Just finished Clarkson's Farm (Amazon Prime). It was well filmed, often funny and we actually learnt a lot from it (like we will never ever be sheep farmers). Clarkson kept his tosserishness mostly under wraps though we saw it emerge a couple of times in the second to last episode. The supporting cast were all good, especially Kaleb who called Clarkson a fucking idiot whenever he needed to.
I'd recommend it. I'd avoided it as I thought it would be more macho bullshit from him or just exploitative crap that he had to do for Amazon, but it was genuinely enjoyable.

Squid game is a weird title but it's explained it the first minute of the program and has some relevance to the show.

I'm also working my way through Ghosts. Started series 2. I like it, and I like Charlotte Ritchie. Is Ghosts family friendly? There don't seem to be many family friendly sitcom type shows these days. Anyways, if you like Charlotte Ritchie you should check out Taskmaster (season 11 I think) and also Feel Good on Channel 4.

There's some basic innuendo, but nothing that a streetwise 10 y/o won't have encountered in the playground. I've seen her in Taskmaster - cute but ineffective. She was also in Fresh Meat.

Friday Night Lights. Whenever I'm ill, I regress and want to watch familiar stuff. Could be specific programmes or genres - typically westerns or war films but am enjoying my 3rd run through of this.

Squid Game sounds interesting. What about the newest season of Sex Education? Is it any good? Can't remember if I liked season 2 or not. I'm nearly finished The Boys rewatch, which is of course a 10/10 show. Have watched first ep of Sex Ed S3. Was good. More of the same, with a few more new characters.

Also The Mash Report is now on Dave Thursday nights as 'The Late Mash'. It's pretty much in-tact but now an hour long (some of that due to ads of course).

Who wouldn’t like Charlotte Ritchie? And the husband from Ghosts is in one of my favourite viral videos and I didn’t even know until his RHLSTP episode laat year.

Particularly enjoyed Desiree's meltdown in the throwing task.

Have heard lots of good things. On the list. First need to get through S2 of The Leftovers before it disappears.

Squid Game (Netflix)
Only 1 episode done but I'm with the consensus, pretty damn good so far. It's Takeshi's Castle meets Battle Royal which is no spoiler for anyone that has seen the 'flix preview or trailer. Lovely use of colour coding too.
I liked the way it focuses on one character during the build up. I hope it's strong enough to introduce more central figures as it goes on, the first ep suggests it intends to try.

I started watching Season 2 of Fort Salem, and quickly realised I'd forgotten what the hell was going on at the end of season one. I think I need to go back and watch the last episode from that first.

Currently watching Y: The Last Man. Disney+.
Yet another show where something has decimated the world's population. Slightly more triggering since we are now living in a post-covid world. But it is interesting and they have picked a bunch of great actresses to lead a vast, where men have been killed off. And there is one last survivor. Who just happens to be a dick.
Worth a watch.

Thought I'd give Happy Valley a go after some high praise round these parts and wow. It is surprisingly brilliant. Grim, funny, heartbreakin g and heartwarming all at the same time. It's a bit like an incredibly English Fargo.

Just finished watching the second episode (four at 90 minutes apiece for season 1) of Lexx and I think I will continue with it. It may not always be straigth-up fun, but I cannot look away so to speak. It's just too weird and interesting.

Where are you watching Lexx?
I only caught bits of it here and there at the time but it left an impression on me of not being like any other scifi on tv

SPOILERS Warning Spoilers for Squid Game is it good? I watched first episode as well and disliked it greatly. The main issue is with the first game as it completely ruined suspense of belief. First game and you lose 80 percent of participants. Such a waste of resources just screams amateur operation and hence the bad guy (so far) who presumably has people above him (bosses or clients or viewers) should resign with disgrace immediately. Especially since the first game removed people on random with survivors being just dumb lucky. It didn't convey any meaning except that organisers are a joke. Other issue is that i feel a little bit uncomfortable at the predatory nature of the games organisers. You are poor, losers, pathetic with no escape from your debts. Go die for our amusement. School kids murdering each other on island, or being taken randomly to alternative tokyo without population works. Targeting poor people as premise just doesn't suit well for me But main issue was the pathetic first game which completely ruined the episode and i lost faith in rest of the series.

It's not *random*: people are told the rules and are punished for breaking them. Maybe they could have been told exactly what the punishment was, but it's not exactly unfair. The whole "fairness" thing is what makes the show kinda interesting imo. I'd watch at least up until the second episode, because it doesn't go quite in the direction you'd expect. It drops off a bit towards the end, but I wouldn't be judging the whole thing from the first episode.

Having finished the whole thing I agree it drops off a bit for a couple of reasons but is still generally great. The amount of casualties from the first game is not a mistake though, they are weeding out the weak. They start off with around 450 and it drops to around 220 contestants, plenty of players left. In fact they deliberately do something in (I think) episode 2 to cull a lot more people. Also, who else but the down trodden would you recruit to a game like this? They all have to sign up for it, wealthy or comfortable folk never would and it also serves to help keep the game under the radar.

4 episodes into Vigil... I absolutely hate it. Everything about it. The entire premise is so contrived. Every character is an absolute arsehole and behaves completely implausibly. There are plot holes left, right and centre. The special effects are dreadful and purely remind you that these people are actors and not on a submarine. There are cliched narrative flashbacks. There are brilliant actors completely wasted. But worst of all, it's just really, really boring. Line of Duty/Bodyguard suffer many of these issues, but at least the outlandish set pieces and twists make for compelling viewing. Every episode of Vigil is basically angry men shouting at a woman.

I wrote a detailed response on my opinion but i think it was too much bitching. Ill check someday second episode and see how it goes.

One episode into Squid Game and I would've happily binged a couple more but got left to my own devices. Started Toast of London and my god it's good! One of those shows that you stick on because you don't want to commit to a single 40-60 minute episode, but end up watching several episodes anyway. Just about to start #4 now. It's quite amusing hearing a forumite's name too ( clemfandango)
