I watched both Get Out and A Quiet Place recently, and was quite underwhelmed. The black servants in Get Out were well acted and creepy, but both movies were pretty lackluster when it comes to story and pacing.

I also found Get Out a little underwhelming, but I though A Quiet Place was one of the best thrillers I've seen in years.
Haven't had the guts to try Quiet Place 2, but mainly because I'm worried it's going to fail to live up to my sky high expectations.

My main problem with A Quiet Place was that the people are so stupid. They do stupid stuff all the time to make the movie more tense. Also the way they explain the echolocation of the hunters is dumb. If the quiet burbling of a river was enough to defeat it, they would never even have approached the cities, and could easily be fooled by some drones with speakers or thousand different ways.

I think those are the kind of things that once you notice them they take you out of the movie and it's very difficult to get back in, but if you don't notice them then they have no impact on your enjoyment. Has happened to me several times with movies that everyone loved, but one little dumb thing took me out of the movie.
I found A Quiet Place to be one of the tensest movies I've ever watched, so I was probably way too into the movie to even notice any of those things.

I’ve been watching World’s Strongest Man. Probably the best TV I’ve watched all year

Got two episodes into Stay Close the new Netflix Harlan Coben adaptation. Its absolutely preposterous and complete trash. Plus its ITV as owt and does the uncanny transatlantic thing that a few Netflix Originals do that I hate.

Just binged 5 eps of Yellowstone and think that will be it. Literally everyone is a murderous, lying, thieving bastard. Kelly Reilly plays an awful character that she must have channelled Satan to get into character. No one to root for, a bunch of baffling character choices and a whole lot of bullshit. I'm not going any further.

Yellowstone is trashy, greatness.
Kelly Reilly is an utter nut job in it.

Currently watching Alice in Borderland, about halfway through.
I think I like it? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I would love a bit of hope in it but it has none. Also zero humour doesn't help. But it has been described as Sopranos on a ranch so if you want some of that then it has it in spades!

First ep of The Tourist (BBC) was excellent. So was the second. A lovely collection of oddball characters; there’s a definite Twin Peaks vibe running through it.

I'm late to the party, but am four episodes into Arcane and really enjoying it. Having never played the game I thought I'd struggle with it, but glad I tried it, was immediately hooked. Superb animation too.
I was an original Dota player but then grew tied of MOBAs, so I missed the LoL zenith really, and with over 140 characters to choose from there is a huge barrier to entry now to me for the game...but I'm tempted, just because of the show.

I don't know how many times I have to say it, but prior League of Legends knowledge is not a prerequisite to enjoying Arcane. You just need to know how basic human emotions work. Never played LoL as my APM can be counted on one hand but the advice given by LoL players to those tempted to start due to the show is always "Don't!". I do play the Legends of Runeterra card game though, so I did have some knowledge going in.

Started Superman & Lois a couple days back and watched a few episodes. Really digging it so far. Nice mixture of small town weirdness/family drama/comic book fun. Think i may end up binging the whole thing.

I wouldn't usually even consider needing prior knowledge to this type of show to start watching, but the thought did cross my my mind when it first released that the lore might be impenetrable and would only be enjoyed by fans. To be fair I didn't let it stop me, just delayed how quickly I gave it a shot. Really glad I did, because as you say you only need to know how basic human emotions work Remembering how baffling Dota 2 felt to me after years away from Dota, I think I will just fight the urge to try LoL. I do not have the time to get up to speed with 140 odd characters, and all the builds, metas etc.

Just watched the first Toast of Tinseltown. Evidently it's reached the point where they can 'get' whoever they want to cameo.
Had a decent amount of laughs, although others mileage may vary. Just Matt Berry reading silly names would be enough for me, they get me every time.

Posted in the other topic - the cameos actually put me off, much in the same way they did with Extras and it becomes "oooh look who we're friends with".
Think the only time I've seen it work is Mark Hammil in Man Down because it was so ridiculously unexpected.
Doesn't help that most of them are on zoom. I've done 3 eps. Don't think I'll bother with the rest.

Just finished the second series of eXcellent-Files (/smug) and they're all in on the aliens stuff now. The episodes without Scully suffered a bit and I know there's a couple of series where she's not in it so hopefully Mulder can carry it on his own
Anyway, watching the episode in series 3 that takes place on death row, the prison warden mentions that they put an ad in the paper for the executioner and pay cash in hand. This is absurd to me; is that still how it's done? The death penalty is nuts anyway and I've never heard a single argument for it that holds any water but if you've got a system that murders people, at least do it yourself. It is literally paying a random to kill another person in cold blood

Anyone watched Station Eleven? looks potentially promising. Was looking forward to it, but I have the book queued up due to recommendations in the book thread, and I don't want to watch the show before reading the book. Bit worried I'm going to do a Shadow & Bone and try watching the show too soon after the book and then just constantly compare everything. It does have Mackenzie Davis and Tank Girl in it though!

I'm really enjoying Ragnarok, there's mediocre stuff in it and cliched characters but I love Magne, the setting and atmosphere.

Really enjoying picking up my X Files rewatch after a break over Christmas.
I’ve never done a full binge of this before so very happy that its even better than I remembered it being. No qualifiers or nostalgia goggles, its just excellent.

Just Matt Berry reading silly names would be enough for me, they get me every time. Watched the first 2 and whilst there are some funny moments, I’m not sure it hits the highs of the first 2 series. Did make me smile re Toast’s constant “I’m here for the new Star Wars movie’ and then hear Matt Berry’s voice in ‘The Book of Boba Fett’! Pretty meta that really… by design or sheer fluke of broadcasting schedules?

Watching Bosch. Got through the first season. Seems quite procedural with a bit of an edge. The acting is good especially The Wire boys.
