Is Portal something they are going to be continually updating and expanding moving forwards?
It all looks a bit barebones and budget at the moment in the videos I’ve seen.

Playing about with Portal and there's so many options to tinker with even before getting into the game logic side of things. Hopefully DICE will be adding more maps over time. |

Mine is already pre-loaded on xbox. had a few multi-gig updates this week.
Not sure, but hope I might be able to play a bit this weekend if i can, but am up to the eyeballs at work and will be in both days at the w/end, so likely to frazzled to play too much.
May have to make do with some more relaxing pootling about in FH5 instead and wait for the 'proper' release date. Hopefully, all the server woes will be over by then.

I’m confused. Can you actually play this right now? I boot it up and the game starts but can’t connect. Have the servers just given up or am I early. Tomorrow (UK) but that's early access which applies to the gold and ultimate editions only. Gamepass members also get a free 10 hour preview starting tomorrow. Standard edition doesn't unlock until next week. I play the various editions of Battlefield more than anything else, but I'm struggling to justify paying £80+ to play it early, especially when servers are notoriously utter potato at launch. |

So I’ve been playing it now. A bug messed up the servers apparently. It’s got great moments and there is a lot to take in. Specialists increasingly look like they are not necessary. They look good on paper and in the load out screen but in play not so much. But it’s too soon to make judgements. The biggest bug that annoys me is I’m not getting XP right now. That better be recorded server side and it gets put on retrospectively. I imagine it would. Graphics vary between wow and wut? It’s battlefield and it’s buggy. What’s new?  EDIT: Oh yeah and they have removed the ballistic shield from the Dozer specialist temporarily. I believe it was deflecting Tank Shells! Doh.. |

Played it for a chunk of tonight and it just seems kinda bad.
The new maps are some of the most uninspiring BF maps I’ve seen. Some are also waaaaay too big, even for 128 players. The new specialists are also so pointless and unnecessary.
Portal seems like a great idea, but in practice just comes across as a ropey, barebones knock-off of the games it’s emulating.
Got a few hours left to see if it can somehow win me over, but that trial has definitely saved me some cash so far.

Travelling today so will only get a chance to jump on this evening. Really hoping performance isn't as fucked as it was on the beta.
On the plus side, almost everyone seems to be saying that the Orbital map that was available for the play test is by far the worst of the lot, so hopefully the others are much more fun.
Specialists, as expected, going down like a lead balloon.

Looking forward to trying this later on. Impressions seem mostly positive across the internet. Seems like they got a solid foundation to build upon. Think it will just take a while to people to get accustomed to the larger maps and the array of different specialists so I can see games playing out quite different in a month or so time.

I've got the 10 hour trial thing right now, so I'm not overly invested - just disappointed. The maps seem really sparse and garbage, and huge segments feel really empty even with a full server. I've always really fucking loved the series so right now I'm just a bit..  And the specialist thing is just stupid as fuck. |

For me they've been getting progressively worse since BC2 so it's no great surprise that this is underwhelming. Shame though, it looked great when it was first revealed.

I fucked around for a while and got my fps to be 'okay' (still shit but liveable) but the server itself must run at something like 16 tick. They should never have gone for this 128 player bullshit, there isn't an aspect of the game that doesn't suffer because of it. All its done is made me want to play any BF pre I/V. Also I think it's probably just because of where I am (Aus), but there's only 1 64 player portal server, the rest are 128 player garbage rulesets or XP farms. |

Yeah it's a mixed bag at the moment. I've had some fun moments but the new maps feel very empty and lack any of the natural flow of a good BF map.
I'm glad to have it for the new experience it offers, but also glad I still have BF4 installed for a proper fix this weekend.

I like the attachment system. Holding down T+1 to quickly switch between scopes for different engagement ranges feels really neat.

I've just had a few hours on PC and I really like it! Granted it's my first time playing an FPS on PC in a Very Long Time, but it looks amazing and runs pretty well for me (I'm happy with 60fps though, I'm not gunning for muchh higher). I think it's quite pretty with the ray-traced ambient occlusion on, and I've had an absolute blast. I've played some Bad Company 2 rush (which looks stunning on Arica Harbor), some BF1942 Conquest and some 2042 conquest. Really digging it!

The fans on my desktop are really kicking in whilst playing.
Think I defaulted to High on 4k, bumped it down but never got a chance to try it as the servers are now down.

Only had time for one game but it’s solid so far. Looks great and performance is fine (PS5) and gunplay is decent. Gonna take a while to get used to the bigger maps. There’s no real chance of moving between A,B,C etc its very much a choice of jumping into a sector and fighting locally, but once you settle in for the fight in that sector it’s a lot of fun. There’s no real chance of one squad (or person) getting a sector, have to two or three squad it. It’s quite a change.
Honesty I think it’s gonna take a while for people to get used to it, it’s quite a drastic shakeup.
