Rockstar operate almost entirely independently under the Take Two umbrella. How much freedom are they allotted? Almost complete freedom 'creatively'. I'm guessing they tow the line on high end corporate matters but it's a very self contained operation. It really all went that way when EA were trying to buy them maybe 15+ yrs ago or so. My guess is that autonomy was built into the deal to keep them at T2 and certainly for the time I was there that was the case. When I first joined it was a general testing studio for all branches but quickly became dedicated to R* only and branded as such. (This is Rockstar Lincoln I'm talking about btw not the whole company) I can't imagine this hasn't been signed off by a high level producer, and that the defects are not known about. But the producer has probably not played it themselves only skimmed reports made by intermediaries. The testing entity has no control over what is thought to be acceptable, they report problems, a decision is made on whether they are fixed or 'waived'. I ran the test on RDR (Redemption 1 not Revolver) amongst other titles and at no point was QA allowed or invited to give an opinion on quality... I got my testers to provide mission by mission feedback along with overall thoughts on making the game as good as possible. I collated it into a 60 page report that was sent around the company. It was lauded as a valuable insight. They were not expecting it and some pretty high up people thanked me. They ignored it ultimately despite being a hugely invested source of feedback. A free focus group, which is something I don't think they have ever really used.

Given MS may have paid quite a lot to put SA this in Gamepass, I wonder if they will have any leverage on patches.

Rockstar Lincoln as well - my sympathies. Please tell me that when you left Rockstar you left that worthless shithole too.

I'd assumed it was internal. Would still expect them to sign-off the final versions though, being as it's their legacy. From GSG website "With a history spanning over a decade, Grove Street Games has grown to be a leader in the industry by taking smart risks" - what was the smart risk here? I’m guessing PJ did the graphics and Duncan had the audio After the paintball incident too, it seems.

MysteryLamb - definitely spill the beans. We're all obviously interested and it sounds like you need to get it off your chest. Might be worth making a new thread for it, but don't think anybody would mind it going here either.

The AI upscaler is amazing.
Leaving it to AI destroys the original artwork. It's higher res but all the detail is lost

Did Rockstar and CD Projekt have a bet to see who could destroy their reputation the most?

Now I wouldn't mind seeing AI upscalers turned loose on the source code for various PS2 games.
I'm just curious to see what sort of 'improvements' the algorithm comes up with, maybe this is the future of ports and game preservation, where popular games get torn down and rebuilt again and again until they're a Ship of Theseus with little of the original left.

Did Rockstar and CD Projekt have a bet to see who could destroy their reputation the most? Do you think this will damage or impact GTA 6 sales in any way?

I think it'll probably be cancelled now and Rockstar will likely go bust.

They are kind of like valve now, I suppose. They run the worlds largest online casino so they don’t have to give a fuck anymore.

Bethesda the same. I love Fallout 76 but it feels like it has about 4 devs working on it. Everything from updates being released by mistake to spelling errors in item descriptions, as well as all the usual things flying up in the air run-of-the-mill Bethesda bugs and jank. 4 desultory updates a year with a few hours of not atall great missions to run through. This for an apparently key frontline IP, from a company apparently worth $7.5 billion.

I think the issue with Bethesda is more the fact that a majority of their staff have been there for an extraordinary amount of time which most likely has led to a lot of stagnation with no fresh ideas.

I was playing Skyrim a bit yesterday to have a look at the next gen upgrade. Crazy that it's the last genuinely good game they made. 10 years old now.

Fallout 4 and 76 both looked more dated at launch than Skyrim ever has
