Holy shit… the monster Hunter show on anime is brutal.
Makes me want to play monster Hunter again though.
Edit: apparently it’s not a show but a movie.

"Legends of the Guild" ? Hahah, the poster I just searched is all kinds of wrong with strange CGI puppet people.
But it also has a minigun.
No idea this was even a thing, but it can't be worse than the film ? Right ?

Well, that CGI-fest was terrible enough, never mind the voice "acting". Using the MH language and being a bit more visual with the cues would've improved it tenfold.
And as Grax says, it's pretty nasty for the kiddy tone it's aiming for. Spoilers: Luna cares not about innocent villagers.

How much downtime/grinding is there in Rise?
I think the main draw for me is spending 4 hours designing my dog and cat and then there's some hunting monsters stuff
Is playing with the bow solo viable? I like bows

There always grinding in MH...
I've not played bow at all in Rise, but the games have always seemed well balanced, so I don't see why not.
I tried LS for the first time and got quite in to it. Plus LBG and dual blades. Oh, and Lance of course.

How does ammo work for the bow (only had a quick go so far)? Are there special arrows you need to buy/craft?

You can always shoot normal arrows, but you can apply coatings, which are limited, to get statuses etc. Most of the time you'll just run Power Coating. You can buy most of them, with an option to craft them |

Has anyone else played it? There's a multiplayer element that I've had no exposure to .

MH Stories - it's a RPG with Monster Hunter flavour, rather than a Monster Hunter RPG. I'm not sure that's clear. If you hate turn based RPG then you won't like it. There is the usual weapon triangle, like in Fire Emblem - Speed beats Power, Power beats Technical, Technical beats Speed. You can charge up attacks and also do paired attacks for MASSIVE DAMAGE!!!!!!1 It's full of your favourite monsters, which are both enemies to be defeated and can also be your friendly sidekick, which may seem odd when you think how they love to bathe you in flame/ice/slime etc in MHW. The gene system for powering up your monstie is somewhat deep and a little confusing. I suspect if I researched into it more I would get it, but it feels like a step too far just now. Possibly for end-game play and fighting other players it's what you need. Overall I've enjoyed it.  |

My main complaint is that Kayna isn't in the game for long enough..

Think the Switch-gang all jumped over to Rise sharpish. After 1400+ hours and no Switch, I needed a break.

Anyone still playing MH:World? Or was it entirely taken over by Rise? As osso says, a lot of us moved to Rise. I didn't 'complete' Iceborne, so I could be tempted back. I never managed to beat Alatreon, and I have many crowns left to harvest. |

I'd be too embarrassed to play around other people at the moment. Been playing around in the first couple of quests and the controls are starting to become second nature now. Those mushrooms are really hard to find!

Been playing some more of this and I like it. Just finished up the 2* quests so pretty easy but enjoying it. Having fun with the bow so haven't tried any other weapons yet; only just discovered you can follow up a normal attack with a couple of rapid attacks by pressing A. Forgot how to do the arch shot - actually I've only done it once by accident. Should probably do the bow tutorial stage really. Also haven't done much with the wirebug apart from traversing about the map so plenty left to discover
It looks really good on the Switch too!
Wish you could turn off the massive subtitles in the cutscenes but I've already turned them off in the options and they're still there, and massive

Get used to the wirebug, it's integral to this game. Mushrooms etc (for quests) will be green dots on the mini map, often up high somewhere (wirebug time!). Some of the wirebug attacks are really strong too.
My friend code is in an earlier post if you want a hunting buddy at some point
