They still got time then. It has 7/10 all over it. I think some people will get really into it but from what I played 70 quid felt like a pisstake. Gamepass would be its perfect home.

£54 at argos. With my nectar points I could get it for £40.
Would like to see some uncut gameplay footage. Just one mission from start to end.

Sounds like review codes are going to be in reviewer's hands at the same time everybody who paid for early access gets in. Utter bullshit.

Maybe WB just got fed up with 80% of them ignoring Hogwarts?
See this sitting in the low 60s.
Game size is only 45GB

That's hardly a good sign, previews must have worried them.

Being charitable you could say that because it's an online title the servers wouldn't have been up and running so there was no point in providing reviewers keys before hand.
However that ignores that there were preview events and there was the closed test that regular people accessed as well that must have had servers to run on so why they couldn't have spun up test servers for reviewers to play the game on or by now the live servers should be up and running already anyway so it's not like they'll be switching them on once it hits midnight on early release date in New Zealand.
Not every game that doesn't put out review codes before release day is bad (Doom 2016 is a notable one) but for something with this game's reputation it's certainly raising the red (not Rick) flag.

Pretty certain in the case of DOOM, that was because no early review codes was a Bethesda policy. An awful policy, but it was the same for all games they published, so couldn't really be used as a judgement on individual game. I assume that isn't the same for WB, so they have made a decision on this particular game to not send it out to reviewers before the game is in the hands of people. As you say, definitely a red flag.

I think they've been worried since the first reveal at the State of Play presentation last year. Ha, that's fair. But I think with the delay they thought they could at least put a positive spin on things. Don't know what they did in that year mind, but it's very rare you see a AAA title preview badly at major gaming media sites. If the full game really is just not much more than what was in the Alpha then I'll understand the game and its existence far less than I already do.

I very much doubt the reviews are going to sway most people at this point regardless - you know if you’re interested or not already. This is just another thing to beat them with.

So IGN has pissed off a major publisher by speaking truth to power, and has effectively been blacklisted by said publisher (at least, where the game in question is concerned)?
We really are living in the end times.

IT'S DRIV3R ALL OVER AGAIN!
Seriously though this will bring the worst kind of publicity on themselves through the sheer Streisand Effect of it all. Someone in PR has definitely fucked up there. However I can seem them definitely relying on influencers and content creators more than anything who don't really have anything to say apart from "OMG this is so sick" "so cool guys" and will play it no further than what their sponsorship entails.

Driv3r being mentioned reminded me of one of the dumbest things to have happened in that pretty broken game, I finally completed a mission that had been giving me trouble in it and decided I'd watch the replay to see it passively. The game's replay system actually replays the mission again with what you did but for some reason something changed and my successful mission actually failed. Oh well never mind it obviously would set the completion flag as soon as I had done it myself. Er no. The mission replay meant I failed it and would have to do it again... What a complete load of bollocks, I'm not sure I played it again after that.
Anyhow Driver: San Francisco was my GOTY of 2011, so the series didn't end with that shit show for me.

Now I'm thinking of Kane and Lynch with all this nonsense and tbf it wasn't even that bad if you take into account the era of 3rd person shooters that it was released in. I really don't understand why the PR division of publishers do this as the damage always seems to overshadow the need for for first day sales.

I understood that reference...
... Because I went and looked it up at Wikipedia!
Man, that's some sketchy shit. Didn't WB try something similar 10 years ago with Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor?
(This particular instance is likely due to incompetence, rather than malice - still kind of a needless own-goal, though.)

There are some people who do like the Kane & Lynch games of course, me for example!
I've no idea why the first one got shat on so hard from some members of the gaming press. The second is one of the most grimy, horrible games that's not a horror title and I thought it was great.

I can only surmise that is was released after OG Gears which did change how 3rd person shooters were perceived and in some part it shared a lot of DNA with PS2 era 3rd person games. The overhyping definitely did it no favours. I saw it as a AA game and I was ok with that. Kane and Lynch 2 was overly oppressive though with little redeeming factors to it imo.
