Wait, if that wasn’t offside, didn’t the assistant fuck up massively raising the flag?

Case in point, the one time a linesman actually gives the offside early instead of waiting for the play to end is when it might have been a goal for Bayern

The lino flagging there seems very strange, looked probably off but even so.
Oh well, come on Dortmund!

Wait, if that wasn’t offside, didn’t the assistant fuck up massively raising the flag? I also thought ref blew his whistle. Also, thought standard behaviour for assistants was NOT to raise flags until later on in the play? Unless Euro rules are different to Prem?

Wait, if that wasn’t offside, didn’t the assistant fuck up massively raising the flag? Yes. So incompetent as to start to appear to be questionable Though we have some in here who hate the late flag policy because someone might get injured possibly at some point in the future maybe...

Haha. The boy just said "I bet that was Bayern's worst few minutes ever". I suggested he Google the 1999 CL Final!

The late flag policy is stupid, but at least keep it consistently stupid please, don't just forget it when it's convenient...

I wouldn't take it that far, taking Kane off didn't make them lose, but it *did* leave them a bit toothless in the final act...

The amount of situations you would have like tonight if late flagging was discontinued is much worse than the possibility of a potential injury which really just isnt any more of a risk than that which is carried the entire game

The amount of situations you would have like tonight if late flagging was discontinued is much worse than the possibility of a potential injury which really just isnt any more of a risk than that which is carried the entire game Um... I may think it's stupid (mostly because it's a waste of time when it's obvious, not in situations like last night's) but I didn't call for it to stop. Quite the opposite, as long as we're doing it, do it every time. What possible reason could the linesman have to forget it's a thing just then, exactly when it could have changed the result to at least a potential extra time, making them look at best incompetent and at worst corrupt (and why did the ref go along with it for that matter, but putting that aside...)? Not even VAR can fix the mistake at that point, because play has already stopped and there's pretty much no way to rewind it in a way that gives Bayern (in yesterday's case) back the advantage they had...

Yeah, if you're checking every goal for offside with VAR I don't see how you do away with the late flag policy. Unless you think offside decisions can only ever be incorrect when the assistant doesn't flag and should have, and never the reverse.

I think we are mostly completely on the same page barring the fact that I think late flags are a good idea and you don't. Outside of that the officials just got it so wrong yesterday. I am inclined to think it's just complete incompetence (I think that's honestly the case across all the terrible decisions we've seen this year) but it's so bad that you can't blame people for questioning the integrity.

Essentially, yes, although it's less that I think it's not a good idea and more that I think it can get annoying in very obvious cases. As long as VAR is here there's really no other way to do it (as monkman5000 mentioned), since it can't correct mistaken early flags like yesterday's if play has already stopped and any chance or momentum is gone

To be honest, I'd love Mpappe's stint in Real Madrid (if that actually happens) to be trophy-less, as I really don't rate him that much...
Also, Vini Jr playing second fiddle to Mpappe, that will be funny to watch.

Not rating Mbappe is definitely a take.
