Also, those red npc phantoms in dungeons are kicking my arse too.
I'm half tempted to go full on str and start whacking fuck out of things instead of stealthy dex

Thought this'd be a chonky size given it's scale, and was thinking about going disc, but only 38GB on the PS4 ?
That's fine. Race is on to download it for Tues, back to work Wed.
(should've paid more attention and preorderdownloaded doh)

So who's gone full magic? Is it as o.p. as the beta?
I was in a dungeon this morning and fighting these huge things that had very high physical resistance but when a magic trap hit them they got wrecked.

I started off as astrologer, so reasonably even in terms of strength and intelligence - but the latter is pulling ahead now and my soul arrow (glimstone pebble?) is really pretty damn powerful.
Now on to get the second boss - Mr Limbs - having spent last night post-Margit lost in the castle (which was pretty damn awesome).

Thoe warp gate things are dangerous - I don't know who Black Blade Kindred is, but I know I shouldn't be anywhere near him yet!

I'm now being a summon for margit as he's so much fun. Guess this blows my no summoning rule. Anyone want a summon, hit me up! I'll need this soon I think. I'm level 10 with a +1 weapon so I'll need help. He's already flung me around the map twice I ended up taking him on at 25 with a +4. Don't rush trying to kill him as Stormviel is no picnic. You're better off exploring and doing most of Limgrave first tbh.

Ha. Found the horrible thing in the castle that a young lady in a shack told me about. Thanks From. Not freaky at all.
I love how these games constantly give you "what the fuck is that" moments.

I do feel underpowered for sure at the moment

I was in a dungeon this morning and fighting these huge things that had very high physical resistance but when a magic trap hit them they got wrecked. It's totally OP against the rank and file enemies, as long as you have room to manoeuvre, but is a bit problematic against bosses - or rather my low health is. I'm still on the starting 9 points of vigour so a complete glass cannon - two hits from a boss will kill me. Mr Handy was a complete nightmare, I've just gotten past him. I need to take his souls and pump health and maybe endurance a little bit.
Also, it is an incredibly long time before you find another melee weapon you can use with your starting stats.
Edit: and the one sorceror I've found doesn't even sell spells! Just those manky Art of War things. Still stuck with the starting spells, which are very good for basic offence in fairness.

I found someone that sold spells. I can't remember where the hell it was though. And while they were useful, I couldn't afford them anyway!

It might have been that round table guy but his stuff requires more Faith than I've got! ryanclayton You should def be able to summon the jellyfish there, as I did it. Maybe you don't have enough Mana as he takes quite a lot I think?

I don’t even know how to level yet I’m just twatting about fighting crabs and gathering flowers. I did get teleported to somewhere that was basically like one of those fever dreams you have when you’ve got a temperature with poison shit and worm shit and gas cloud shit. Long time before I got back but the starter area feels comparatively lovely now.

Rough guide: do I stop going anywhere but the obvious way and head to the signposted stuff at the start in order to meet useful NPC’s for levelling, etc?

I’ve never really tried magic in these games as it seems like a bit of a ball ache. Is there a way to get mana regen, or are you always limited on how many spells you can cast before you have to hit a bonfire?

Just beat (early game miniboss) Tree Sentinel after about 5 million deaths. That guy is ridiculous. Am literally shaking! The Fanged Imp summons did the business, especially after I get the DEX to use the flail so we were all inflicting bleed. Level 24, +2 flail, on to the castle now I think

You have to juggle two flasks - health and mana, so there's lots of fat-fingered fun. Then, you have to do a risk reward type thing where you decide how many of each you take with you - for the last boss fight, I had only 2 health flasks because I needed 4 mana flasks to last the whole battle without running out. Given that I have no real health bar either, it's playing with fire. So yeah, you only have a fixed amount until you get to a bonfire. Demons was the best at this because you could refill on the fly.

What’s the deal with some enemies rolling over and spitting out orange cinders when attacked? Is it some kind of stagger state for non-humanoids? I’ve seen a few different enemies do it, always the more exotic looking ones, but not been able to do anything with it. That's a poise break; you need to position yourself in front and hit R1. I think some weapons don't work properly.

Bah ha ha, I've just been exploring Limgrave a bit more as I don't fancy heading deeper into that castle yet. I've found an area called Waypoint Ruins, just past a big bridge and have been attacked by a mini-boss called Pumpkinhead down in a lower area 😂. A player message before the fog gate suggested using magic, so that's right up my street! I also used a Jellyfish summon creature to help out, and it was indeed very helpful! Russell and his Jellyfish, what a combination. God I love the exploration in this, everywhere feels so mysterious and dangerous. I can't begin to imagine how big this game is going to be by the end, given this starting area alone.

Yeah, do the signposted stuff first for sure, there's not a lot of it. Basically hang around that wee chapel for a bit, including one visit at nighttime, and you're good. The whole area to the south is very suited to low-level characters, if you want to explore off the beaten path after that.

Agree with going around the first area a fair bit before Margit. I tried last night a bit underpowered and a bit tipsy but had a good search around the first area this morning. So much to explore and now have a better weapon and some new spells.
