No skipping, but I have had it on the whole time while working from home so I’ve done nearly the whole season in the last couple of days

Cogenitor? That was my favourite episode of the season. Trip should have reprimanded for that one, I was expecting him to be demoted. I'm starting season 3 now, Xindi full steam ahead.

Yeah Cogenitor. What a twist, very dark.
I’m on Regeneration now

I skipped that one, wasn't it just a follow up episode for ST First Contact or something? It's a silly episode iirc.

Yeah, they’ve dug up some leftover Borg from First Contact although for some reason the entire planet wasn’t overrun despite being defenceless against their futuristic technology. I’m interested to see how Enterprise gets out of this and writes the incident out of Starfleet history.
I’m enjoying that this series has the crew seeing consequences to their actions in a lot more episodes than

True, that doesn't make sense. Nothing really does with the borg. They could just sneak 1 drone onto any planet and wipe the whole thing out in about a day. The whole premise of First Contact is pretty stupid, why not just go back in time 1000 years when we were living in wooden shacks and shitting in pans?
Time travel stories are always silly.

How many episodes in does The Orville's humour firm up? I've watched two so far and my wife isn't impressed and thinks it's childish. I agreed with her on the first episode. The second, I thought the plot around the two leads was a bit naff, especially as the pair of them just seem to give up, get changed and sit and eat breakfast.

For both season most of the broad humour is in the first two episodes, after that it settles down quite a bit / vanishes almost entirely in season 2

Just started watching The Orville myself, after it being so recommended here. Only watched the first 3 episodes and I would say the third was the worst offender for childish humour. The episode itself was mostly enjoyable, but it was the one that felt like it was trying the most to be a comedy. It even has a character having a dramatic change of heart that is central to plot through a joke. Don't know about what comes after, but I'm thinking it probably isn't a great one to make decision on the comedic tone if what others have said is accurate.

Yeah skip episode three, watch four instead. It feels like a classic trek episode, actually brilliant. I recommend watching three at some point though as it's the beginning of a continuing B plot. But don't watch it next if it's make or break for the show, it's quite boring. It doesn't matter what order you watch these earlier episodes in anyway, in fact the order in which the network chose to air the show is different to what Seth wanted iirc. As noted here: www.reddit.com/r/TheOrville/comments/add4xa/psa_if_you_just_started_to_watch_the_orville/

Back on Enterprise the admiral’s uniform makes it look like he’s wearing a tracksuit top over his shirt and tie and it never looks right.

Admirals in Star Trek almost always have shit uniforms. That's probably why they're always pissed off when they come on board a starship and start dicking about with everything.

So in my Trek rewatch I came across "The Outcast" which we'd been talking about earlier. Reading a review and comments, I stumbled over this little detail: in the script, there are these few lines of dialogue: These lines were cut from the final episode while the rest of the conversation remained intact. I think this episode and its background really highlight the issues classic Trek has with LGBTQ+. You have an episode that is clearly an allegory for the oppression of "deviants" in real-world heteronormative society and tries to make a passionate case for the victims. The biggest issue here is the hypocrisy that this is a franchise that is so utterly heteronormative, it has at this point (1992) refused to even acknowledge the existence of homosexuals. Turns out the writer spelt it out just to be sure the message is understood, the main cast actor involved pushed for being a little "bolder" with what they'd show on screen, but someone in charge decided against the male actor and that the message can't be explicit, because they want to play everything super safe (as has been claimed) and/or because they're downright homophobic (as has also been claimed). And when classic Trek ended in 2005, it still hadn't acknowledged the existence of homosexuals outside of the mirror universe.

That’s a great post on The Outcast. Its kind of remarkable how tiny changes in casting and the script turn it from a thoughtful LGBTQ+ parable into something closer to Rikrr having Kirk-like sexual magnetism.
I think Stigma the Enterprise episode I mentioned suffers similarly with all the talk of a deviant minority and their filthy practices spreading a shameful disease, and the idea that T’pol is clean because she got it from an assault not wilful engagement.

Yeah that episode has all sorts of issues which show just how badly out of touch they were. There's also the thing with T'Pol's "coming out". She has made it very clear that she doesn't want to even if it means the end of her career. T'Pol making this choice shows just how much she really means it. And then the other guy "outs" her in front of the council, and she's got this "DUDE WTF" look on her face. And later Archer, in a classic display of his empathetic skills--apparently trying to cheer her up--smiles at her and says "you know, I'm kinda glad he did, because now I can keep you on the Enterprise". As she looks at him with her trademark frozen look, in my headcanon she's thinking "glad you're happy... asshole."

Mayweather's actor is so bad, every line he has makes me laugh. Yoshi was bad at first but has got a lot better. Maybe the writing for her has got better too, she was very annoying in s1
T'Pol... Well... I feel bad for her character but I always got the feeling that the actress wasn't hired for the right er... reasons. Well pbviously. But it's confusing sometimes I can't tell if she's brilliantly playing a young Vulcan battling with emotional control or is just an adult entertainer. :/

I’ve just watched Bounty so she’s been horny, underdressed and covered in glistening gel for 40 minutes.
Her character has really come into her own this season too so a real shame to be reduced to that with two episodes to go.
