Well, that's it for me. I just can't be bothered with BTs anymore. And I was also getting a little tired with those annoying people calling me all the time just to patronize me. Not sure if that's Kojima's style, I haven't played many of his games, but I vaguely remember MGS2 being like that, so maybe?
Anyway, I played for 9 hours, that's a pretty good run. Shame that, in modern games, 9 hours isn't even enough to get you out of the first region and kick the plot into a higher gear.

At least they came in at an acceptable price.

There are very few games that completely hooked me and this was most definitely one that did. For that price is an absolute bargain.

Glad about this - it's an excellent game, and the more people who get to experience it, the better.

There are very few games that completely hooked me and this was most definitely one that did. For that price is an absolute bargain. Did for me too. Built and maintained all the roads offline by myself. Hundreds of deliveries - just driving up and down the roads in my van like Postman Pat. Then abandoned it after the main location was done. Just never got into the story at all and wasn't interested in seeing what happened. Remember a scene with Reedus and the lady in the red dress running along a beach together in slow motion with Bridges all beat to shit after a boss fight that was hilariously stupid looking though
I know Kojima has a reputation for silly stories but I didn't find anything about it even entertaining. Stupid premise, characters, narrative, 'twists' - if they were suppose to be - were seen from a mile off and most character interactions were just weird and awkward (and boring)
I think playing it during lockdown was a big reason why it drew me in so much. It was basically a job. Tried replaying it later and just couldn't get into it again
Building a network of zip lines around the mountains was also all consuming though

Definite kudos on the price, I know it's a 5 years old game now so you wouldn't expect full price but with the likes of Rockstar asking £40 for the 14 year old Red Dead Redemption, my default mode is expecting to be fleeced.

Surprised that it didn't leak.

It's a game I very much wanted to like, after spending a lot of time in MGSV, but other than the landscapes and the scenery I bounced off it.

Thank you! Bought, can’t believe how easy that was I was jealous of PS players the moment I saw what the Death Stranding gameplay was about, it’s definitely my kind of vibe. And hopefully it will have a critical mass of players so the asynchronous multiplayer stuff (adding to other’s bridges, leaving care packages etc) works just as it did in the original.

Sure I saw it's tied to all the other platforms apart from maybe PS.

I really thought this game looked terrible what I saw of it. Kojima had clearly outdone Sony in the 'walking simulator' genre.
However, 5 years on, lots of people saying its a great game, coupled with a cheap price, and now I am slightly tempted.
Oh what to do....

Also, my top tip. Always check out xbox-now (I am not associated with this site, I just use it cos I like it). There are a few regions you can buy from (like Iceland as mentioned above). The site tells you the prices in all regions and also which region you can easily buy from without VPN and directly through the browser. Link below. www.xbox-now.com/en/game/23398/death-stranding-directors-cut

Sure you could see it as a glorified walking simulator. There is a huge pressure and anxiety, when you are delivering a huge amount. Or something time sensitive, when there are multiple enemies and terrain screwing you over. There isn't another game like it. When you are walking through a massive valley, then the music kicks in.. just absolute gaming joy.

There is also a real sense of community. This isn't someone messing around making big penis signs. Actually helpful ladders, vehicles, zip lines.

Worst thing about Death Stranding is that I saw all the articulated lorries parked up at the bases and thought yeah I'm going to be delivering so much stuff when I get one. Fucking Parcel Force, mate. But no

I did get annoyed a few times by loading a truck, then trying to ram it up a big mountain. COME ON YOU BASTARD. I can't stress how important zip lines are, especially going for the platinum!

It's a bat shit, stupid concept, wtf am I playing kind of game but I absolutely love it for all those reasons.
The locations are stunning, the physics top notch and a very polished, completely bug free game on PS at least.
It's a mixture of strategy for delivering things, utilising trucks, bikes and good old leg power, making the locations more manageable. A bit like snow runner in that respect. A strangely tense game when treading through water with a stupid amount of shit stacked on your back.
It's not for everyone but maybe being a one time van driver irl and a space trucker in many games, it scratched an itch that I really enjoyed.

Hardcore gamers don’t save their games. They see it through to the very end in a single sitting! Saving is for chumps that can’t hack a real challenge.

I'm tempted to pick this up on Series X, having never played it before. Does anyone know if it has HDR on Xbox?

Happy days! Thanks for the confirmation. I'm always disappointed when modern games don't include HDR. Games look dull on an OLED without it.
