, Clayman probably.
I'd still rather listen to Clayman and earlier stuff, but at least it's actually melodeath again.
