I had no idea trainers existed. Can you more knowledgeable peeps recommend a reasonably priced on, say no more than 150 notes (and preferably less). I have one of Evans' entry level road bikes

So I appear to need a training tyre. My Pinnacle Laterite tyres say 25mm, but all I can find are 23mm and 26mm. Will those be ok?

Any width trainer tyre will do, Whatever’s cheapest. If the same go for the 23, less rolling resistance

Anyone signed up for the Tour of Watopia on zwift this year?
Going to be peching my way round it again. At least they gave us a wee break after the Tour de Zwift to let my little leggies recover a bit.

I'll be giving it a crack, thoroughly enjoyed Tour de Zwift. I know they're technically group rides but I really try and push myself to stay with the front groups as much as possible, before getting unceremoniously dropped like a toilet seat that is.
Not looking forward to going up the Alpe again though, urgh!
On a related note, after some spirited racing I've been upgraded to B Cat on ZwiftPower. I've gone from genuine contender in Cat C to trying not to come last in Cat B, the races are absolutely savage.

Did my first ever FTP test yesterday. Really put the Wahoo headwind to the test and it kept me quite dry which I was happy with. What I wasn't happy with was my performance. Only managed to get a FTP of 206 which puts me at 2.51 watts/KG. I suppose the only way is up from here! Going to start the 4 week FTP booster and hope that I can get close to 220-30. I'm really not in a rush to do another test though! Though I was smashing it at first then I saw I had 15 minutes left and the fear set in! Will pace myself better next time!
We're 3 weeks from baby due date and my partner is looking to get back active. She doesn't want to spend more than £1700 but wants to get a road bike. She really likes the Ribble R872 Disc bike in Teal, comes with a Shimano 105 groupset. Before we commit to getting that bike ordered is there anything else we should be looking at for a woman's bike?
There is a planet-X bike for ~£1500 that comes with a SRAM Rival groupset but I've no experience with SRAM other than the groupset I have on my hybrid from back in 2013, so no frame of reference for a road bike really!
Any help would be appreciated!

Really it’s the saddle that’s key for women- they need a wider one because of girly pelvises, arguably slightly narrower bars too. Oh, and apparently bikes ONLY in powder blue and pink.
But any bike that she fancies will do, just, if not woman specific, budget for a new saddle that is too.

20 min tests for testing newbies are hard, you need a good idea of a power you can maintain within a few watts right off the bat. If you take 5 mins to find the right power, then the test is already kind of screwed. You could probably do a ramp test tomorrow and get a more accurate number if you want, or give it a week and if the hard sessions are not feeling hard enough then re-test.

Yeah, ramp tests are better, at least when starting out.

Posting here because I don't even know what to Google yet:
My "front derallier"* is 1) Clipping the chain 2) barely responding to the gear control (massive amount of play at the handlebars before there's any movement at the crank)
I've had a look and all I can see initially is a cable adjustment/tighten which I really don't want to do. Any ideas? I can take pics if needed *I know this is probably the wrong, badly spelt term

Did my first 100, or 107km cycle today. It took us a lot longer than it should've as one of the people I cycled with hasn't cycled in a few months so after about 40k he was buggered and it brought the pace down a lot, which probably helped me as I was able to go at a slower pace than I would've done myself so I ended the ride feeling pretty good.
Went to the Ribble store this afternoon and got my partner measured up on the Ribble. She was really happy with how the rig felt so will order it in the next few days. Should arrive by August and hopefully by then she'll be ready to start picking up a bit of cycling and the baby should be OK with being left with my mum doing grandmother duties to allow us to go out on rides for a few hours.
I'll definitely be trying the ramp test next time. Going to start the 4 week builder course on Monday and see how I get on. If I can jump from 206 up to 230/240 I'll be really happy

My "front derallier"* is 1) Clipping the chain 2) barely responding to the gear control (massive amount of play at the handlebars before there's any movement at the crank) Sounds like you haven't got much tension in the cable, with no tension the derailleur will spring back towards the frame, you need tension to move it outwards. If you have some barrel adjusters in the cable somewhere you could try those, but they won't make up a huge difference, so you may have to just unclamp the cable and try again. Don't worry it's a pretty simple task.

Freezing ride at 1 degree and drizzle this morning. Needed to go out as have a sportive type-a thing next weekend. Started to have shifting issues on the way back, couldn’t get into the lower half of the block, then the rear mech exploded on a climb. Literally sheared in two at the thickest bit, mech hangar totally fine, weird. Coldest half an hour of my life waiting to be picked up 🥶

Oof. Not fine.
It was glorious up here too, a relatively toasty 9 C & warmer in the sun. Thought you southern peeps would have had a nice day too!

First proper length session on the trainer today since my last bout of COVID. Hopefully I can keep it up without the insane exhaustion I've been having previously.

Same here, sunny outside this weekend so went for a quick spin to visit a mate. Decided to stay for dinner. Didn't anticipate the temperature drop, so that was a freezing and dark evening ride back. Luckily had drank enough wine to see me through, like a real pro. I now have a massive cold.

It's that time of year where it looks glorious outside but is actually still quite cold. I wore my thinner leg warmers and socks on Saturday and regretted that for most of the journey as it wasn't as warm as I had anticipated.

I doubt I'll be heading outdoors for at least a month, but I'm hoping when I get there I can actually get up hills again. My only Christmas ride was properly depressing as I struggled to do anything more than a false flat.

A tepid 60k this morning shot my legs by the end, need to lose some weight and get a bit of strength back. Still, that’s 100k for the week so far, after only 500 this year and a very shit second half of 2021

I'm a solid 8kg over where I'd like to be right now. Struggling to lose the weight though as I usually do it via exercise, and I'm doing nothing like I was.
Doubt I could eat much less without having to be insanely obsessive about it. Just need to get back to doing more.

Yikes, haven’t got as much as 8kg to lose fortunately, but I do need to drop a good 2 or 3 before I get back to those halcyon days of summers past

Putting on those currently feels like (how I imagine) a large breasted woman trying to get into a particularly tight top.
Just have to keep pouring in my curves and slowly zipping. lol

I thought I'd try Alpe d'zwift this morning. I was humbled and it was much harder than I thought it would be. Wanted to do it under 90 minutes and just made it at 88:24. I could've maybe shed a minute or two off of it had I got out the saddle more but not much more than that.
I thought I was getting on OK with this cycling stuff, this made me realise I have a lot to learn!
