Still seems fine on my 2019. Perhaps a bit slower to start but reluctant to use anything else as it just complicates things, for my daughter especially. You have any issues with playback on the Apple TV app? Stuttering and getting out of synch. And if so, a solution other than either skipping back 10 secs or turning everything off at the wall to clear the cache? Doesn't get out of synch if left alone but perhaps is a pain if you've rewound it, now you mention it. Nothing major but then I don't use it a lot (have stopped +, so just films I've bought on it now)

Just me then, comes and goes but once it starts it’s a right pain. I went for the B model, on the basis the screen/panel was the same but the processor was the older model and was a few hundred quid cheaper. Guess I’m getting what I paid for now

Talked about getting one next year on prev page. Thinking I’ll probably go for the apple one. Without looking I know it’ll be overpriced, but should work well for longer

Anybody know why apparently there's some kind of exodus from AVS Forum?

My LG CX has a few dead pixels along the top edge. They are generally unnoticeable apart from one, which is a cluster of 5 or 6 dead pixels, which I think might be growing because it's becoming easier to spot.
I bought it November 2020 from John Lewis and it came with the 5 year JL guarantee, but this doesn't cover dead pixels, apparently.
Does anyone know what my real world options are, and how this would likely pan out if I contacted JL or LG about a replacement panel or TV?
I definitely can't be arsed to repackage the TV to send it off. I still have the box, but I remember how specifically it all had to be packaged... I'll never get it back in. The box may not even be structurally sound as I've been forced to keep it in my damp cellar.

There's no harm in contacting them to see what they say. Assume.youve forced a pixel refresh?

Yeah the full pixel refresher ran recently after 2000 hours. I'll just contact JL and see what they say.
Just didn't want to get into a situation that's more trouble than it's worth to sort out, or where I'm without a TV for Starfield.

Are the dead pixels black or white?
If they're white, they may actually be stuck pixels which you may be able to manipulate away by gently massaging the screen around them.
I thought this was a myth but it's genuinely worked for me once or twice now.

They're all black unfortunately, although I suppose it means they're less visible.

Do all OLED TVs have an element of banding (epecially noticable on panning shots) or have I just got really bad luck? My last few tvs have been an LG and now I've got a Sony (bought last year) but both have noticable vetical lines.

I've had 2 OLEDs so far, none had banding. Both had pretty great uniformity actually, luck of the draw probably, as I don't think LG uses less uniform panels on their entry models.

Not seen any banding on my Sony OLED, uniformity is excellent.

Just noticed half a dozen dead pixels too on my C9. Quite isolated and not really noticeable, but still annoying.

Just dug out my decades old amp, 5.1 crappy speakers, PS4 and 1080p projector. 120" screen, Alien Isolation, surround sound in darkness. Only played for 10 mins, new underwear will be needed. Looking to improve on every piece of tech soon.

It's amazing how well some old tech will hold up. A mate of mine is still using one of the last Panasonic home cinema projectors (I think over 10 years old) and it still throws a lovely picture even onto a plain wall. It's not much use in the day, but at night it's great.
I've got an even older one and despite needing a new bulb it still manages a so-so picture.
Amps and speakers last a very long time too. I'm still using the speakers I bought in 1999. I did replace the sub for something more substantial, but when I have been to demo replacements for the main 5 I've needed to be getting into very large sums (at least for me) to hear a noticeable difference.

Agreed! I think this (Scan AV6) is 20 years old! The volume dial is shot, but it works with the remote fine. Optical only though, hence the PS4 need! I've wired for 7.2.4 eventually, but was itching to just get something rudimentary up and running!

That'll be amazing once you finish at all, and very sensible starting with the wiring. Hope to be out of the flat sooner than later and back into a house. I want a spare room or garage I can use and finally get the cinema room I have always wanted.
My Yamaha DSP-A2 (also bought 1999) still works fine, except a couple of the analogue ins can be a bit hit and miss. It got replaced with another Yamaha (for HDMI switching convenience), then a Denon (for 4K passthrough and Atoms), but for actual sound quality in passthrough 5.1 it's as good as either of those.

I think I'll upgrade my 15 year old Optoma 720p to one of those ultra short throw efforts (quasi-4k) once the renovations are complete. Probably only 100" or the projector will be too far out into the room, defeating the purpose.

My last few tvs have been an LG and now I've got a Sony (bought last year) but both have noticable vetical lines. My original two OLEDs (B7 and B9) both developed vertical lines. The B7 was classic vertical banding where, like you, panning shots made it visible (plainly the red subpixels were the culprit), and the B9 was a one pixel wide white line running from top to bottom. I've replaced them both now but the B7 did got noticeably better over time. The B9 white line came and went randomly but it was unbearable for me. I ended up flogging them for a few hundred quid each. Last I heard the B7 is now a security camera monitor in a guard station somewhere. My C1 and C2 have been bulletproof so far /knocks wood

Each was a noticeable step up from the last, not just with resolution but the light output too. Still got them all in the loft, but in this flat no way of easily setting them up and I can't mount up a proper screen. I had looked at a UST just on a wall, but I see rainbows on single DLP chip projectors (badly) and only recently have rainbow-less ones come out, but AFAIK the only real option is still an Epson LS800 which is £3K+ and not true 4K

I still believe that the vast majority of people, with a <£1000 amp and <£2000 speakers, won't hear any difference between bog-standard 5.1 Dolby and True HD with modern sources in a traditional surround setup. If you add height speakers, there's obviously a new dimension (literally), but other that that…

A lot of it is only as good as the source too.

Slightly random, but it annoys me that I can't turn off the 'trending' feature on my LG C2. I paid over $2000 for this TV, doesn't that buy me the option to turn off what is, to my mind, essentially advertising? I don't have half the streaming services it pushes.

Not exactly sure what the 'trending' section is, and not sure if this applies to the C2, but on my CX you can revert to the old app switcher by changing the setting... Settings > General > Home Settings > Home screen style > Basic You still get some recommended shows when hovering certain apps, but it's far less intrusive than the new app switcher.

It doesn't seem to have that option on the C2, or at least I'm too thick to find it. Thanks though. In a Karen moment I sent an email to the CEO of LG NZ so presumably they'll sort it out for me.

I think the CX is the last model that didn't have the new style as standard, so when they updated it this year they kept the option to disable it. From the C2 onwards it's the only option.
