I wished Kaito Files had came out standalone to be honest. It was quite decently sized contentwise too.
I am pretty confident Gaiden should be good enough and have ordered the physical from Japan.

I don't think that 'thrown together' is a fair assessment. This is a studio which has a long, proven record of working quickly and efficiently, and there are no new major locations which would ordinarily take a long time to generate. In the same interview he says there's four hours of cutscenes, so while it won't be as long as a main game there'll still be plenty to be getting on with. They've also held up their end of the bargain in terms of the additional side stories and extra activities to make it worth a release, even at the lower price.
Kaito Files as a story was some of the best stuff they've done, so it being an evolution of a DLC isn't necessarily a mark against it for quality either.

Pretty solid reviews for Gaiden - 8 from Push Square and GameSpot, 7 from IGN - if anyone's interested.

Was always gonna be shorter than a mainline game, especially eith it being download only, the price and with Yakuza 8 in Jan.

Glad its getting good reviews as really want to play it (I do wonder if there will be polygon/EG backlash/hate over the fmv clips)

Preload is up and it's a 65 gig download on Steam, saying it requires 85 gigs of space. There sure is a lot of 'stuff' in there, likely boosted by the FMV cabaret girls.

Couple of hours in I’m enjoying it a lot. The fighting is loads of fun, you start off already feeling strong and the plot is already going at a good speed.
Only disappointment so far is that Daytona, I mean Sega Racing Classic 2, only seems to have the Dennis St. James vocals so no Mitsuyoshi. You can see why though - he immediately sings “Daytona” in the attract mode.
Tech-wise, the new HDR mode does seem to crush shadows a bit but adjusting the brightness makes things better. DLSS seems to have a broken sharpness slider but Intel XESS looks mostly fine so use that instead if you’re on nVidia. I’ve not tried it on Deck yet either.

Runs nicely on Deck too - quick run around Sotenbori has it holding 40 pretty well in the settings it defaults to, which are medium detail plus FSR quality. I think Sotenbori is probably a lighter area than Yokohama but it's a good sign; it almost feels like it's been tuned for the Deck by someone in the team.

Chapter 1 was so over so quick
I am enjoying it, lot more fun than ishin (dragon engine is so much better than porting it to the unreal 4 like they did with ishin)

I did expect the EG review to be very pissed off with the fmv
I am finding helping people for akame points boring as its beat up thugs or some lazy arse wants food. Akame has side missions, fnished the red peacock one (just fights) and started one with a returning character from one of the earlier games

didn't know "yongyea" is going to be voice actor for kiryu, who's balls did he have to gargle to get that job
He is not good at voice acting espciallly as kiryu (his YT content is easy to avoid, not that is any good, is just another low quality YT person reacting to news stories)
like a dragon/yakuza 7 had good english voice acting overall but will be keeping japanese voice acting for new game

Problem with his voice is that it very much sounds like a younger man putting on an older man's voice, if that makes sense. It kinda just sounds like him and he sounds dull as fuck anyway. The one they had for 7, who was the original voice actor for Kiryu in 1, sounded way better if you do the comparison. Anyway, congrats to YongYea for voicing a character that 99% of the audience is going to listen to in Japanese anyway.
Started Gaiden last night, combat seems pretty OK, the spider web thing is as busted as you'd expect. Mid air juggling an enemy looks really really dumb lol Mind you I havent unlocked the Yakuza fighting style yet, spent a lot of time playing the "Sega Classic Racing 2" game

He does sound like a younger man putting on an older man's voice but he does not have the skill and talent to do older person's voice (like a good voice actor).
I googled Darryl Kurylo, (the original voice actor) I can guess why they didn't want him, does not matter he had done better job. Like 99% of people, people will be having the japanese voice acting for this in. Last game I mixed it up

Fucking hell, if you think the voice acting is bad, the "singing" is even worse
not even going to embed the tweet its that bad
edit: for someone that built his YT channel on criticising developers & publishers (sometimes incredibly minors things) he can't take any criticism (he said on some tweet (apparently) he has been acting longer than his YT "job") wow

Even funnier, he said Chris Pratt should have done a better job as Mario as it sounds just like Chris Pratts speaking voice. Pot, kettle, black

Even funnier, he said Chris Pratt should have done a better job as Mario as it sounds just like Chris Pratts speaking voice. Pot, kettle, black for some reason he went full out attacking him over not just videos but several tweets. I guess he has always seen what way the public view is on something like EA battlefront 2, gollum and king kong game to post his videos but now his on the other end. Turns out he is voiced some charaters in a really bad and broken game called quantum error but no video on that
On chapter 3 of Gaiden now, would of finished it but been doing the side missions, which you need to do get points and money. To get new skills and improve your stats. I don't think a lot of the side missions are as good as past games but the main story is good

Should have my Japanese physical mext week... Won't be testing the English dub (only ever played Y1 dubbed due to lack of choice). Still need to order 8 some time too (and my brain has only now just realised infinity is a sideways 8 for the title...)

I finished this one after 20 hours or so. Thought the main story was really excellent and the ending keeps the promise that the game's premise makes, but as observed above the side story content was a bit weak in general, although I really liked Akame as a character. I loved both combat styles, especially once I'd upgraded the Agent a bit. Brawler style in particular feels like a proper expansion of the previous Dragon Engine Kiryu styles and Agent makes groups of weaker enemies almost Musou-like in how quickly you can dispatch them.
The demo for 8 is interesting; I notice that they seem to have removed the shortcut settings in favour of a style change and other per-character things - hopefully they bring that back, either through another button or something else. Enemies to still seem to move around while you're choosing actions. Everything else seems to be in order though!

Don’t see why it wouldn’t be, it’s clearly running a separate executable but it only runs from the menu, something like the pinball game in the original Judge Eyes.

No idea how people are beating it in 20 hrs. You must be powering through main quest stuff. I'm 10 hrs in and only at start of chapter 2. All the side activities still have a hold over me. I think I'm getting better at mahjong and oicho-kabu, but fuck trying to make sense of shogi.
