Meh, my telly is also in full view (albeit on the side) and I briefly worried about that. Until I felt sorry for those without a big fuck off screen and sound system. Films and games must be really shit.

I have shutters don't you know. Not spoiling those lines with curtains too.

I absolutely hated the fact our old house had one of those typical Islington semi-basement kitchens with a light well in front, just a constant procession of rubber neckers looking down to watch you eat your fish fingers, chips and beans every night. The shutters were those solid ones so you had the choice of no natural light at all, or being gawked at like a zoo exhibit

We've got those blinds that fit in the window frame, they don't really block any light but enough that it's not an issue with most programmes. I keep them closed most of the time - I know what outside looks like, I don't need to see it all day. We also have blackout curtains that I can pull if I particuarly want to sit in the dark/for a more cosy look in the evening/watch a particularly dark film, although to be honest I can rarely be bothered to get up and close them so tend to watch anything that needs me to at night when I can just tell alexa to turn the lights off.

We've got light linen ish roller blinds on living room windows - they let all/most light in, but don't really give much view inside.

I've got a 55" set that I'm itching to upgrade to an OLED now that they've matured a bit and screen burn isn't really a concern. The sitting room is such a shit layout/we've got too much furniture so it can only realistically go against one wall that's in full view of anybody walking past, and even that 55" looks like some oversized chav monstrosity compared to the size of the house. So upsizing is out of the question and I might even have to go for a smaller model I don't particularly want to move house just so that I can get a bigger TV... First world problems. Bezels are smaller so screen is bigger. Stay with the 55” and it’ll still feel like an upgrade for size without actually increasing any.

The biggest issue for me on the GX was the auto-dimming of dark content, which we've discussed at length previously. I bought a service remote and turned it off entirely. I also bought the service remote. Definitely worth it, but the auto-dimming is extremely badly implemented and shouldn't be an issue in the first place. Agreed. It’s fixed on the 3 series this year, but the Samsung QD-OLEDs do it instead.

I didn't think anyone would beet the offer RS were doing last week pre BF when I got my S90C, but John Lewis have knocked an extra £100 off that already amazing deal. If signing up to My John Lewis they knock £200 off, then do the Samsung redemption for another £200 cash back. That brings the 65" down to £1300 which is bonkers. 6 months free Disney+ and a half price soundbar too if you are in the market for one. A week in and I am loving mine. We've been watching Star Trek: Strange New Worlds on 4K BR and it looks utterly staggering - the colour (and smoothness of gradients) and clarity is insane. The motion is generally excellent. We watched Isle of Dogs yesterday which showed up the 24fps judder/stutter on a couple of scenes, and was more noticeable than on my QLED, but it was rare and overall the picture was incredible. I'm also having a couple of issues with audio passthrough getting a little confused - it seems not to pass the right info to the amp every time, so it doesn't switch to the right settings. Simple to fix using my amps remote each time but would like it to be automatic so more experimenting needed (but not when my partner is in the room, she thinks I'm going mad and it's all fine). Overall though I'm delighted with the purchase, and it's an even better deal today - for anyone who may have been thinking about a Black Friday deal I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

Factor in a service remote to turn off the ABL too Great value on the S90C generally though. I wish the QD-OLEDs went to bigger sizes.

Certainly not noticed the ABL being an issue yet - is there a good film or episode of a show for testing/revealing it?

Re: 24fps judder, I've been experiencing this occasionally on my LG C2 watching the Mandalorian and Boba Fett on Disney+. Assuming that's what it is - it's only sometimes on some fast movement scenes where there's a noticeable frame rate stutter effect.
Using Cinema or Cinema Home mode and I think I left it with the default 'Cinematic Smoothing' which usually looks good and no uncanny valley effect.
Not been deep into the settings much - is there a better setting to stop that happening?
Where it's available I prefer Film Maker mode but you can't select that on content that uses Dolby Vision. I'd heard that LG were going to update Film Maker to use DV but it hasn't happened yet.

The default LG Trumotion smoothing is fucking hideous, never use it, but whatever it sets as standard on Cinema mode has looked fairly 'natural' most of the time so I hadn't touched it...

I can't vouch for its effectiveness yet but apparently turning on 'Real Cinema' under Clarity removes 24fps judder.

Certainly not noticed the ABL being an issue yet - is there a good film or episode of a show for testing/revealing it? Anything dark for prolonged scenes. "The Haunting of ..." Shows on Netflix, certain episodes of GoT and HotD, and some scenes in some movies. Once it happens you'll know, as you won't be able to see shit until there's a significant change of brightness in a scene, or you press a button on the remote. I wouldn't bother looking for it, it'll only annoy you. LG and Sony have both fixed it on their OLEDs, it's only Samsung where it remains now unfortunately.

Got permission from the lady to go ahead on the 85” Sony X95L mini-LED this evening. Was a shoot out between that set, the 83” Sony A80L WOLED and the 98” TCL C955. Only problem is that they all sold out from the two chains with stock due to Black Friday prices!

Films and games must be really shit. This. I don't want a quaint dolly-filled drawing room to sip tea in, I want a garish temple of audio-visual extremity. I got a 48" C2. My viewing distance is about 2m and I thought anything larger would be overkill, but as soon as got the telly home I realised that 55" or even 60" would've been fine. Oh well, when I next move the 48" can become the bedroom TV. Moral of the story: get the biggest fucking telly you can afford and accommodate If you or any family members are wussy enough to worry about it dominating the room you might need a massive sound system to drown out the silly thoughts.

I'm not convinced it will stay as it will be obscene but I bought it on an extended open purchase so I have until Jan 10th to make up my mind.

Is 4K good enough on a 98" TV? Would you not need 8K?

4k from streaming works fine at 120 inch diagonal from my projector!
If you can do it in your room, a big TV is better than the projection cos you will get better blacks, and you don't need to have the windows blacked out and the room painted black!!!!

It depends on the viewing distance, but I would suspect it's fine. Digital cinema projectors are only 4K and at times I can "see" the pixels but it's only onscreen text really where it is an issue.
I used to use a 1080p projector, on a 110" screen and sit closer than you would (relatively to size) in the cinema. That had the advantage of focus controls though so a tiny bit of blur could be added to smooth the image out, but it looked amazing to me.

THX recommended viewing distance on a 98” screen is 11 feet, which is about my current viewing distance from my 77”. New apartment so it will vary a little but 11 feet should be easy.
More concerned with how ridiculous it’s going to look on the wall.

I have two brackets available. One’s an arm, which is my preference, and the other is a stationary hanging bracket. I need to check the stud positions in the wall when I get the keys on Friday, and depending on placement I’ll pick up which ever bracket is most sensible.
Nothing wrong with wall-mounting large tvs though. I won’t use legs on low units as I have a center speaker that I need to sit below it (though I may be giving up the 5.1.4 surround in favour of a Sonos set-up too. It’s all change right now).

Can’t deal with wall mounted TVs, too high. Give me a headache craning my neck up to see it
