The most obvious one seems to be that everyone just has a gun and shoots things. Yes that was the biggest one, having played it I did notice that each character has specific guns, for example Captain Boomerang starts with a shotgun as a primary and sniper rifle as secondary compared to King Shark being an assault rifle and mini gun user. I thought that those weapon types were tied to characters. No they are not which made it all pointless.

You'd think at least the melee stuff would make them feel different. Big bulky King Shark should be packing a bigger punch than Harley Quinn, surely? But nah, not much. There are small differences but not enough to make them feel unique. Even the special skills that use the meter you charge up aren't super interesting and were really buggy in the alpha.

Outside the game - does anybody give that much of a shit about the Suicide Squad in general?
Or were/are DC expecting it to catch on to the mainstream a bit more like GOTG did?

Shillup has put up his video and makes a good point about how generic the weapons are, its standard sniper rifle, shotgun etc. Its not just a problem with this game but most games, you can design anything for a lot of games and they end up with the standard crap. Even that naff magic shooting game EA published, the magic you fire is just machine gun and shotgun like bullets

Before the first movie, it seemed like something that could be pretty huge. The idea of a bunch of crazy anti-heroes would definitely appeal to that teenage boy demographic who are into Batman, Joker, Deadpool etc...
But the first movie killed a lot of the appeal imho.
The story and cutscenes look good, but probably I'll just watch them on youtube, and even then I'll probably be thinking that I should just watch Harley Quinn if I want Harley / King Shark banter.

Oh yeah, Poison Ivy, famously known for her axes.
It's hard for me to square how a team with so much pedigree in making genre-defining action games, is now stuck trying to make a Destiny clone. I know Redfall happened last year too, but still... how did anyone think this was a good idea.

I'm sure the real story will come out how the devs didn't want to make this but WB wanted this live service (before the avengers game died and shit the bed)
I wonder if some marketing agency (that works with the publishers) will reach out to streamers/influnecers to shiil promote the game like they did with the avengers game? When that game released there was a lot of comments on forums saying "how much of blast they were having" (with all the same talking points abouit "haters" hate train, combat is meaty")
Lets hope SS: KtJL does not kill the studio, one big failure can lead to massive job cuts as the high ups go back to their coke and yachts

Luke stephens has a good video about the end game after completing the story and the high profile streamers the company paid for where not impressed with the endgame stuff (Live service games tend a good end game missions for it to keep players)

Can't see this as being anything but Rocksteady's downfall.

Can't see this as bring anything but Rocksteady's downfall. [br I hope it doesn't tbh. They're a great studio and it would be fucking shit if there were any cuts to them because of one game. But I also understand how they haven't produced anything for around 7-8 years so there's a lot riding on this.

I don't know really, but the OG founders left last year and made their own studio and have a taken around 50 people from Rocksteady apparently I believe they were the most experienced people.

A Destiny clone almost killed Bioware (and it's not like they recovered from it yet), let's hope another Destiny clone doesn't kill Rocksteady. The Destiny formula seems really hard to get right. The Division did okay but neither did it make much of a splash. Even Bungie, who's been the top dog for 10 years, has had problems managing the game since the start and seems to be in trouble lately.

Division did just fine as did the second. Still have a healthy player count and div 2 has been getting updates until recently. Main difference is ubi didn't go all in on it being a life replacement with constant paid expansions and that's a good thing I think. Destiny have pushed it too far and seem to be drawing a blank on any creativity now and charging top money for very little return.

I was bummed when they announced their next project would be suicide squad (like honestly who gives a fuck about the majority of DC properties, let alone this garbage fire which I had close to zero knowledge of back then). Every piece of news and update since then has been more depressing than the last. Executive decisions so dumb it almost makes my blood boil. Take the studio who made 3 of the best ever superhero completely single player games and get them to tackle... this? Such a shame, like others have said, hopefully they can survive and maybe we'll see an interesting rocksteady project sometime after 2030

I like the idea but the execution isn't looking strong so far. At least with Gotham Knights it felt differently depending on who you played as but these all still look identical.

I don't really care to much about the characters playing similarly, as I'm likely only ever going to play one and not switch between them anyway (though I recognise it's a bigger issue for the gameplay on the whole, it just won't particularly affect me specifically). It's the really basic gameplay design that looks bad - the 'stand in this area and defeat waves of goons' stuff that really shouldn't be the basis for an action title.
I'm interested in the story though, so I'll play through it at some point. I still need to play Arkham Knight, so it won't be for a while.

The main vibe I get from this game is they probably started with the end result of stupid loot and stat bullshit and worked backward instead of prioritising something worthy first

Not sure I really get the reverence for Rocksteady. The Arkham games were great and really nailed being Batman but basically each follow-up took the same formula and added moar stuff. While it would be a shame, it shouldn't be a big surprise if they turn out to be a one trick pony. They're not some storied developer with a long history like Bioware.

It's a pity they didn't get a team working on doing more with VR, Batman Arkham VR is a great title but it doesn't have any longevity.
If you want to really feel like Batman you need to play it.

I'll probably end up buying this. I really didn't like the alpha at all but I almost take it as a personal insult someone actually made a game I found so utterly joyless. The story was borderline playable so I still think there's fun somewhere in there, and I'll find it. I will not be beaten!
Yes, I know that's the worst reason to buy a game anyone has ever given, but I didn't get where I am in life making wise purchasing decisions.

I can sympathise with such non-promises; I usually crack myself on similar situations (the latest Assassin's Creed springs to mind, which I purchased on release and have yet to fire it up).
However, in this game, the only thing that looks interesting (to me at least) is the storytelling/the cutscenes, so, this time I hope I'll hold the fort

I'll just wait six months till it's on Game Pass, install the entire 150gb or whatever it'll be, play it exactly once and then delete it.
