Five of us went out this morning and got just north of Tewkesbury to find a load of police cars, a road closed and an air ambulance landing. Cyclist hit by a car and killed outright. I honestly think it’s the way I’m probably going to go.

Out here cycling in Girona. Any last minute recommendations? Rocacorba Thursday. Did Els Engels yesterday and Sant Hilari today.
Spotted a number of full kit wankers but ya never know if they are legit: old(er) dude in loose fitting Arkea Samsic must be iffy.
Had dinner at El Celler de Can Roca this evening: been waiting two years for this rearranged date. 🫣

Good luck riding around tomorrow without having “M-M-M-My Girona!” stuck in your head

M-M-M-M- Mo-therfucker? Might help shift that earworm a bit and use the ire at elstoff to get up some steep climbs? Thinking on it might help you tap out that cadence.

I'm enjoying midgy spawning season. I must have ate about 6lb of them when I was out yesterday.

First day back cycling to work after a loooooong time. Less than an hour cycling and already had a back and forth with an aggro bus driver who was shouting at a woman for cycling in the middle of the road ahead of a right turn at a crossroads. Tbf, also witnessed 20+ cyclists dicing with death whizzing over red lights at junctions. So much aggression for 3 minutes of life. What is the deal with this? I reckon I see about 5 cyclists a day just happily going through red lights as if they don’t apply to them. Is it legal?

No, it's not legal. All cyclists are expected to follow the usual rules of the road. Too many are arseholes though.
As a cyclist it really pisses me off to see them doing that, or going the wrong way up a one-way street, or worse, on pavements (ok if they're young while parents are walking). Unless it's a cyclepath, get off the fucking pavement, it's for pedestrians!

Yeah, my heart sinks a bit when i see cyclists coasting through a red light- its just fuel for a certain type of motorist’s fire, and no different to them parking across bike lanes, etc.

Anyone got any experience on getting back on the bike after a bout of Covid? Had covid a couple of weeks a go and and its fucked me over a little bit since. Been back at work a week and I've been generally ok, in the mornings in particular I'm short of breath and breathing isn't great but it does get a little easier as the day goes on, even If I do feel tired around 2.30pm But I been out on two relatively easy walks since and both times have fucked me over, especially yesterday where I felt rather ill afterwards. Which I don't get as I'm pretty much on my feet all day at work.
Didn't go out this Sunday as chest was pretty raw. I don't know whether just to go out and try a 10 mile ride or something (and take it easy), or just wait it out a little bit till I feel right.

I’d say go easier than you think, and give more rest than usual. Took me ages to get back into exercise, I’d try going as hard as I used then I’d be wiped out for weeks after

Which I don't get as I'm pretty much on my feet all day at work. Take care & don't overdo it. Someone at our work is signed off for two months after trying to soldier on after having 'funny turns' like this- walking (not overly far either) they were also then feeling sick/dizzy. It's probable long covid for them, but trying to plough on as usual after covid for a few months has really knocked them back and lead to them being igned off. Definitely take it easy and don't rush back into over-exertion.

Chap at work with long covid, he got an e-bike, normal biking even on the flat was just too much. Do not push yourself in anyway if in doubt, pootle along the canal for a bit or whatever, talking sub 100w for 15-30 min type efforts.

Agree with the above- follow a few ‘tubers who’ve all said their coaches said do nothing at all while you’ve got it and then get back into it very easily.

Thanks guys. Much appreciated. Yeah I think i might just do gentle efforts (like just turning the legs over) on the trainer for a while and go from there. . Problem where I live is that it’s just hills so any ride will be harder on the lungs than a gentle bimble.

Is it easy enough to wrap handlebars? Got a pretty bad scuff from a fall.

Easy to do, it’s wrapping a matching pair and getting it neat and tidy with no gaps around the shifters that can be a headache. Plenty of videos online

Best just to stick with black? I kind of want to change it to white but I imagine it gets filthy pretty quick.

I have white bar tape on all my bikes*, the worst part is being questioned about how quickly it gets dirty or comments about being brave. It goes a bit grey after a year or two, I’d rather see the dirt and know when to change white tape than wonder what horrors are lurking unseen on the 5 year old black tape
*because I’m a big old tart who likes white shoes, saddle and bar tape

Any particular brands to look out for or is it all just the same stuff?

There’s various thicknesses, I prefer thicker cork style tape over the thin ones, bulks out the bar and gives more cushioning. I buy Ritchey tape, but all the cork style are pretty similar. Cinelli do one for about a tenner. Lizardskins are always recommended, they’re more durable I think but too thin for me

Lizardskins do some thicker stuff, but I can never find it in stock in decent colours, always the bright green or whatever. Using some cheap stuff off Wiggle which does the job, Lifeline professional or such, but it's two tone and getting the colours to swap over at the hoods was incredibly annoying, I would not do that again. If you are a massive tart and made of money I think Supacaz stuff gets good reviews.

Big fan of Supacaz but wait to find it on offer. Cushioned, and still grippy when wet. Also got the two tone Lifeline Professional stuff on my CX bike and it’s really impressive for the cost. Like white tape, but, depending on gloves, never last long. Mines currently smeared with glove-palm-grey all over the top and it won’t come off.
