I know when Disco came out - the first two seasons at least - there was a lot of talk about it being the most-streamed show in the world, or something. I seem to recall Paramount shouting about how well it had done. But I've not seen any figures.
Yeah, I think they're probably pretty successful, otherwise why would they be making loads of spin-offs?

Because of CBS all access/Paramount + and the changed landscape of streaming as the dominant mode of consumption.
That's what I suspect anyway. I don't know because they don't release figures. But it would make sense to me.
If you google "star trek viewing figures" a lot of the results are negative. I know when they put Discovery on actual TV it completely flopped.
But who knows on streaming.

It's presumably doing well enough for Netflix not to cancel it, and we know how much Netflix loves cancelling stuff. I guess it's probably doing solidly rather than spectacularly.

Netflix isn't fronting most of the costs as CBS are so they're probably happy with what it costs them.
I'm a bit done with the galaxy wide threat of every season, it's got old and Burnham as captain just seems to be going backwards too. It didn't really help that the reason for the burn was just complete bollocks last season.
I have more hope for Strange New Worlds, Pike was the best thing about season 2 and it'll be nice it's an exploration show.

Netflix has nothing to do with it anymore as far as I know. They funded S1 of Discovery but soon backed out of any further arrangements, which was definitely wise on their part. They will pay for any old shit, so they must have thought it was REALLY bad to not fund another series.
CBS now pays for all of them.
Apparently it costs $8m per episode of Discovery. That's right. Eight, million, dollars.
For reference, the mostly excellent GoT was $10m per episode.

That's insane. Surely Disco doesn't get anything like GoT viewing figures.

Burnham's CGI tears must be about $100,000 a drop or something

Didn’t Wandavision have something nuts like a $200m budget for its ten episodes?

I doubt Netflix is getting it for free so it must get enough views to be worth paying for.

Doesn't he famously think Star Trek fans are quite sad? he is just bitter as his book series didn't get big

I had the Tek War game - or maybe it was just a demo, can't remember - but Back In The Day it felt really cool because you could walk around a "city" filled with NCPs and, well, shoot them, which would bring the police. Also had more realistic blood splatter effects compared to, say, Doom.
In fact, I think it may have been an early Build Engine game.

I played the demo as well, it's so long ago that I can't remember if my PC just wasn't up to playing it or it was just rubbish. I never bought the full game anyway.

I wish you hadn't posted that, as I had really fond memories of what was clearly a janky-ass game even 25 years ago.

For some reason that reminded me of Kryten's character from Back to Reality. Jake, Jake Bullet; Cybernetics! Taking about Red Dwarf, did Trek rip off a few ideas from them, like that episode where the enterprise crew forgets that they volunteered to forget and er, the docs hard light drive?

Omg Geordi... S6 E13: "Aquiel" So there's this woman who's a murder suspect and it's not looking good for her. Geordi is involved in the investigation (which she knows). She tells him she's scared and asks if he believes her, he puts his hands on her cheeks, says "yes I do" and starts kissing her. Dude.

Taking about Red Dwarf, did Trek rip off a few ideas from them, like that episode where the enterprise crew forgets that they volunteered to forget and er, the docs hard light drive? I can't remember the specifics but apparently Patrick Stewart saw an episode of Red Dwarf and got very angry that they'd stolen the plot of a TNG episode, until he found out the Dwarf ep predated the Star Trek ep by about two years (it might have been the one you're on about, actually). Since then Stewart has, apparently, become a big fan of Red Dwarf. I'd be surprised if most of the Star Trek writers were really super-aware of Red Dwarf during the TNG era though; it wasn't really a big deal in the States was it?

This thread has made me source S1 of Enterprise, being somehow the only trek series I've not seen (apart from Lower Decks.)
So far I've seen the pilot feature length ep. The premise is interesting, shame to involve The Future so early on in its development though.
Oh and the fan service of decontamination is exrcuiating. Judging from previous comments I'm assuming I'll have to get used to it?
I'm struggling hard with Archer having watched Quantum Leap though.

I think Quantum Leap is why I always struggled with Enterprise. He will always be Sam Beckett to me.
