I found the start of ENT to be terrible in that regard. Leering letches that was never a thing in earlier series. Maybe they were supposed to be more primitive? youtu.be/BXdu6C3Qoro

What's up with season 2 of Star Trek ENT, boring as hell so far. Funny as season 1 wasn't so bad and season I remember 3and especially 4 being quite good

Finally watching the Orville now it is on Disney. It is fantastic isn't it? Episode 6 could have gone straight into TNG or DS9 with just name changes.
Who knew that star trek would become a bit pooh, while a comedian makes a fan show that has all the heart and soul of classic trek? I can't imagine Discovery or Picard pulling off the lines like "they aren't my enemy." "They are now."

There are some that aren’t just like TNG/DS9/VOY episodes, they’d be very highly rated ones

Watched a trailer for the first series and it just looks like an obnoxious US comedy. Is it not representative of the show?

It is at first. It's that awful cringey try hard humour. Fortunately it subsides quickly and it finds a balance that works, especially in season 2. It is actually laugh out loud funny sometimes though, I won't spoil it. But there is an episode where a crew member grows a moustache and starts smoking that still makes me laugh just thinking about it.

Watched a trailer for the first series and it just looks like an obnoxious US comedy. Is it not representative of the show? The first episode is kind of like that, then very quickly it goes from looking like a parody of Trek to a loving homage that knows how silly Trek is to having some episodes of straightforward classic Trek

The silliness is part of what makes it enjoyable. The conversation between Bashir and O'Brain in the shuttle on the way down to the planet in The Storyteller did a good job of endearing him to me a bit. Then there's the scene where someone literally tries to stab O'Brian in the back with a knife but then, after a struggle to disarm him, they have a sit down with him to discuss how they can help him lead his village. About that attempted murder...
Progress OTOH, is a very good episode for Kira

If it helps it shares writers, directors, producers and cast members with TNG, DS9 and Voyager. Its not Family Guy in space or anything.

In my head McFarlane had to sell it to the network as Family Guy in space, and he gave them that for the trailer and the first few episodes and then did his own (very good) thing.
It's unfortunate that for British viewers of a certain age, 'The Orville' is that adorable puppet that wishesd he could fly! 😉
Anyway between The Orville and Lower Decks we're in a good time to be a Trek fan!

Brannon Braga helps write/produce/direct Jonathan Frakes directs Tom Paris directs Cassidy Yates is a regular cast member Plus guest spots from Troi, Tuvok, The Doctor, Doctor Phlox, and a bunch of guys who played various aliens along the way And the regular crew really work as a Trek cast. Its clearly made with a lot of love.

Some on the net kept on saying the Orville was parody/satire of ST but its really not. the 1st episode did put some off with its "family guy" humour (not its really FG at all)

It's weird, the bit of banter and humour make it more relatable than classic trek. Like on TNG, everyone was a bit too perfect.

Yeah, TNG characters often feel more like ideals than actual people, at least early on. What's also grating me during my current TNG rewatch how full it is of itself about humanity being so great and advanced, our heroes flying around the galaxy to condescend to lesser cultures and rub their noses in our moral superiority. I think one of the things that makes Q likeable is that he calls BS on that.

I think the Enterprise crew are starting to warm on me even of only four of them have personalities.
They do spend a lot of time showering and decontaminating though

She definitely has a personality. It can easily be missed because she's not the most extroverted person in the galaxy

Episode name: "Violations". Forgot what episode that was, but first thought: Troi episode. Yep. edit: about Nemesis. I'll add spoiler tags even though I discourage anyone from watching it. So, Troi is mind-raped by Shinzon for no other plot purpose than to make Shinzon more hateable or something. And then she asks Picard if she can take a day off, and Picard is like "nope". Am I too cynical in suspecting that this has something to do with Berman or other execs being vindictive about Marina Sirtis demanding equal pay? (they threatened to replace her with Jeri Ryan, but Ryan refused so in the end they paid Sirtis what she demanded).

Speaking of violation
Enterprise Stigma, sequel to an episode where T’pol gets mind-raped, is just the most clunking AIDS allegory

If I remember rightly, don't they do a story with T'Pol being unable to control her emotions? I recall thinking that it was either a clever bit of long form storytelling or a retcon to explain why the actor playing T'Pol wasn't very good at being emotionless.
Vulcans were treated like shit by Enterprise. They were shown as treating humans like children and unfairly, even though they were mostly in the right.

Yeah, rewatching this I'm beginning to understand the Vulcan's opposition to Archer being the Captain. He's so reckless lol he can be kindhearted but he's mostly a dickhead.

I quite like the portrayal of the Vulcans in this. It keeps them just alien enough while remaining familiar.
Plus they’d largely retreated from being an active force in the quadrant in the three TNG period shows so its nice to see them taking part.
