I've just been running around cluelessly trying different classes and opening anything on horseback.
Fave classes so far, Samurai and Astrologer.
I'll choose one to stick with tomorrow.

Relationship stuff has made me stop playing since about 18:00 and won't get chance again until Monday morning. :/ You've already stuck around 20 hours in so don't be too downhearted. I usually do that in a month lol. |

Okay the performance issues have ended my fun for now. I keep getting 1-2 seconds of like 1fps follow by the game going into fast-forwards to catch up, and I get it most often when shit is getting real. I had a boss down to 20% when it decide to hit me with it and I couldn't raise my shield or dodge roll so RIP. It's like I'm playing some kind of 1990s FPS online with mostly good ping but terrible ping spikes.
I've followed all the (contradictory) advice on fixing it. None of it did a damn thing except Windowed mode which made it far more frequent and severe (rather than fixing it). So I guess now we wait for FROM to decide to fix the PC port. Sucks because it's great otherwise and I was beginning to get the boss pattern down (I know if you can get him to 20% once you can do it again, but the weird lag/stutter thing has killed me an awful lot of times now - it's literally impossible to fight the guy near the invader stuff because it always without fail lags me out during that fight).
Feeling jealous of PS5/Xbox Series X users right now!

Dark Souls OG, my sorcerer was stacked full of spells but only one mattered... Transmog. Minding my own business, plugging away in the world I was INVADED. Spotting the lovely selection of pots next to me, I quickly transformed into a circa 300 bds vase. The phantom hunted down their prey, searching hither and thither but to no avail. The fine pottery watched as the phantom passed, not knowing the fate that awaited them. Quickly, as the phantom passed through a door way, I transmogged out and backstabbed the invading fool....Muhahaha! Man, this game! |

Right - so Amazon finally got it into my hands at 9pm. Sort of regret taking the day off to play it now.
I made it to Margit the Fell Wotsit and he’s owned me so so convincingly I’d better come back to it later. The only reason I made it past the troll at the pass is because I cheesed it past everyone. It was a classic “is this what I’m supposed to be doing?” moment.
I went with samurai as my starter and think I may have hobbled myself somewhat. Sure could use some magics instead of a bow.

I’ve been basically too scared to fight anything except birds and livestock since I reached the open world, and human-sized guys on their own I can sneakstab. Now that I’ve cashed in a level-up though I might attack that treebeard zombie thing that’s walking around near the beach. I’ve seen there’s a second one backed up by archers on the critical path. Presumably I will never get past that point.

All in all that was a shit load of hours. I normally do this in a week, not a day, but good lord... This is phenomenal. Its so familiar but just so damn good.
The boy was on at me to co op a cave with him so I broke with convention and tried it. Nice and simple. Also, the consumables you need to use to summon can not only be bought, but crafted from just two flowers that are easily found in the wild. No humanity farming here, no sir! Also, the Ash summons REALLY help. So anyone put off by the difficulty associated with these games can know that between Co op and spirits, it's nowhere near as hard. Kind of. In the main. At first. Ish.

I’m staying out of this thread as I won’t play it for at least a year, as soon as the hype period is over I’ll buy it
But wow that Metacritic score and some of those reviews. It sounds like groundbreaking levels of awesomeness - hopefully those reviews are on the money because if they are you guys must be having the time of your lives

I’ve already set a multiplayer password of FG but it sounds like that means I’ll *only* match with FG-ers, and I’m not sure there’s enough of us (especially on Xbox). Maybe we should have a FontGeek “group” instead / as well? That’s for more-likely matching rather than exclusive. Bump I only beat Magrit because I removed the FG password and matched with randos |

When do I get my horse? Been playing for a good few hours now and not sure if I'm supposed to have it... Have I missed something? Also, where do I level up or is that later 😂? Presumably I will never get past that point. Birds might be off that list of acceptable things when you reach the first castle. Birds with knives for feet are bad enough, but exploding barrel carrying birds are terrifying/hilarious. Currently using a curved sword I got off an optional boss (Bloodhound) . Seems okay so far, but just got a couple of extra levels on it now. Looking forward to trying it out on a couple of foes that I need to seek revenge on. |

I'm steering clear of this thread for the most part - I somehow managed to go into the game completely blind, and I don't wish to be spoiled, even by you lovely lot - but after a mere 2.5 hours' worth of play-time this evening, I freakin' LOVE Elden Ring.
I hope every other Font Geek who's playing it is having as much fun as I am.

Anyone else having problems getting bloodstains to work? I see them everywhere but haven't had a single one work and show me how the player died. I press triangle and nothing happens
I miss seeing people fall of cliffs or get pancaked by an unseen enemy 😥

Finished for today. Beat a few optional bosses and Margit. Then went to explore and went way off course. Ended up going to some river bed place where the enemies were way over levelled. Homing arrows that took all but about 10hp off me. Managed to complete the necessary adjectives to enable the boss fight but I do so little damage so after I died, I got the hell out of there. Back to the castle tomorrow. Damn this is good.

Is anyone else feeling very, very squishy vs bosses? Im in med armour, 100% shield, 20 vit, but the second story boss wrecks me in a 2 hit combo
