How good is this Black Thought & Dangermouse tune I love all three of the album singles. Hopefully the rest of it is as good come August release.

DJ premier's new 6 track ep is out. Solid stuff. I was in gym so only half listening that time but good on the bits I paid attention to. I mean one ep with nas and rtj on can't be too bad.

Because I am old, it takes a long time for new things to filter through to me. But by utter chance, Pete & Bas came up on my timeline. I don't listen to a lot of grime, so had never heard of them. The track starts and you recognise the Roberta Flack sample that the Fugees used in Ready or Not. And it is chopped as well. I'm here for it. But then the Pete and Bas come into focus and you start to think that this must be a joke. One looks like a real life Mr Burns from the Simpsons. The other looks like a wet bandit from Home Alone. The Joe Pesci one. But then they start rapping. AND THEY HAVE BARS! MY GOD! These guys look like they were surviving passengers from the Titanic! They have no business killing this track this hard. But they do. And then on top of all that, the shots fired at the end are just MENTAL!
For those of us that have not seen this, check them out.
And after getting over the shock of So Solid: Saga Lout chapter, I fell down a rabbit hole of reaction videos, just to make sure that I was not the only one feeling bamboozled by what I saw.

Hahah no. I mean I did enjoy watching that so thanks for the link but won't be listening again. Was pretty decent but just a gimmick.

it's a definite gimick, but if it's weirdly engrossing. I really hope they're actually performing - i care less if somebody writes for them tbh - but it's a very good flow.

They perform live on the circuit. They've been to Ibiza, Aya Napa. They have an album. They have guest spots with other artists. When does an oddity like these two stop being a gimmick and become genuine drill artists?

Apropos nothing, my two favourite Xzibit songs. Even mightier than Paparazzi.
Annoyingly not on Spotify. But well worth a listen.

I'm sorry to bring it back to Pete & Bas, but I have been listening to more and more of their stuff. They are awesome.
And they've got M24 to jump on a track with them. And they..., outclassed him!

Was never a fan of mobb deep, maybe three tracks of theirs I liked. Black thoughts album was great, need to go back to it after rinsing it over the first 48 hours.

I guess that is something, but Pete & Bas are better.
This one is also funny.

Fuck.
Outside the world of mainstream hip hop but anyone with even a passing interest in Battle Rap will know of Pat Stay. He was fatally stabbed in an attack this morning.
If you’ve never really got into the battle rap scene Pat is a great place to start. He was an incredible battler. King of the Dot champion for several years, he was one of the few that could crossover to the more hardcore scene in New York and still hold his own. He was a true all rounder. Could be aggressive and talk big or be funny and clever. Seemed like a great guy too. I’m really gutted about this one.
RIP

I hadn’t heard of him before but he’s good isn’t he. RIP.
I’m never sure how I feel about those types of battles, they don’t light my musical fire but they’re fucking funny sometimes. Lunar C just destroys people

I'm a bit of a Loaded Lux stan. Especially the time he battled Calicoe. Grey hoodie Lux FTW. Lux at his best was untouchable but I do prefer the KOTD side of the scene to the Smack/URL one generally. Diz, Pat Stay, Rone etc are my guys. To be honest I think the whole scene has gone a bit stale again. Feels like it needs a bit of reinvention again somehow.

I adopted 'You gon get this work' into many avenues of life. I was actually saying that to my partner last night as I thrashed her at badminton.
He even crossed over well though maybe I love this song more because Redman is on there..
I meant to add to the Black Thought train the other day with 1 of my favourite features and the other is just... well the other is just Black Thought's class shining through.
BT and Rd59 have to be some of the best lyricists around at the moment.

I can't link to a list of these for some reason. If anyone feels like listening to like 60+ hours of good, mostly east coast, mostly fairly recent, somewhat boom bappy / somewhat gangstary, then this may be for you. I've barely heard any of the tunes before Mixcloud --> search "hip hop journal" They're an hour long each, mixed by DJ Stikmand, part of the Brooklyn Radio.. um... collective? Brooklyn Radio put out those Hip Hop History mixes a few years ago, which were fucking amazing Here's an example. Shove this shit up your earholes www.mixcloud.com/brooklynradio/hip-hop-journal-episode-37-w-dj-stikmand/
