You would hope they fix the performance issues before they release this physical copy. But I guess we'll see.

Quite. It's crazy that they never learned from Cyberpunk and hyped this up only to release it with so many issues.

The PC version actually runs worse than Cyberpunk, it's weird. My pc is decent, mid range, and can run 2077 fairly smoothly with settings fairly high, including Ray Tracing etc. But turn on Ray Tracing here and it just chugs along, with frame pacing issues to boot.

Have you tried capping the frame rate with an external tool? I seem to recall that I had horrendous frame pacing issues in W3 (original, no RT) using the in-game limiter, but uncapping it and using Riva Tuner for a frame rate limit fixed it. It's been a while though, so I'm not 100% sure anymore.

I haven't tried that, in all honesty the game still looks pretty good even with vanilla lighting, and there have been a few other smaller improvements so it's still better than it was.
I get a pretty solid 144fps with RT turned off, only really drop frames in Novigrad or other dense areas, it drops down to a third that as soon as I turn the effects on, it's mad.

The only thing I'm aiming for on my new playthrough is all the Gwent cards.
I'm fully expecting to make a wrong dialogue choice, or do a mission in the "wrong" order, and end up missing a single card.
I'm using the guide on vg247 and trying to manually save infrequently, so I've got a decent paper trail if something goes wrong.

Apparently the patch shouldn't be too long and is almost done.

Just got to Skellige and I'm starting to wain a bit. Went for the Triss romance this time. I know Yennifer is more canon to the novels but it's really striking me how much Yenn can use Geralt. Does mean I missed out on the sex on stuffed unicorn though. I could have romanced both and gone for the comedy romance ending but nah. Did do Kiera though. Both she and Triss are in Kaer Mohren now so I like to imagine awkward conservations. I had no idea who Yen was when Triss was hanging around early in the game, nor did I have any idea that there was any kind of "big choice" going on, so I got the slut-shame ending.

The first quest is all about finding Yennefer, and you do meet her early on.
But yeah, I did the man whore storyline too.

I’ve only finished it once and had the Yen End, but I’m not not sure (even if I ever finish another play) that I could go a different way. Yennefer is clearly the canon ending.

I think I'd met Keira, which is where I realised this game had awkward sexy times scenes, then Triss and then quite a bit later Yen pops up and is mad at me for something. So I was like fine I'll sex you too.

I’m up to Novigrad, where I’ve traditionally bounced off the game in the past - like, a dozen times maybe. It was years before I got beyond it and finished the game, but I love the whole White Orchard and Velen sections.
The PS5 version puts a whole new perspective on it though. When those six quest markers for Broken Flowers came up I went ugh, as usual, but here’s the thing. Remove the twin embuggerances of Novigrad’s terrible frame rate and the game’s interminable load times, and I find I’m engaging much more with the actual game. Playing on Death March for the first time too, because the risk of getting killed doesn’t mean a two minute wait.

Finished the main game, now onto try the expansions.
I can't really afford the Runewright start up costs though, so I'll sack that off for now. I should have taken the fucking money from Emhyr.

What did you spend it all on?
I finished the main game with like 50k. After spending loads on getting mastercrafted armour and that.

I just don't seem to have made much. I have been quite bad at just hoarding shit. I guess I should sell stuff. I sell any magic quality items (or less) but I have been dumping any organs swords in my stash. Not sure why, just like having a collection. I've also not really sold much junk.

Yeah, I’m terrible at selling shit in RPGs too. Especially if it looks like rare special named equipment. It drags me down until I can crawl my way to town and stuff it in my stash chest.

Sell your books to the bookshop guy in novigrad, your swords to a master swordsman, your armour to a master armourer etc. Always negotiate up your contracts, never say you can keep their money, loot at every possible opportunity but make sure you don't get caught, flip the crap as soon as you can. Bet on yourself as much and as high as possible to win fights or races.

I'll have a look when I next play...
Thinking about it, it did seem expensive that the trip to Skellige basically wiped out the money I had at the time (though you can get it back straight after the voyage.
Knowing that I'm broke due to me being me, rather than by design, also makes Emhyr's monetary rewards seem less impressive.

I started selling my junk. Selling most of the books and Scrolls and maybe a quarter of the weapons in my stash I earned 7k, more than double what I initially had.
Now I need to wait for the merchants gold to reset.
I might get to 25k or so easily. I could start selling the crafting materials I don't need, but as I still have most crafting to do I don't want to sell stuff I later need.

It really should be 10 times bigger to tempt people to accept it. Otherwise it's lol. Puny worthless cash I liked how in tw1 you were perpetually broke unless you did some serious grinding. Anytime you get some money it's off to the shops to buy those books or finally can upgrade my sword! Each coin mattered.

I didn’t really find much to spend serious money on in Witcher 3, beyond some recipes.
Games like this need a “Someday…” sword or armour set in a shop you’ll want to come back for. Or property to buy or improve. Could have been a whole monetary quest line to fix up and invest in Dandelion’s bar after the vagrants are cleared out.

That's the one upside to my terrible hoarding and my lack of oversight, I guess, because I *did* feel perpetually broke. The 1k to Skellige was most of my money at that point, and Emhyr's reward would have increased my money by 50%. If you want that feeling, just don't sell anything 😅

Patch out. Addresses RT performance on console apparently. Apparently it's next to useless on PC. Still tanking massively in Novigrad on the beefiest of machines.

Shame. Seems to be taking a while for them to fix this. I had a brief look on the PS5 but as I was out in the wilderness I couldn't properly stress test it. Spent 5 mins pissing about though and it was a definite improvement on PS5 so it's actually an option (so long as it doesn't tank in Novigrad etc) for me to play with RT on now, as it really looks so lovely with it.
