What an innings though. Always looked way too much. Yeah, we needed that partnership to last another 50 runs to win it I think.

Yeah, get within 30 and it may have been a different story. I didn't watch deliberately, didn't want to jinx it.

Some of the responses to the Bairstow stumping are a bit pearl-clutchy, but it's a bit shit that it robbed us of what would probably have been a very close finish.

I... may have stayed up to watch the end. I'm sorry it turned out that way, I really thought Stokes could have pulled you out of the fire again.
The run-out was shit, but it's good that your tail is starting to wag. If it had wagged in the first innings too, you probably would have won. :/

a) It wasn't cheating. It was bad etiquette, but not cheating b) It was probably bad etiquette to, for example, bowl short balls at Nathan Lyon when he had an injured leg and literally could not get out of the way. That's not the same level of poor form, but I do get a bit sick of the "oh those disgusting cheating Aussies" talk, as if we are the only team that ever acts a bit dodgy, outside "the spirit of cricket". You bastards invented Bodyline c) You can be mad about Bairstow, but you didn't lose because of it. The run-out contributed, but it was one factor among many. You also might have won if, for example, your entire tail didn't fall over in the first innings swatting at short balls. So talk about that too, and also talk about the times you got lucky, like with Starc's disallowed catch earlier on Anyway, I'm sorry you lost, on balance I think you deserved to win that game. But let go of the bitterness, THAT'S NOT BAZBALL

If only they would stop *actually cheating*, they might lose the cheating Aussie narrative - you know, whenever they are caught actually cheating.

If only they would stop *actually cheating*, they might lose the cheating Aussie narrative - you know, whenever they are caught actually cheating. Has anything happened since the ball tampering scandal that multiple people got suspended/lost their jobs over? That was in 2018, so 5 years ago. Actual cheating. Not "spirit" cheating, like a batsman not walking when he knows he's out, or whatever you're most concerned about. I don't recall anything, but maybe I'm wrong. Like, I agree with you that this should not have been done, Bairstow should have been warned at the very least before getting stumped, like what was supposed to happen before Mankading someone. But you're being a bit over-the-top about it imo. It's far from the first time that a batsman has been punished for repeatedly wandering out of their crease.

Anyway, I'm sorry you lost, on balance I think you deserved to win that game. But let go of the bitterness, THAT'S NOT BAZBALL Nah, it was the first test we should have won... that was the killer. And I'm talking about the balance of the match over all days not just the final session, we dominated most sessions in that match. I'm still hurting badly from that test. This test you completely deserved to win, we were poor from the get go with the ball under very favourable bowling conditions and it never really improved from there. It was only another near miracle from Stokes that nearly got us there.

England aren't losing the ashes because of the stumping, it's because they have insisted on playing attacking cricket when the situation requires patience. It irks because the games are close and competitive without people needing to resort to seemingly cheap tactics. It all adds to the drama. I have no problem giving the Aussies gip for the ball tampering, that's just part of the fun but throwing in casual racism re criminality etc is unnecessary.

Good result afaic, I despise this country so much I've switched to Australia.
Here a bouncer, there a yorker, every ball a real corker. Etc.

This whole thing is just stupid. How many times have you seen a keeper have a quick throw at the stumps after a bowl? Happens all the time. Even Bairstow himself tried it in this test a day earlier. It's a longshot but keepers occasionally give it go. Worked out for Carey yesterday, fair play.

Yeah, all teams have done a variation on this, the indignation is misplaced. I didn't agree with it at the time but in the cold light of day they are all at it.
If the top order had contributed more and if they had not batted like numptys in the first innings they wouldn't have had to worry about it.

Can well imagine the UK press this morning if it was the other way around. 'Whining Aussies Don't Know The Rules!', 'What A Bunch Of Wallabies!!', 'Skippy Off Home If You Don't Like It!!!', and an article by Michael Atherton on how cheating undermines sport.

Fair play on Carey, as others have said they all try it.
The appeal and celebration were cringe-worthy though. Hardly the pinnacle of the battle between bat and ball. The Aussies deserved to win and probably would have done so anyway, but I wouldn't want to win like that.

I just needed to get it out of my system. Of course it was within the rules. But they are still a bunch of cnts. I hope the Leeds crowd are absolutely relentless. First day is going to be _spicy_

The Mankad in the India-England Womens ODI recently was fucking shitty, but at least you could argue the batter is gaining an advantage by walking out of their crease. Bairstow was gaining absolutely nothing.
