Right. This is tough, but I VERY much recommend people do the fog door at the stranded graveyard. It needs two keys, but the item you get is worth it.
Just, erm, be prepared to die a few times.

I've just used two keys to open the fog gate at the very start of the game at the stranded graveyard. Ummm. Hah, I did this too. Fun, isn't it! I got to the end, but the twat in there got me so I've got to do it all again! Cheers for the advice on Ashes guys too.

Very intriguing! Is it an item usable by all builds wunty? Nope. And speaking of nope, I noped the hell out of Ceilid earlier tonight. Not going back until I'm thoroughly levelled up. Ditto for the Gael mines boss. EDIT: Actually it depends which item wunty was referring to.

What is the item? Can someone say? If I can't use it there's not much point

Ok, 2nd phase Margaret tips please. I'm a sword/shield guy. First phase I just wait for him to rush me with a heavy attack, roll then chop 2 or 3 times, dodge out of way. Second phase, he is super aggressive - I am struggling to dodge and there aren't really any gaps to whack him a few times.

I got past Magrit using a jelly fish summon. Save the summon(s) for his second phase and keep letting his aggro switch between the summon and you.

I had the same issue, ended up relying on a couple of good (player) summons who could last the whole fight and distract him long enough for me to back off and heal in phase 2

It's his fucking hammer jump attack. I can't dodge it at all. Seems to have a huge blast area and then I'm staggered so badly he basically swipes me and I'm done.

There is an item very specific to Margit that appears can help in that fight, sold by a certain squatting merchant... I found this after I'd beaten Margit though 😅.

Also, found some mines. Thought that'd be easy and maybe get some materials.
Nope, miners are tough as fuck too!
I need to concentrate on souls and levelling

It was a lot better once I figured out you can actually sprint in this game xD

Related note - how much are these games about just levelling up to get through the bosses? I was always under the impression its less about that and more about gitgud. With Hollow Knight I sucked at the bosses for the first 10 hours or so and then levelled up, came back and some were a doddle, plus I guess I'd learned the game more. I'm level 19... should I be able to smash this honky?

I think most people are around mid-twenties level for Margit, with a +2/+3 weapon.
Summons help a lot, either NPC or player summons. I did him with the 2 Fanged Imp ash summons and the NPC sorcerer

Pre-parent me definitely would have spending the whole weekend on this. Given my play rate though I reckon this will last me a year before I complete it for the first time.
My main tasks now I think are to explore around the opening area a little bit, find a map for mistwood, kill a bear, and maybe get through the castle gate. Oh and find a talisman or whatever it is that allows me to cast spells.

PS: what's a +2/+3 weapon...? Upgrade your preferred weapon at the smithing table near the first merchant you meet in the little church.

PS: what's a +2/+3 weapon...? Level up your weapon at the first church you probably found with the merchant. There you can make it up to +3. Boosts damage etc. Costs runes and an upgrade item you have probably found several times.

I did him with the 2 Fanged Imp ash summons and the NPC sorcerer Yep, Russell was level 14 with a +1 staff and I summoned that npc helper at the fog gate, until he got squished just over halfway though, but definitely very helpful! I'd imagine those spirit summons would be rather handy too. Speaking of which I need to find that soldier summon I've seen people mention, I've got wolves and jellyfish so far. Fanged imps sound sweet too!

PS: what's a +2/+3 weapon...? Upgraded weapon. At the church of Elleh grace site, there's a blacksmiths anvil. Use that, along with some smithing stones to upgrade your weapon. +1 means it's been upgraded once, +2 is twice, etc. Also, if its any consolation, I'm in the same boat as you, getting kicked in the face repeatedly by everything I'm looking forward to getting a bit stronger and better and then these fuckers are getting it!

I had no idea what the ash summons even were at that point but I'm glad I went with them as they are awesome. Mainly cos they inflict bleed, I used the flail for the Margit fight and we must've procced bleed on him twice which is a massive chunk of his health gone. I have the jellyfish, wolves, a noble sorcerer, and 5 noblemen summons also. Really handy and I use them all the time.
