I was doing the longer ToW stage today after doing the short one on an evening last week. I was into the last 9k and just about at top of the last climb (volcano) and the power went upstairs due to a plasterer we have in for some work getting some damp on a circuit.
I feel cheated! 😀
Hope it hasn't fucked my wattbike.

Nice. Got out on the sunny days this week for workouts, and out again tomorrow morning for the first cafe ride of the year. Leg warmers and long sleeves for me though.

Today was not one of those days. Even needed the insulated gilet and gloves!

Back to long sleeves and gloves, wonderfully sunny though. Still in shorts, the guns are starting to look all carved up again so the public need to see them

I'm out on Wednesday for only the second time this year. Looking forward to having to break my arse in again.

I did the local “Cotswold Cross” yesterday, 75k, 1700 meters climbing and, fucking hell, was it hard. Ride offroad less these days and your whole body gets more fatigued, but it wasn’t that- I was a burning leg mess from the very first climb and then constantly had to tell myself I wasn’t getting off and pushing on every hill. Never felt that bad before on a ride- it was like how you feel at the end of a massive day but at the bloody start. And have no explanation for it as I tapered a bit and fuelled up the day before as usual.

Yeah, it's easy to forget just how much getting bashed around takes out of you.

Shit. Was originally planning on doing some riding in New Jersey when I go in a couple of weeks, but I've realised that I'm not going to be able to get my bike to the airport (three people in the car instead of the usual two). Can't find anywhere that'll rent me a bike either, seems a lot of places stopped due to COVID. Supposedly there's a Peloton where I'm going but to use it I'm going to need to buy shoes (I don't ride clipped normally).

I’m fairly hard on equipment off road but I surpassed myself this weekend- first ride on my new Hunt Four Season wheels, all freshly set up and rolling like a dream. Rocky downhill, enormous dent in the back rim. Liderally about 12k into using them. Have carefully hammered it back out but for fuck’s sake man 😳 Fastest time of the year so far though \o/

The problem with the Peloton is that it's like a fixie. You can't freewheel, so would be very easy to lose a pedal into your shin / calf! I've ordered a set of disco slippers. Annoyingly just after I ordered them I got a 25% off voucher.

Not bad.

Awesome.
My disco slippers are a little tight, width wise, but they don't do a wide version. I guess I'll just have to wear thinner socks (will only be used indoors anyway).

So discovered there's a free Brompton upgrade for the battery clip for my wife's shit electric Brompton, every time you go out on it the battery disconnects a couple of times so you have to pull over and reconnect it - very frustrating, our LBC didn't want to know. But now there's a new modified battery clip that can be changed(which is being done by my LBC next week) which should hopefully solve a lot of the disconnects ....

Doing the Coast to Coast this weekend, to Tynemouth and back again along the Hadrian's Wall route. The met office keep swinging between sunny intervals and sleet, so packing the right gear could be a bit pot luck!!

There’s an instagram post today about Richard Moore, of The Cycling Podcast, who’s died suddenly apparently. Vague about illness or accident. Sad, the books, the journalism- he’s given a lot to cycling.

I hope you don't mind the completely clueless asking for advice in here. Are Giant a decent (road) bike manufacturer? I was planning to buy one via Cycle2Work. I really only cycle in Summer for exercise since I'm WFH but I'm thinking of joining a local cycling club. Open to suggestions if that bike is complete tat though

Giant are one of the biggest manufacturers out there, very good brand. One of the few that actually makes their own frames, as well as for other companies - they started out as a factory.
I’d expect that bike to be at least as good as any other bike available at the same price bracket

Agreed. They lack a tiny bit of brand kudos (and I say that as an owner of Giant CX bike) but you tend to get a tiny bit more for your money with them. Great bikes.

Thanks both. Ended up ordering a more expensive Giant this morning! Should get it in a week or two.

No, Contend AR1.
As soon as I walked out of the bike shop, a pack from the local cycle club flew by shouting at each other. I'm going to take it as a good omen.

Got back from the coast-to-coast-and-back-again last night, what a brilliant ride. We did Solway to halfway across the Pennines on day 1, Tynemouth and back on day 2 and a gentle run back to Carlisle yesterday. 200 miles exactly, plenty of cake and beer, only one puncture between the two of us and it didn't rain once. Perfect!
