I particularly like how one of the $6 million stretch goals was to include 100 star systems.
$440 million and 8 years later, they don't even have one completed one.

Still can't get over the fan event name of CitizenCon. It's TOO on the nose.

Anyway, I'd like to know where all that money is really going. It sounds like a scam, but I'm still going to give them the benefit of doubt, and just assume that the leaders are grossly incompetent at planning rather than actively malicious. They have something like 600 employees in various offices around the world, so their workforce bill is significant every single month and is going to chew through large amounts of the ongoing cash stream. Throw in the costs of renting the offices etc etc. I don't think Roberts is secretly sitting on a massive pot of gold. What he is doing is wasting a lot of time (and therefore money) by constantly moving the development goalposts rather than concentrating on getting to actual launch. I think the accusations of it being a ponzi scheme/scam etc are in poor faith. I'm sure Roberts and everybody else involved actually want to launch the game, but they're feeding a monster. The marketing brings in more money, which funds development, which allows Roberts to keep fiddling. What really needs to happen is the money tap turns off so they need to actually launch a product, or Roberts steps back and allows others to project manage and deliver. Presumably you mean bad faith? Poor faith isn't really a thing in English. And no, it's not in bad faith, I can say that with confidence. Bad faith would require not believing it,and it's silly to even think people don't believe it. And CS is, as a matter of fact, something somewhat close to a Ponzi scheme at this point. Not identical but related. According to CIG themselves, they've basically spent the vast majority of the money and they're nowhere near finished or even, say, halfway there. So they clearly don't, by their own admission, have the money remaining to complete the project if the income stops. Given the vast staff, high apparent salaries for the execs, refusal to curb scope and so on, it's clear they have no plans at all to rectify these issues, so the project is to some extent being held to ransom. Stop paying in more and the game will die in 1-2 years at most - and the game is far more than two years from release. This is fundamentally similar to how Ponzi schemes rely on getting new people in, but here it's more squeezing existing people for cash. There's also a sort of religious elements (often seen in MLM stuff) where people essentially believe their reward will come in time if the just have faith. Even though it doesn't seem like there's any terribly rational reason to believe that.

The difference between a ponzi scheme and what they have going is that in a ponzi scheme, your sole incentive of investing is to get money from the rows below you. So members stop providing money once they have bought in. This is not the case here, people invest with a different incentive, and can be milked indefinitely.

Oh good grief:
I am ashamed to say I almost bought into Star Citizen a little while ago, because I thought the Nox anti-gravity bike that can also be used in space was so goddamn slick.
Then I saw the prices they were charging.

My PC is no slouch, in fact it's hovering near top of the range and the performance is horrifying. Everything is a half-baked stab at the outlined goal and the "attention to detail" like those sodding bedsheets is obviously just playing for time while they pillage their zealot fanbase's bank accounts.
Glad I only put 20 quid into it. Never going to give them a penny more, it's not even worth that.

The whole thing just strikes me as unnecessary though? I mean, they said it's for NPC crew in the single player Squadron 42, so that when they adhere to their schedule on board ship, you can see them enter and exit their beds, or when they are roused in an emergency... Surely if they'e required to be in a state of combat readiness, why not just have them sleep in alcove bunks without sheets?
They're on a fucking space vessel for fucks' sake, it's not as if this isn't going to be a temperature controlled environment, so why would they need to pull up the covers to keep from getting chilly?

Wait a sec. You're getting simmered about comfort levels? The whole point is they're adding bullshit that doesn't matter to a game that has no content in order to keep having people pay thousands of dollars for buggy ships that explode when you look at them.

I find it hard to sleep without something over me, even if it's hot. It's a comfort thing
After years of people in video games just sleeping on top of the bed, this would be quite cool in isolation

How have they not burnt through that money already? I feel like it must just be an elaborate ponzy scheme at this point.

Looking forward to when a player finally finds the crypto money pyramid at the centre of this game universe.
Or 2036 when the final build Single Player Campaign (Squadron 42) is one of the launch games for PS7 on the packaged PSVR3 system with a special edition helmet yours for only £3.5k with an exclusive in game player skin, sonic screwdriver and cyberdog pet called George. Digi download via headset retina scan only. Strictly redeemable by 2040 otherwise the headset will self destruct. Nothing spectacular mind just a small crackling noise and a puff of smoke. Save the volumetric for the beta final version rush release.

The Squadron 42 progress update they just showed off looks pretty nice (apart from the dead, dead eyes of your character)

Yeah that looks good. Here's to hoping it's not just bullshots and the final thing is decent.

Squadron 42 is all I backed the game for, so hopefully it will be decent... I never particularly cared about the mumtiplayer stuff...
