I always go with being cheap. Snipe everything and run away. Bravely run away away. Brave, brave, brave, brave Sir Robyn.

This Twitter thread is a really good summary of tips for anyone struggling with the difficulty and/or new to Souls games: Oh I hate the git gudders. I've always been a cheap bastard in Souls games. Summon help, snipe through a fog door, anything to win. The game gives you the tools for a reason. It's all about having fun, innit

Totally. Sure, the games are difficult, but you set your own difficulty with the weapons and items you use. I personally prefer to avoid summoning NPCs and other players because I like the challenge that provides (I have used the wolves a couple of times in this), but I don't think you can really complain about people using the tools that the game provides.

If you can figure a way to toggle quickly between bow and sword. Still struggling with this. But I bloody love chopping people down from Torrent, and the Unsheathe ability is very satisfying when timed correctly. Unsheathe ability you say? Can you actually switch weapons while on Torrent? With bow and sword, I have the bow equipped in my left hand and just toggle using the left button. Two-hand your Uchi-thingymabob and it'll become available.
You can switch. You can even start punching from the horse by accidentally deselecting your weapon during combat. Ask me how I knowβ¦

I'm using my spirit chums all the time. The warhawk is my current bestie. I love him. He's +2 now and is a right annoying bastard to whatever I'm fighting. Granted, he's so big he quite often gets between me and the camera, but I love him. I have got some hefty ones, including a headless chap / chapess but I don't have enough FP to use them . But yeah. It's fair enough for anyone wanting to solo everything, and spirit chums aside, I'm not wanting to summon for the main bosses, purely because it's how I'd rather do it. If I hit a roadblock though, I'm summoning. The game gives you tools to circumvent the harder aspects. It's part of the design, so use them. I'm never going to be pure awesome, so I'm not above it. Hell, I still snipe Manus from above the boss area rather than fight him directly. I don't care.
Although I was quite chuffed with my Godric fight:

To be honest, I've never been a massive fan of boss fights in souls games. For me its all about the exploration, finding new things, trying new builds etc. The bosses have always been more of inconvenience and stop my momentum. I have really limited gaming time right now so if I find myself stuck on a boss, I'll definitely be summoning some help so I can carry on with the stuff I really enjoy about the game.
Also, any enemies I can take out with a bow before encountering, you better believe will be taken down by the bow. And the wolves summons come out without hesitation when needed.
Just play the game however you enjoy it really.

I don't see the two things as exclusive. Getting good is using the tools provided. It doesn't matter how you go about doing it, beating it is beating it. I don't like to summon, personally, as I like the challenge of the games solo but different builds and playstyles are all part of it.

Indeed, and actually, it's not always easier fighting a boss with summons anyway, seeing as how they can still flatten you in a few hits, and their defences go through the roof the more you have.

Yeah, I always feel bad when I get summoned and then die really quick, knowing that the boss has more health cos of the extra summons. Um, sorry about that π

Friend of mine's been on the Series S version for 20 hours this weekend.
Turned on his machine today and he's getting the 'Failed To Load Save Data' error and can't seem to work it after restarting the game and console.
Anyone else had trouble with this (and know a potential solution)?

I did a bit of level grinding by killing the big giant monster at Gatefront over and over, was 1000 runes a time.

Theres always options available to you. Was banging my head against the Tree Sentinel for an hour yesterday when I realised that, I hadn't upgraded my sword in a while. I hadn't crafted the meals to heal Torrent during the fight. I dont use my magic during the fight so I'll just allocate the 2 magic flasks I had to give me 2 additional healing flasks instead. And I was able to do it. Failing that I could have just gone anywhere else and come back to it later.

Iβm playing offline but thereβs still messages and bloodstains everywhere. I even got invaded. What am I doing wrong? There are NPC invaders triggered by certain areas, i.e. not PVP Invaders.

Two is pretty decent if you both know what you're doing. One hammering spells and then you go in for big damage with a sword.

It's a regional holiday today where I am, so got some stuff out the way this morning/early afternoon and now fired this up. The plan for the rest of today: Elden Ring, beer, pizza, in that order.

I'll always remember someone telling me I was too overlevelled when I got to Blightown first time around. I said it's cause I've been using the souls of a fallen soldier or warrior items and levelling up with them. I was made to feel bad by doing that supposedly, like I was cheating the game. Tell the devs that , they put those items there!

Also arrekz has done a video on a good rune grinding spot. You have to be a bit careful as if you are low level they will one shot you but you can backstab them and follow up with one hit and they die if you have an ok weapon. 1000 runes a kill and they are near a bonfire so you can reset at will.

See Stamina (and apologies if this has been covered), but am I right in saying it doesn't deplete in the open world, but any time combat is instigated (and you can't use your map / craft etc), it does? As well as in areas that you pass a blue barrier and are forced off Torrent? Keep getting confused as to why is sometimes goes down and other times it doesn't.

Yeah this, once you're in combat you lose your infinite sprinting and stamina gets depleted.

Form my experience so far, everything you said here adds up wunty. I guess they wanted people to be able to get about the openworld quickly, but combat carries the extra burden of stamina management.

This is the best game ever. I canβt believe itβs real, itβs all I ever wanted from life. I'm the same man. Honestly. At 40 years old I feel a bit ridiculous to be gushing so much over a video game, but it is hands down the best game I have ever played.
Also. How fucking cool is that title music when it kicks in.
This. It's fucking outstanding. I would post more in this thread but I'm too busy playing, or thinking about it.

Bloody hell, I've just entered some sort of warp gate near third Mariska church Ruins, by the small river/pond and I've ended up in a far north westerly area called Greyroll's Dragonbarrow, right outside a 'Bestial Sanctum'. There's a huge fucker with wings down some steps from here, but I've warped in behind him so have run into the sanctum and there's a site of grace here.

Rodderz Did you speak to big boi in the building? I think it's something to do with a covenant but I'm not sure. One of the guys at Roundtable Hold actually directed me to him a while ago and I had some dialogue with him. He wants me to bring him shit. Can't remember what though. /overwhelmed
